Moatiallita, I take you haven't played MGS2 then :teehee:

I haven't no. I doubt that I'll be as excited as you as I wasn't too awed by the "philosophy" of MGS1 and have heard that 2 is worse, so I'm kinda awaiting a bull**** overload so that I can concentrate on the gameplay and the narrative, which is incidentially the high-points of MGS1

Wait what, MGS1 had philosophy?

No, only MGS2 of these is only philosophical work. Maybe first one throwed some typical japanese quasiphilosophy but no, it wasn't philosophical work per se.

Tale, can you tell

if Snake is really going to die? I'd guess so since Kojima wants to finally end his series

Well MGS1 had more philosophy about the self and the will to live (How to beat foxdie? Live! IIRC)

MGS2 was about the nature of society.

MGS3 was just a cook fest. Ocelot Meowing included.

I just wonder what would have happened if we had dealt with ADAM instead of EVA in MGS3.

Was that NGE reference or just some tidbit of MGS lore I've forgotten about? I can't remember anything about "ADAM" in MGS's :ermm:

You'll find MGS1 has something of an anti-deterministic message. It was specifically that your life and what you're capable of isn't pre-ordained. Mostly specific to genetics, but Foxdie was a broader application of it.

Yes.

Anti-Deterministic! Yay for us naturalistic libertarians (which reminds me about one particular topic...eeh nvm) :)

Japanese fiction in general tend to be quite deterministic in disguise of "fate". Sartrean existentialism and individualism is rare there compared to western world. Well, of course nature of worldviews are entirely different too

Ahh, I

thought so too. However one fellow said that Kojima denied that in interview - he didn't provide link though.

I haven't played MGS1 in years. Maybe I should get my old psone out of its box... To find all the stuff I missed back then :)

Why Konami has gone so against PC versions? MGS2 did have PC version but MGS3 didn't...

MGS2 PC was a DVD-Rom only game back when most still had CD options. Like MGS2 on the Xbox, it had relatively poor sales compared to the PS2 game. Which is why 3 was PS2 exclusive.

I've got 3 of them. Only 2 currently work, though.

Amazon put up the 80GB bundles with MGS4 for pre-order today. Shortly after, the site's main connection went down. https still works. Some claim that it's related. And they appear to have sold out within minutes.

edit: https is down, too.

when they first brief you for the Snake eater mission in MGS3 they mention that there are two spies within the soviets forces. ADAM and EVA. You're supposed to meet Adam at the factory like structure at the beginning but EVA shows up instead.

actually adam does show, Adam= Ocelot

In order to get Thursday off, I decided to stop slacking as much and catch up all my work.

Well, it's now 1:30 and I'm not going to have anything left to do today or tomorrow.

If its true Snake dies in the end, I hope he would at least reconcile with Meryl in the last instalment. Kind of disheartening to see in the trailer that when they both finally meet each other, their relationship suddenly gets demoted into stranger/acquaintance kind.

Yay! I gots it!

I played for two hours, got through the opening then got to meet Drebin!

New feature: Guns used by PMC's are Id Locked (this was used in previous metal gears to say "sorry you can only use what you find in boxes conveniently strewn about the facility/jungle). Except that this time, you get drebin! Drebin is a Black market arms merchant who can remove the ID locks from your guns and sell you guns. any gun you pick up thats a duplicate is instantly sold to him, there isn't dollars or yen or what have you, just credit that you can cash in for guns and services.

I must say, it's REALLY HARD to go from MGS3's control scheme (square and circle being attack and CQC buttons respectivly) to MGS4's (ready your knife with L1 and use R1 to attack with it or R2 to zap someone with it).

Huh, Just ran through the wiki for MGS4 and appearently Liquid Ocelot in japan is voiced by the guy who did Liquid snake, Meanwhile the american version has the origional Ocelot Voice. This was because the Ocelot Voice actor died in 06.

Also Jenny Hale is Naomi... forgotten that fact.

Holy!

Got to deep into act three tonight. Umm two things one includes massive spoilers but I just gotta mention it to get it out of my system, the other is that Sunny is the greatest character in the series.

ok spoilers...

Don't read this it spoils one of the greatest secrets of the series.

I'm not kidding!

Also I hate how they kinda tossed out the reason vamp is immortal in a throw away line.

WoW everyone who lived in MGS3 is a freaking Patriot... and here I thought that MGS3 had like nothing to do with the others. Also Sigint is Donald Anderson from MGS1.

I bought the game today. I wasn't planning on it, I just saw it in the store and I couldn't help myself, I couldn't not buy it. I'll borrow my nephews PS3 this weekend to play it.

Also Sigint is Donald Anderson from MGS1.

I'm pretty sure that's implied in MGS3 anyway.

I have a question concerning this series, which I've never played.

I've a PS2 and PS3. I know MGS2&3 are available for PS2. I also know MGS1 is considered a legendary game, but that one is not available for PS2.

So is it necessary to have played the original? And is there by any chance some sort of updated version? I seem to recall there was one for GameCube (with new camera options amongst other things), but seeing as I don't have one of those I'd need to play the original PS1 version (on my PS2). Which probably looks quite uitdated by now.

The PS2 is backwards compatible with PS1 games, so if you could find yourself a copy of MSG you'd be set, although, yes, it does look quite old now.

The Twin Snakes on Gamecube is MSG1 done with the MGS2s gameplay and engine. Personally I think it's inferior to the PS1 original.

I think you'd be missing out on quite a bit if you haven't played all the games in the series.

That is all.

So can any of you guys tell me how it hold up to the other games in the series? Preferably without spoilers.

Also Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, good Y/N? Wikipedia talks about alterations and that scares me.

4 is good. I can't give you a direct comparison saying it's better or worse than any others overall. Not until I finish and maybe replay again. I'll give these points.

Gameplay: Jumps around. Unlike MGS 1, 2, 3, and PO, 4 moves between game types quite a bit. You're going to spend a good 6 hours or so doing the game type that we see advertised by the game. Stealth on the battlefield. But then it begins to jump around to other gametypes. I'm only 14 hours in, so maybe we'll get back to it for a while before it's done.

Boss battles: Not as good as The End, but not bad. 3 out of 5 so far have been quite interesting.

Story: So far, it's doing a lot of what the gameplay is. It's introducing a lot of old characters and moving quickly. But the test of the stories in the series has always come from revelations closer to the end.

Edit: Definitely note what I said earlier, though. I played 14 hours straight in one day. My opinion of how quicly things go by might be a bit skewed.
