Pope
The Twin Snakes on Gamecube is MSG1 done with the MGS2s gameplay and engine. Personally I think it's inferior to the PS1 original. Why is that? I'd figure it wouldn't matter to anyone who hasn't played the original.
Tale
The Twin Snakes on Gamecube is MSG1 done with the MGS2s gameplay and engine. Personally I think it's inferior to the PS1 original. Why is that? I'd figure it wouldn't matter to anyone who hasn't played the original. I can't speak of Hell Kitty's specific reasons, but I can mention some common complaints. 1) It does not change significantly to account for first person aiming and tranquilizers. These changes alter how players interact with the game significantly. You can notice and attack enemies earlier and easier instead of previously just finding a way to sneak around. 2) Loss of accents. Though the accents were illogical and were retconned out, some people do prefer them. 3) Minor dialogue changes. Some people care, some don't. 4) "Out there" cutscenes, change Solid Snake from a reasonably down to earth action hero into Neo (surfing on missles). 5) Some complain that the voice actor re-recordings seem bored. Though it's something I never noticed. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Calax
I played 14 hours straight last night. I see your Chapter 3 and raise you completion of Chapter 4! 11:00 am to 1:00 am That is all. I would have finished chapter four last night if I hadn't taken an hour to figure out how to grab and hold in cqc on vamp ... God the melee controls got SCREWED! Tale
Pfft, that's what you get for not participating in the Metal Gear Online beta. The only move I didn't know how to do out of the box is the nutgrab. And I still haven't figured that out. I really like the new melee system. All of the controls, in fact. Tale
I just beat the game. 17:34 time, Solid Normal, rank of Eagle. Commentary: Good game. Story is as on par with the others. Though some of the resolutions and answered questions felt less than necessary, but they went the completionist route. Gameplay could have used more time in the stealth on a battlefield. In my 17:34, I think about 6 of them were done playing that. Maybe 7. My time could have been shorter, of course, I spent a lot of time with the bosses. I have a couple of complaints relative to previous editions, neither of which I wish to spoil. But I will say that you may or may not find the 'twist' to be less exciting than previous games. And it's felt like it was lacking something critical to the series. Everyone's a critic, I know. But it was still tons of fun. It's not my favorite MGS game, but it's still one of the best games I've played in a while. I'm about to play it through a second time if that's worth anything. More specific commentary can be found in the spoiler thread. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Calax
I think my least favorite part about the new CQC system is the fact you need to hit L3 in order to start using it with grabs and such (Vamp took forever because I kept throwing him rather than holding him) >.> I too have beaten the game. I clocked in about an hour behind Tale but got the same ranking. were all the other animals rankings in that last screen? (got pig, puma, cow, I think dog and.... I donno. If I saw the screen again I could point them out). I donno why but I ended liking the talker during the debriefing more than snake. I also didn't like how they played up the "Old" bit. It felt way overdone. I donno, I wish they had either kept snake young (him randomly hitting his back in when your trying to sneak around is annoying!) or had you swap characters to either another operative (Heck Meryl would have been better) after act three (which felt like the end of snake's usefulness). Also the fact the guy looks like he's in his seventies but able to work like Naked Snake or the Boss from MGS3 bugs me. Tranquing the bosses was fun (yeah... I tranqued ALL the B&B corp from the beginning of the fight to the end, Hardest was RAGE!) I did laugh at the Mantis "hardware" joke. Thats all I'm gonna say for now. otherwise I'll start doing more than hinting at spoilers... again. Edit: this occurred to me. I miss Adamska's personality. I liked his flamboyance and STYLE! over Liquids "RAWR BROTHER GENETICS RAWR WAR!" vibe. Edited June 14, 2008 by Calax Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Zoma
I read the spoilers for the ending and isn't quite happy with how some things are resolved, even if its being done cleanly. *Spoiler spoiler* About the conclusion of Meryl and Snake's relation is quite a WTF moment. Meryl marrying Johhny? I guess there's no longer the tribute of Meryl X Dave from Policenauts. The reunion left quite an unfulfilling taste for me. Thankfully, Raiden got a happy ending at least. Snake's ending. For him to be finally free and yet to live his last days alone. I do not consider such ending as a happy one. I find it amusing that its Otakon who takes care of him for his remaining days. Gives me a Yaoi vibe.
Diogo Ribeiro
I also suggest people get acquainted with Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MSX, which was also released as a freebie with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Much of what made the original MGS a memorable experience can also be found there, and it's interesting to find where MGS drew direct inspiration from. Tale
I think my least favorite part about the new CQC system is the fact you need to hit L3 in order to start using it with grabs and such There's 0 need to press L3 to do a grab. You just need to let go of the movement stick. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Diogo Ribeiro
The PS2 is backwards compatible with PS1 games, so if you could find yourself a copy of MSG you'd be set, although, yes, it does look quite old now. Personally I'd recommend the PC version of MGS. Cleaner graphics, higher resolutions and the full set of VR Missions that weren't available on the original PS MGS release. The Twin Snakes on Gamecube is MSG1 done with the MGS2s gameplay and engine. Personally I think it's inferior to the PS1 original. True, dat. Hell Kitty
I just completed the game. It was fab. Now I must go sleep. What titles did people get? I got: Eagle - High headshot count Hawk - For receiving lots of praise from fellow PMCs Hyena - High item collection Pig - High use of health items Crocodile - Merciless soldier, killed a whole lotta folks Panther - Rarely died, spotted frequently and killed untold number of enemies As you can probably tell I didn't play through very stealthily. Using a borrowed PS3 I was really just playing through for the story, though I enjoyed the gameplay immensely. Man, AP has a lot to live up to when it comes to delivering stealth and action...
