I'm actually pulling for a PC synthetic, but that's a long shot.

I think it would be very strange if there was NOT a synthetic human in the game. My money's on him/her being a potential party member too.

Get Smart had a Hymie (His father's name was Hymie!), PS:T had Nordom and Morte, Fallout 2 had Skynet, Anachronox had both an awesome robot and a ****ing planet!

It also remains to be seen whether or not the synthetic's going to be "known" ala Bishop, or a company plant ala Ash. If the latter, he'll have to be kept out of battle for the secret to be under wraps.

That probably depends on how combat is handled. One thing all Alien-themed products had in common was that getting close to one of them usually = butchery. So it doesn't really matter if you only find out when the poor sod is lying in pieces on the floor.

I suppose you're right in that a synthetic character won't have much to fear from a facehugger (ostensibly) but the combat problem presumes that characters will seldom have any key effect on the narrative, if they're so predisposed to biting it. That's the problem with permadeath, I guess.

Duh. But they were numerous and in numbers could take you down (especially without shield), or at the least cause you to wast health and shield on them when unprepared.

 

Man the whole game can be finished with the crowbar and a pistol.

 

It's a good way to make them still count, still be in the game, but not game-stoppingly so.

I'm with Pop, increasingly. Being a synth would have all kinds of interesting sub-levels, and allow for true Obsidian style head-fethery. Not to mention altering your OS, hacking yourself, getting hacked and so on. Plus it would allow for some neat meta mechanics, like you getting shipped places, and given inescapable objectives to fulfil.

Yeah, actually, making the main character a FORCED synthetic person would take care of the eternal problem of what the hell your character was doing in the 25 years BEFORE you took over his soul. Also, it would make the game very Deus Ex-y, and that's not a bad thing at all

On that note, PLEASE restrict romance plots to the mysterious and flirty stuff. Torment style or something. None of this BG2 "she whines, you have sex, she whines, she leaves you and you're left to bring up a child on your own. happily ever AFTAR." kind of crap.
