But it's a fair point in terms of mechs actually adding anything to a game as well as 'looking cool'. Given what JE said above though, he seems to be far more in the camp of 'western' mechs. That is, 'tanks with legs' (Battletech/Warhammer 40k titans) or powered armour (Starship Troopers/Aliens) then the generally Japanese approch of 'giant metal humans' (Gundam/Macross). However, given that any mech designs in an Aliens game will have to be directly lifted or based on existing designs, if those don't appeal to you then arguments against their designs are completely valid. However, in terms of gameplay it COULD go either way and we'd need more information in that department to make a judgement. So essentally what i'm saying is that I like mechs stomp stomp stomp bang splat boom scream hehehehehehhehehehe (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

January 17, 200818 yr I own Steel Battalion so I hope that makes my opinion on mechs clear. Hell. Yeah. Even if I do hope that Obsidian takes us on a hellish trip into the very depths of bleak isolation a la System Shock 2 and Aliens vs Predator, I don't mind if they instead stretch their developery legs and do what they want with the franchise. Personally, I would be disappointed if it turns out to be a Deus Ex/Bioshock-set-up with xenomorphs. I know that this is what the vocal majority here want(I wouldn't mind it either), but when there's so much latent potential for unique ideas, the setting being new to rpgs, I will hate it if Obsidian decides to take the oft-travelled road. Um, who says they can't use the System Shock 2 setup and build upon that? There's so much unique potential for innovation with the Aliens setting that I don't see why you wouldn't want something like System Shock 2 as a base, so you could spend more time refining the details of the RPG and implementing both the features unique to Obsidian and to the Aliens universe. No point reinventing the wheel. Although I suspect that reinventing the wheel is exactly what Obsidian will be doing due to some misplaced desire to be different. January 18, 200818 yr Author FASA folded the microsoft (which owned FASA interactive) shut them down, though the rights have been bought up by a new company that has a lot of the old FASA interactive guys, so a new mech game is most likely to be forthcoming. January 18, 200818 yr Hmmm... I was eager for a mech game, but I had to choose between Chromehounds and Armored Core 4... Chromehounds looked awesome but was mostly for Live (which I don't have) while AC4 looked awesome but seemed hard to play and rather depressing. I'd like something with Lost Planet's mechs, but more fleshed out. As in, AC4 customisation and simple controls. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
