Guest The Architect
Bwahah, England is out after losing 2-3 to Croatia. Oh, what a tragedy. But YES, WE'RE IN! :D 2-1 against Latvia. Don't celebrate too much. You're only there to make up the numbers, as per usual. Portugal is starting to look like Scolari's Brazil: plays like crap, barely qualifies, but still wins the competition (I hope). That's actually an interesting point. They weren't that good in the World Cup, except the only time they actually played well, against France, they lost. Anyway, I guess we lost tonight, so I got my 'wish'. I wonder what would happen if you said that in a pub full of fellow Pommy football fans.
Walsingham
Anyway, I guess we lost tonight, so I got my 'wish'. I wonder what would happen if you said that in a pub full of fellow Pommy football fans. I'd have to explain fast. As I say I'm sick of us just bimbling along without really doing well, hanging on by our fingernails. I'm hoping that this will spur a complete reqork of our approach to football. If I were in teh pub I'd bang on about patriotism, a-holes at the FA, and how the fans are always getting shafted for profit. hopefully insteda of me getting beaten up we'd go straight out and burn down FA headquarters. Tigranes
McClaren, it seems, has already been sacked, and the upcoming press conference is only a formality. I agree that he needs to go, but only because he hsould never have been picked in the first place. The FA never gives its managers the time, really. I saw the game and well.... I don't know why Robinson wasn't replaced a long time ago to bleed in the new keeper; and if you had to throw one in the depths, why not David James, experienced and on form, but a young and nervy Carson? Why play Barry, Gerrard AND Lampard? Why play a 4-5-1 when neither Joe Cole nor Shaun Wright Phillips are proven goalscorers, and why play Crouch if you don't have Beckham or Owen? I would have been apoplectic if the game remained 2-2, since the penalty was so soft it's probably better to sleep on than a feather bed. If the referee wasn't paid off at half time, I have no explanation for how he gave England fourty free kicks afterwards - I mean, surely you can't be that bad at your job? Well done to Croatia who played with composure and skill, and gave the viewers a good show. They've been unlucky to not get anywehre since WC98 and I hope they put on a show in the Euro. Brdavs
As I say I'm sick of us just bimbling along without really doing well, hanging on by our fingernails. Dare I say part of the problem... Looking from the outside I think The3Lions have been doing well lately, especially under Sven... But the atmosphere the press and the fans generate for the national side is little short of toxic it would seem heh... Huge expectations before every tournament, going all the way stuff, and then, inevitably, a national disaster and crucifixion when the team goes out, nomatter at what stage. There is no middle ground, it`s favorites and the best of the best, then instantly switched to biggest c*nts on the planet when the tables turn... Ok, going out at THIS stage IS a disaster and current gaffer is a joke but that`s besides the point heh... No wonder you have managers refusing to manage England and players apparently having brakedowns on the pitch when it counts... England has is it it`s football boots, by God it has it, it however does not have it "under the hat" so to speak. And no academy system revamp will change that (ok maybe a new keeper programme lol). Walsingham
I hope, btw, that I'm not giving the impression Croatia didn't do a top job to beat us. in fact it really proves my point. You can have al the sports physicians and money in the World. But if your heart's not in it, and if you're being undermined (see Tigranes) then you're asking to get beaten. "It wasn't lies. Hildegard
WE DID IT!!!!!!! England is out of the Euro!!!! Those English finally payed for their arrogance!!! Although that match didn't mean anything for us in terms of qualifications, I don't remember ever being so nervous and cheering for my national team!!! We played for ourselves and we won, we showed character!!! And again, what do the ever self-centered English do? They blame Mclaren and his tactics for the lost. Guess what?! You didn't loose because of Mclaren's incompetents, you lost because Croatia is a better team then England, because we played better and thus won, we deserved it. And England, when you put together everything they've displayed during the qualifications, just didn't deserve to qualify and I'm damn glad they didn't. And that Swedish bastard was so pro England, that penalty was a gift, he only started doing his job unbiased after 2-2 And what's with the so called great English supporters? 7000 Croats outspoke the entire Wembley for most of the game, and you could hear the English only at 2-2, guess they cheer only when the score is in their favor, lol. Hildegard
Woah! Jeebus! Willya calm down? I don't think I've seen such an impassioned rant. Did we really refuse to shake hands? That sounds rather odd to say the least. Anyway, I guess we lost tonight, so I got my 'wish'. Well I'm a passionate man, and quite frankly when it comes to football you're the last country on this planet I would root for. PS. Yeah, they really did. Gorgon
I think you were on to something earlier Walsh, England has somehow managed to retain the expectations of a word cup winner for decades on end, despite very meagre international championship results, every single time everyone was convinced that now surely is the time. National teams are not the big clubs, they can afford the long perspective. No need to sack a coach for missing a qualifier if doing so negates any chance of his long term plans paying off. The England team demands success and keeps starting over from scratch. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all. SteveThaiBinh
Scotland deserved to qualify, England didn't. Next year is going to be grim. I remember the (English) commentary from the 1994 World Cup (England didn't qualify for that either): "Well, (insert name of foreign player) is doing reasonably well here, but when you think of what the likes of a (insert name of English player) or a (insert name of other English player) would have made of that chance, it really is so disappointing for the fans..." Of course, said English players would have made a dog's dinner of any chance, as I think they showed last night. Maybe they could give all the commentators the month off and just broadcast each match with funeral music in the background. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now."
