Nick_i_am
That said, some of the Imperial Guard forces are ridiculously awesome. And pitting them against Tyranids...sublime. Should they go for a more Ground Control-alike perspective, DoW 2'd be godly. Ground Control (and its mutant sequal) are two of my favorate RTSs, if only for breaking the mold while being a lot of fun. So yes, i'd agree with this statement. It's quite open. The wiki makes it sound like undivided is basically just an excuse to mix and match however you feel like. Gorth
I don't know about this business with the Undivided. What I do know is that Slaanesh and Khorne don't get on on an absolutely fundamental better than atomic level. Likewise Nurge and Tzeentch. Chaos undivided might be some approach focussing on the pure anti-order/life components, but... I dunno. I have to say I always wondred who invented the canon on thsi subject. It's quite terrifying. In case you haven't, try and see if you can find the original chaos rule books in one of those old second hand book stores. "Slaves to Darkness" deals with the aspects of Khorne and Slaanesh, whereas "The Lost and the Damned" deals with the other two opposites Nurgle and Tzeentch. Both are hefty 100+ page hard cover books with plenty of background fluff, from the nature of the warp (which is not unlike the planescape universe where belief can dictate matter) to the creation of the human emperor and why he was created. The Necron rulebook also provides a lot of good background material as to why and how the chaos gods were created in the struggle between the C'than/Necrontyr and "The Old Ones" Edit: Sloppy spelling “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Musopticon?
There's also this online archive source for most of the books that are out of print. I can't remember the name for the life of me though. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Zoma
For some reason, DoW felt over-milked to me after the announcement of ANOTHER expansion. I thought the time would be ripe to make a proper sequel to DoW instead of add-on to what it seems, an inferior engine compared to CoH.

I must confess that I consider them pretty much genius, since they tie together so much stuff from all over, by either research or presience. Indeed, they presage many of the more interesting bits of system theory concerning order and chaos by several years. "It wasn't lies. Jinx
For some reason, DoW felt over-milked to me after the announcement of ANOTHER expansion. I thought the time would be ripe to make a proper sequel to DoW instead of add-on to what it seems, an inferior engine compared to CoH. Dawn of War is in a fairly unique position as rts games go though. One of dow's biggest strengths I think (Not to belittle all the other great things about the dow games) is the variety of factions the players can choose from and more importantly play against online. Hitting the reset button on the franchise puts it back in line with all the other rts games out there and personally I think makes it a little dull, even with a better engine. I think for the moment dow really doesn't need to be replaced with a better model. Soulstorm may in some ways make it stronger than the new engine games. Calax
well if Relic is working on DOW 2 (apparently Soulstorm is being developed by another THQ dev house The guys who did titan quest I believe) then we might see several races being implemented from the very start as compared to DOW which only had the four. Four is still quite a few especially given that they had very different ways of teching up. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off. Tale
And since it is Iron Lore, Tyranids can be included! Because it means Relic wouldn't be including them! "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Nick_i_am
I was going to throw in a comment about them just being Zerg ripoffs anyway, but i'd like to think I wouldn't stoop that low. haha, who am I kidding On the subject though, Jinx is right, having such a number of genuinely unique races does make for an interesting game. The problem is that not all the races are really that balanced (as the leaderboards show, when last I looked) and as such, the games dynamic can lose focus that it would retain with a smaller number of races. It's a huge improvement over vanilla DoW, cirtainly, and I congratulate Relic for reinventing the game several times over it's history to keep things fresh and fun. But while the unit balancing has been vastly improved, a number of the races could still do with a decent amount of tweaking, esspesally when it's so easy to split races into infantry/heavy infantry and the only real counter to the Necrons is rushing their butts off. Noceur
Interesting! I'd love to see Tyranids actually, just because of the nostalgia of blasting 'em. (Although there's a mod for that, but I'd prefer to do it on an RTS scale). While I'd like to see a DoW 2, I think the DoW 1 engine is good enough for another expansion. I do hope the SP campaign will be something sufficently new though. EDIT: Is there any reason why one of the new races shouldn't be Dark Eldars? EDIT: Haha, sorry... just realized that the Dark Eldars are confirmed. Edited October 16, 2007 by Noceur
Walsingham
as a IG lover. I cry at DOW Up the guards! I agree it's very hard to get the guard to work well. Largely because they can't dig in IMO. Soft infantry have a very simple set of imperatives 1. Move 2. Shoot anything unfriendly at arrival location 3. Dig hole, and climb into it. 4. Make hole more roomy, add top-cover 5. Brew tea. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. Tale
Good news for you PSP owners. Not Soulstorm related, but Squad Command has a demo released. http://www.thq-games.com/uk/game/demos/229...d&per_page= This game will be coming out for PSP and DS. If it turns out good, I'll probably get the PSP version. Sadly, I doubt there will be a demo for the DS one. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater." Musopticon?
Uh-huh. Unfortunately, I might have to wait until it gets cheaper, since at the moment it doesn't really hype me at all and the omeny could be used better. Like into Sins of a Solar Empire, for instance. When/if someone happens by this thread(Nick, Llyr?) who have something good to tell about the expansion, like a preview of their own experience with it, I might change my mind though. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears.
