Hurlshort Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Yeah, we have another spoiler thread, and I'd rather play through without. I'm about 3 hours in, and it's awesome so far.
Meshugger Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Lulz, this was posted by a disgruntled fan at the 2k-boards, in response to the whole DRM/rootkit-fiasco that surrounds the PC-version. Is man not entitled to the game he buys?NO, says the man at SecuRom. It belongs to 2K. NO, says the man at 2K. It belongs to us. NO, says the man at Microsoft. It belongs to our license purchasers. I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...piracy! Where the gamer would not be censored, where the PC owner would not be bound by petty encryption, where the buyer would not be constrained by corporate greed. And with the downloading of your torrents, piracy could become your salvation. "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy

Musopticon? Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I came back from my uni to do a final check on things home before moving on the great academic beyond. And what do I find? My friend has bought Bioshock. Guess what I'm doing the next 10 hours? kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds

Hurlshort Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Wow, that figurine is way more impressive than I was expecting. I figured it might be 2 or 3 inches, but that thing could do some damage. Um, I'm refering to the Big Daddy. Err...

samm Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 nice, mkreku's got a silver cube People seem very excited about bioshock currently. I think I'll wait a year or two and get it from the bargain bin (not being a shooter-fan at all)... Citizen of a country with a racist, hypocritical majority
mkreku Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Something that worries me about Bioshock is the online activation function. I don't care about it right now (seeing as it poses no problem), but what happens if I want to install and play the game in five years time and the damn activation server is long gone? Will this game only be playable as long as 2K thinks they're still making money off of it? Theoretically, they could say (after selling 2 million copies and the sales have come to a complete halt): "Close the servers, we're not making any more money!" and we'd all be screwed. Well, all PC owners at least. Xbox 360 owners could still play and laugh at us.. I don't like this new method of stopping piracy. It feels like it just got worse for me, who actually bought the damn game. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Tale Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 (edited) I think that's a good point. At least with Steam an update can be applied in such an event and I would expect them to do so. With a disc, it's built into the installer program on the disc. You can't install if you can't contact the key server and you can't update a CD. Now I don't see them shutting down the server intentionally. It's not a bandwidth intensive server. But if they just go bankrupt and close their doors it would be an issue. Perhaps they could release a seperate installer that can be run off the hard drive to install from the disc? Pidesco Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I'd like to point out that five years from now, we will probably(definitely) have game hacks that will allow you to play without online activation. It's almost like 2k supports piracy or something. And anyway, things are worse than you think. The DVD you, mkreku, and everyone else who has already bought the game, isn't actually the full game. The internet "activation" bit is actually a download of a bunch of game critical files, including the main executable. Yay. Tale Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Call me crazy, but in the previews weren't the tattoos on the arms your EVE gauge or something? It's odd because they look like they could perfectly represent 3 bubble gauge of some sort and they don't appear in the introductory pre-render. Probably shouldn't say more than that. In the pre-rendered introduction, although he has similar clothing and uses plasmids in a way that we don't see normal splicers ,in game, do- he does end up with a drill through his stomach. Opening up the possibility he is just a splicer.. Alternatively they just comissioned/made the scene before they had a final look for the protagonist. And the drill through the stomach can be resolved due to the fact that death is basically a non-issue in the game. Edited August 24, 2007 by Zero
