elwaysdad
Ok, I've played both Kotor and Kotor 2 all the way through several times, so this may seem like a dumb question, but it's been making me scratch my head and go "hmmmm" for sometime. As I am leveling up my main character in either Kotor or Kotor 2, the thought occured to me, am I wasting level up options in the 'Feats' catagory over the long haul by choosing 'Melee Weapons' as an option when leveling up? In other words, does it actually contribute to my character's fighting ability once he or she gets their greedy little hands on a lightsaber? I know 'Melee Weapons' in the 'Feats' catagory is useful at first, when the character is actually using a melee weapon such as a vibrosword, but I'm just a little foggy as to where that issue lies with a lightsaber. Is a lightsaber considered a melee weapon or is it a whole other category, and if it is, does 'Melee Weapons' level up apply to it? If it really doesn't contribute to a lightsaber welding character in the long run (or does it?), wouldn't I be better off using the 'Feats' in some other category such as "Conditioning" or "Two Weapon Fighting" for example, and just suffer through with mediocre melee fighting ability until my character gets a lightsaber? Nero
Yes in the game it is, melee close combat it's not a projectile weapon now is it The force helps me poop better, and use lightsabers to cut my food that then turns into poop.
LadyCrimson
I believe Weapon Feats/Melee Weapons applies to non-lightsabers only. So yes, I'd say you're better off choosing something like 2-weapon fighting or Toughness or whatever other Feat you eventually want to max out, instead of Melee. I never put points into Melee Weapons and it was never a struggle in the early spots. *shrug* “Things are as they are. Dam13n
You have a seperate slot called weapon focus/proficiency/specialisation lightsabers, I thought that would be a clue.... No, the melee upgrades do not affect lightsabers. You are better going with: dueling - single saber offensive two weapon fighting - saberstaff/2 lightsabers offensive jedi defense - improves deflection (defensive) or if high dex, low str - finesse lightsabers. I generally only level up lightsaber and blaster pistol proficiencies, as they are what my character uses. Plus two weapon fighting and jedi defense for a good all rounder. Laterz... vaxen83
If you are thinking of taking lightsaber feats for your character, most of them can be accessed as a Guardian with a Weapon master/Sith marauder class. Weapon masters and Marauders get additional lightsaber feats like increased hit rate with using double bladed weapons or double single lightsaber fighting, apart from being able to select more feats than other classes. Jedi defence feats also increase ability of character to deflect blaster bolts with saber weapon. Easier to choose feats for lightsaber proficiency. Weapon masters and Marauders get additional proficiency feats for such. Edited December 21, 2006 by vaxen83 Deep from within... Victims live a life of fantasy. Darth Mortis
To answer the question clearly Lightsabres are NOT considered Melee weapons like vibroswords are. You can use flurry, power attack and critical strike feats with a lightsabre, but adding to the melee weapon skill, or picking melee finesse will have no effect on how well you use a lightsabre. There are two seperate feats-lightsabre finesse and lightsabre skill that take there place with sabres only. Hope that answers the question. Sturm
Lightsabers are their own category, when you go to a workbench and you have the options, Armour, Ranged, Lightsaber and Melee, you dont look under melee to upgrade your lightsaber Oh and when you have feat options, you have Finese: Melee, Finese: Lightsaber, I think thats the skill, but the point is, you dont choose melee if you wana be pr0 with lightsaber, yet again

elwaysdad
My original question stems from the fact if you've played Kotor 2 as a Jedi Weapon Master you may have noticed as you level up that you get automatic upgrades such as "Increased Melee Damage". Now if that is strictly for a melee type weapon (non-lightsaber) I don't see the need as by this time one should have acquired at least one lightsaber (except maybe if you go into the Mandalorian Battle Circle). Other than that it's a waste if that is only what it's for. Edited January 15, 2007 by elwaysdad

It isn't quite as daft as it sounds since some people like to use a vibrosword in the off hand as energy shields rarely stop blows from swords.
