some NWN2 companions

You first need to collect all the files, print all the labels, then mass burn all the CDs, then get them to the packaging facility so they can be sent with the right magazine. It is a long convoluted process.

Not sure why this would take any longer than a game going Gold, and then shipping within a month.

Especially considering the inherent delays that exist with a print magazine anyways.

Perhaps not 2-4 months, but going through the bureaucratic process in even a magazine publishing outfit can take a surprising amount of time especially with mass production, which involves well-timed collaboration with printers and whatnot. Especially if the company isn't going to spend too much on what is really an idiot-job.

Gnomes are unpopular and annoying, true. But is that because they've been stereotyped, or because being born a gnome (and the subject of universal ridicule) would warp anyone just a tad?

Having scripted companions is not a deal-breaker; in fact I prefer it over IWD-style roll-your-own-party. I believe the IWD story suffered for it. Character would have added needed dimension; and realistically, one can't always pick the folks one has available to complete a task, or completely control the direction when other sentients are involved. Don't forget that most of the memorable companions and villains in any past game have been created and forced on you--what matters is how they're written.

So bring on your gnome. Could be interesting.
