August 25, 200619 yr So basically Xbox can do DX10 graphics but will lag more than real DX10. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd guess more a long the lines of "faking" it. Such as certain games using fake HDR... looks nice, but it's just not the same.
August 25, 200619 yr This is why I thought we should wait. It wouldn't matter, Epiphany, even if you were right. It's simply unseemly to gloat in the first place and it's silly to gloat before the match is over. I don't say that with any animosity. Imagine how much worse it would be if I had not edited your original comments? You'd have a whole year of crow on which to dine. Please, folks, be adult and reasonable about these consoles. Don't go vendetta on each other over a gaming rig. August 25, 200619 yr Poor Epiphany. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
August 25, 200619 yr Uhm.. A 286 could do DirectX10 with the right emulation software. That still doesn't mean its hardware supports DirectX10. Same with the Xbox 360, it will have to emulate some parts of the DirextX10 specifications. It will be slower, but it will still have the same functionality (probably). August 25, 200619 yr A 286 will spontaneously combust and melt to goo if it tries to emulate DX10. Current 3DMark
August 25, 200619 yr I'm actually not sure it could emulate it properly, given the architecture of the chip. I suppose anything is possible. Edited August 25, 200619 yr by alanschu
August 25, 200619 yr Yeah, and I could become a rational human being. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was actually being serious.
August 26, 200619 yr I don't see why the word rational was required in that preposterous statement. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
August 26, 200619 yr Yeah, and I could become a rational human being. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was actually being serious. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, okay.
August 26, 200619 yr Let's see if the Profit Man shows up to defend himself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He never does. Yesterday we reported on a rumor suggesting that ATI could make the Xbox360 Xenox graphics chip run DirectX 10. It was highly unlikely, and ATI han now cinfirmed that. A spokesperson from ATI says: OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
August 26, 200619 yr Let's see if the Profit Man shows up to defend himself. He never does. Yes, but one can always hope. August 26, 200619 yr Does anyone else get the tune for Elton John's Rocket Man whenever they see Profit Man? As for the emulation, I imagine it'd be a real bugger. The 286 is a 16-bit processor, so it'd probably have to find ways to split instructions. Depending on memory constraints, you might need an outside memory manager to deal with extra addressing.

August 26, 200619 yr Hmmmm...would the 286 even like multiple threads running at the same time? This emulator would have to be pretty intense (and even then still slow as hell).
August 26, 200619 yr An small LAN of 286s, multiplexed together! Does anyone else get the tune for Elton John's Rocket Man whenever they see Profit Man? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now I do. Actually, I did, but I didn't notice it as much until you mentioned it. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
