Movies You Have Seen Lately

You know what I loved about Glengarry Glen Ross? The language. I haven't seen the movie in a few years, but from what I remember isn't every other word 'Mother ****er' or '****sucker' in that show?

I watched Hustle & FLow again the other night. I don't care too much for rap, and even less for pimps, but this movie was great enough to surpass that.

You know it's hard out there for a pimp...

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Plot Outline: A petty thief (Downey) posing as an actor is brought to Los Angeles for an unlikely audition and finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation along with his high school dream girl (Monaghan) and a detective (Kilmer) who's been training him for his upcoming role...

Really funny. Black should direct more films. Entertaining, violent, the script's great and the chick, Monaghan, is pretty hot. Didn't Val Kilmer call this his second gayest film? 2005's Best.

I personally could not stand this flick, something about it just rubbed me wrong, plot twist here plot twist there, too many coincidences. Reminded me of another film from last year Crash. The actions good (especially the end) the actors do well, I don't know what it was I just wanted the ****ing movie to be finished so I could do something, anything else.

Blankman...

A movie that makes fun of a TV show from the sixties that pokes fun at a Comic book (well it was meant to be serious but anymore nobody can take it seriously)

the show being batman. It had Damon Wayans as a nerd-geek-eekcooties character in his twenties who invents stuff... among other things bulletproof underclothing.

Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition!

Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.

National Treasure

NicCage goodness!

Worst. Movie. Ever.

No, no not really.

Let's see.... Annoying, "funny" sidekick? Check. Freemason treasure? Check. Stupid plot twists that you guessed from the start? Check. Pro-USA patriotic POS? Check. Family-friendly plot so no one dies and no one gets hurt? Check. Sounds completely unoriginal and plain bad to me. "OMG I CANNOT LET TEH GREEDY TERRORISTS TAKE THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, IT IS A HOLY ARTIFACT AND TEH SOUL OF OUR NATION!!!1" If i ever have to watch another Nicolas Cage movie i'll poke my eyes out. Even Harvey Keitel and Sean Bean couldnt redeem the ****ty mess that movie is.

1. It's a family movie, no one's supposed to die, and I happen to like funny sidekicks, Freemason treasures, and plot twists that make me feel good about myself because I guessed them from the beginning of the movie. Oh, and there was a lot of violence in the movie. I mean, they were being held at gun point within 20 minutes of the opening credits.

2. Pro-USA? PRO-USA? NO WAY! Why would a movie about THE FOUNDING FREAKING FATHERS be pro-USA? Cause I would think it'd be about something like the role of Islamic women in society, or something.

3. "Sounds completely unoriginal and plain bad to me"- It was actually pretty original. I mean, since when are maps on the back of the Declaration of Independace?

What you like is what you like, thats something i cant and dont even want to change. Movies made in hollywood always have that SALUTE TEH FLAG-mentality. It was just a bit too obvious and banal in this one. And just because one plot element of the movie was original, it doesnt mean the whole movie was.

I wouldn't (generally) mention Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Crash in the same sentence. It was a comedy, part satire-part tribute, that was the point. Chandler novels as day titles, Downey's Narration, God, never mind, just forget about it. It was funny.

And yeah, Kor, you're right, part of the Mamet charm, I guess.

Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs)

Plot Summary: The setting is the never-ending war between the police and the traids of Hong Kong. Chan is a cop who's been assigned to undercover work inside the traids for so long that he's been able to rise through the ranks to a position of some authority. Lau, meanwhile, is a secret member of the triads who has infiltrated the police force with an equal level of success. As they feed their bosses information on the plans and counter-plans of the organizations they pretend to serve, they both begin to feel the stresses of their double lives as they become torn between the oppressive obligations they owe to their superiors and the growing camaraderie they share with the foot soldiers around them. As the two organizations become increasingly aware of the moles in their midsts, the race is on for Chan and Lau to try and get out of the game alive.

It's okay, just don't expect the second coming of the Film Messiah (Bunuel reborn? Wajda's next flick? Tony Jaa actually, you know, acting?). Marty'll do a decent re-make, though, honestly, I don't find his DiCaprio fixation|wee-wee craving all that rewarding, from a, uh, film-centred perspective, yeah.

Then why would you call it the "worst movie ever" in the first place? Why not just say "I really don't like that movie" or even "I think it's the worst movie ever?"

I'd agree with that, Crash was one of those films I couldn't get through, that's pretty rare, me pausing a movie and throwing away the DVD. Of course, we ain't talking about Cronenberg's car porn, which I just happen to, uh, enjoy.

Oh, and I watched National Treasure again this morning (or part of it)

In my opinion, Lare Kikkeli is insane for choosing "National Treasure" as his worst movie ever. There is plenty of stuff that is much more worthy of that title. "National Treasure" was supposed to be a fun adventure, and I think it achieved that very well. It also interested an entire generation in the National Archives and the Declaration of Independance. That's actually priceless from a historical standpoint.

The plot isn't half-arsed, it was good. It was exciting. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

Half-arsed actors? NicCage happens to be one of the greatest actors of our time. Or atleast of my time, I'm only 14. Diane Kruger, Sean Bean, and Justin Bartha were all good in this movie too. Not to mention Jon Voight.

Lare, I'm a bit confused by your stance on Patriotism. You also made a comment about how "Crash" is a boring drama about American racism. I'm sorry if these films aren't universal enough, but these are American films. They are primarily for American audiences. Bashing them for knowing their target audience seems a bit off. I don't watch a Bollywood movie and expect to relate to it easily. I have to alter my expectations.

"Crash" was powerful for me because I deal with American racism every day. It also portrayed the dual nature of racism, the lack of black and white, good and evil. But if you don't live in the US, or rather a major city in the US, it doesn't carry the same wieght.
