Kaftan Barlast
Im at my parents for the summer and so I shipped my stuff up from Uni. To my horror I found that my stationary computer gave a "no graphics card present" beep when I booted up. I checked all the wires and that it was firm in place Then I saw that my computer had obviously been handled very hard since two of my HDD's had come loose. I switched cards with my dads comp, his card works in mine, my card works in neither computer and since I mounted a Zalman cooler on the card the warranty is void... and since I didnt have "FRAGILE" stickers on the package, Im not going to get anything from the movers either :'( AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRGH!!!!!!! edit: My immediate plan is to blow a ****load of cash on a 7950GX2 now and then try to sel that when the Geforce 8000 series are released in november/december. Sounds good? Haitoku
OUCH. It might seem like a waste 99% of the time... but always insure fragile things when you send them. 7950GX2 looks pretty good too.

Darth Drabek
If it's worth it, ya gotta protect it. I just bought an $80 cushioned, hardshell case for my late-1960s Gibson acoustic. I know I'll be moving again soon and that baby is worth thousands and only gonna appreciate, so I figure the expense is worth it to ensure its safety. baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs

Computer equipment makes the list of things that go in your car, not the moving van. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, or at least all the expensive nd fragile bits .... I wouldn't get the 7950GX2 at all: it's poorly made (just two 7900s sandwiched together, with a hole cut out of one to allow air to circulate into to crappy stock fan of the other). I'd go for the 7900, because it has the new tech (including compatibility with the 20% speed boost with the latest, just released nVidia PCI-E chips (5? using the special GPU RAM)) and smaller die / card (not double-sized, like the 7800GTX512). Kaftan Barlast
Problem is that the Uni is on an Island and the only way home is by flying. So either I send it, or I check it in as luggage and let the throwers at the airports have a go at it. Kor Qel Droma
Maybe next time for a lark unhook your cards and strap them to your chest. Have your mouse running through the sleeve of your jacket, like maybe a detonator. That'll make 'em think twice about making you check your luggage. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie. angshuman
My immediate plan is to blow a ****load of cash on a 7950GX2 now and then try to sel that when the Geforce 8000 series are released in november/december. Sounds good? If you are planning to buy a leet card right away (either the GX2 or the GTX), you should perhaps try to sell it about 1 month before the launch of the 8 series. Also, you might want to wait for about a month after launch before purchasing the 8 series card itself so that prices can stabilize. This means you'll need a temporary card for those 2 months, but you'll likely end up saving a lot. Oh, and Meta, glad you share my sentiments about the GX2. :D
Kaftan Barlast
I think the 7950GX2 might be overkill... so does anyone have a clue who makes really quiet 7900GTX cards? The noise from my old Asus 6800u was unbearable which is why I fitted it with a zalman cooler.. which sadlt resulted in the warranty goin down the tube but still.. point: I need a quiet card, tips? Maybe next time for a lark unhook your cards and strap them to your chest. Have your mouse running through the sleeve of your jacket, like maybe a detonator. That'll make 'em think twice about making you check your luggage. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Next time I wont fiddle with the card so Ill have that sweet warranty when it explodes in my face " DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. Judge Hades
Never had any problems with BFG. For Nvidia cards I would either buy BFG or PNY, but BFG is overall better quality but pricier.

Bokishi
I'd switch to 7xxx simply because none of the 6xxx can run Quake 4, Chaos Theory, or FEAR at resolutions higher than 1024 * 768, acceptably. But kaftan's 6800u was the best of the 6 bunch. Current 3DMark

Kaftan Barlast
Gainward has always been a favored brand among overclockers and Ive seen a video of how quiet that card is, but on the other hand with BFG you get a free Tshirt " So, how can the best of the bunch be a crap card? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The old crap is always crap compared to the new ****znit Edited June 16, 2006 by Kaftan Barlast DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner.
