Kaftan Barlast Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 (edited) Hehe.. gothic horro in D&D GM: You wander the myserious dark halls of the castle, wherecould the ancient evil lurk? As.. PALADIN: I detect evil!!! For the full rounds so I know where he is. GM: Ok, well theres somethig very evil in the kitchen cupboard CLERIC: I turn undead!! WIZARD: No wait Il casta a delayed blast fireball doing 15d6 damage!! PALADIN: But I wanna smite him! WIZARD: My fireball pwns your smite, dude. CLERIC: But I still get to turn undead, right? WIZARD: Can you buff me instead or something? GM: Oh, shut up.. the ceiling caves in and you all die. PALADIN: Oh.. CLERIC: Are you sure we all die? GM: Quite sure. WIZARD: But.. do we die horribly or just in a casual way, sort of? GM: Well, I guess that depends on your definition of horrible death. CLERIC: Being burnt to cinders wold be a lot worse, being crushed by several tons of rock is quite quick and painless Id say. WIZARD: What if youre claustrophobic? CLERIC: Yeah, but I mean.. even if you were, you wouldnt have time to get claustrophobic before youwere crushed. PALADIN: Maybe we're just a bit crushed and then we die slowly of asphyxiation? WIZARD: Oh, thats nasty. CLERIC: Nah, being nibbled to death by rats while youre caught in a vice-like grip by the rocks would be worse. PALADIN: Thatd be ok though, a rat wouldnt be able to score a hit on me with my AC even if I dot get to count my dex bonus WIZARD: So youd just die really slowly of starvation instead? PALADIN: Nah, Ive got a ring of sustenance. CLERIC: So youd be stuck under a heap of rubble until you die of old age? PALADIN: Someone could rescue me. GM: No one will rescue you. PALADIN: Why not?! GM: Because this campaign is over, I quit. PALADIN: Drats. WIZARD: You could write a fanfic where you get saved. PALADIN: Yeah! Dude, sweet idea. CLERIC: Would we get saved too? Cantousent Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 I've always been a bit intrigued by Ravenloft but, oimoi, I deal only in custom campaigns. Atreides Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Sounds like the GM's a copout. Just because the players don't want to play it the GM's way s/he screws them. I think in live roleplaying the GM needs to be as flexible as the players are. If they go in expecting some predefined campaign where the players can't act outside certain parameters then they should make a game mod. Having said that, these kind of things go both ways. My way or the highway. Hehe.. gothic horro in D&D GM: You wander the myserious dark halls of the castle, wherecould the ancient evil lurk? As.. PALADIN: I detect evil!!! Darque Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 This is unexpected, I thought Wizards killed the setting like so many others.
steelfiredragon Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 some of the setting like planscape wasnt entirely killed, it was combined. ravenloft from the begining was a demi-plane. one of the others was set in the FR, but was on the conetinent south of faerun. matizaca or what ever was FR from the get go, it just got combined as was Kara-tur. but it was interesting to see that module. Darque Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Hopefully they'll revive Planescape as a full blown setting. I know that WotC has made some adaptions of Darksun, Birthright, Planescape and other settings within Dragon Magazine.
steelfiredragon Posted June 24, 2006 Author Posted June 24, 2006 maybe, maybe not, i dont see then doing so before next year though. they should have though done better with the manual of the planes, AND its add on. Strength through Mercy Head Torturor of the Cult of the Anti-gnome

Dark_Raven Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 This is unexpected, I thought Wizards killed the setting like so many others. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's alive, but not well. I only recall the rule book of the setting being out. Nothing else. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Darque Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 They must have taken the rights back from White Wolf.
Dark_Raven Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 They must have taken the rights back from White Wolf. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fixed. We are not holding a ceremony. Why would WW have the rights to it? Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Dark_Raven Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Not really. Ravenloft was a setting way before WW existed. It belongs to Wizards. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Darque Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Not really. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, you can always google it I suppose. This is probably both a good thing and a bad thing... WotC will probably bloat the setting though. On the other hand it might go nowhere. Ravenloft didn't get any more popular under WW... I think they're practically giving away their backstock at this point.
Darque Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 http://www.white-wolf.com/ravenloft/ I'm not sure how they managed to get it, or how they lost it though.
Dark_Raven Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Maybe they will do a better job with it. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Spider Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 They licensed the rights from WotC when the latter decided to axe the setting. I'm guessing the license simply expired and that WW didn't want to renew if it sales were as bad as Darque lets on. Or maybe WotC wanted to consolidate it's brands in case it (or at least certain divisions) is about to get sold.

Sand Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I have never actually ran a Ravenloft campaign but I have used its adventures and ideas to augment my Forgotten Realms campaign and my current one as well. It really freaked my players out when they had to deal with a ghostly mist that was a serial killer, going from host to host.
