Very few countries allow women in combat situations, but that might change in a few decades since many countries' populations are steadily aging as the result of longer life-expectancies and people having more sex for pleasure but producing less children. Personally, I would hate to see the day when legions of women are killing each other on a battlefield. I believe men and women have equal rights but not equal roles in society. Women should be content with washing dishes and changing diapers. (Just kidding about the last part.)

Women are as free as men to do what they want in society.

Not really. Men are allowed in man's room. Women aren't.

But seriously though, I was thinking more about involuntary military service. If a woman can perform the job better than man and is willing to take the risks, then I have nothing against that.

From a survival of the species perspective it is not a good idea. But from a military perspective I have never seen any reason not to. Indeed, the all-round finest officer I've ever met was female.

Having said that, and realising the contradiction, I am uncomfortable with the notion of 'Wellington' trying to conduct the battle of Waterloo with PMT. :)

That's really upto them. As long as they are capable of the job.

The reasons for not allowing women into combat (protecting your breeding stock) are outdated now anyway.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

I don't reall have much of an opinion one way or the other.

On a similar tangent though, if there's ever another draft and my number comes up the first item on my agenda will be to file a class action lawsuit against the government as a legal means of draft dodging. This is assuming they still only draft men.

I dont think we should allow ANYONE in the military. Man, woman or animal. :)

The problem with having women on frontline duty is that they effect the preformance of men in the same unit.

If women were allowed on the front lines it would likely have to be all-women units.

You couldn't do that.

Imgine, there they are on the front lines, gun fire zipping past them, all of a sudden, Janet notices Betty's cute new pink combat boots. After about a mniute word has spread through out the entire group and now they are all sitting in a circle discussing where they get their hair and nails done.

What kind of military is that I ask you?

The answer is of course, the best kind.

Call me old fashioned...and stupid...but were I in the military, a grunt or something, and there were a woman in my unit, I'd be spending more time doing what I could to make sure she survived than anything else. So I'm sort of undecided on the matter.

Lonewolf is spot on. It's been proven(heck does is even need proving?) that men in fightin units work less efficiently if there's woman present. It's a two-fold problem, first; men try to protect them by instict, and second; be a good forumite and try to make an educated guess. :)

I'd have a hard time shooting a woman. Especially if she was cute.

Also very true.

But is that an argument for the other side to start using women? :p"
