What's more reliable? A random gaming site, or an obscure German mag quote that was translated twice and is hearsay? Is it... a MYSTARY? Edited May 4, 2006 by Llyranor (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Musopticon? Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Worthplaying has yet to exaggerate greatly. I trust them. If the MCA et JE Q&A is any inclination, with 40 hours this game is going to a real blast. I'm talking about memorable characters and a plot that does something right. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Llyranor Posted May 4, 2006 Author Posted May 4, 2006 (edited) Well, GZ's the one reporting the '40 hrs'. INTRIGUING. Edited May 4, 2006 by Llyranor (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Musopticon? Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Worthplaying: "around thirty hours" I'm guessing it's around the same length as K1. Most folks finished K1. Personally, I'm cool with that. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Llyranor Posted May 4, 2006 Author Posted May 4, 2006 The single-player campaign is being designed to take about thirty hours to complete with a single character, and of course, most players are probably going to want to replay the game to see the way it changes for various alignments and to reflect different gameplay decisions. So even before a player begins playing with the campaign making tools or downloading new campaign modules, NWN2 can easily deliver sixty or even ninety hours of solo gameplay. lol whoops (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Musopticon? Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Semantics are teh bomb, eh? kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Musopticon? Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 You get to sit between Airin's humps! How's that not enough?! kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Gromnir Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 it not matter which is more accurate. the thing is that the estimate from the German rag were attributed directly to fergie. 2x translated? yeah, that makes suspect... so why did fergie not simply say that the Germans or the guy who translated from German got it wrong? obvious reason is that the translation were accurate, and fergie did not wanna confirm that they were accurate... which is kinda chicken$h!7, no? any gameplay hours estimates we get at this point is gonna be suspect... if we take josh comments to be true. however, if the Big Herring, aka: uncle fergie, aka: feargus urquhart, gives an estimate of 20 hours and then refuses to confirm or deny... well, that is wrong. at best it is inconsiderate of him to not at least have one of his many toadies clarify. 5 minutes of somebody's day to clarify is asking too much? at worst fergie is being a duplicitous jerk. cowardly b00b is probably falling somewhere in between the two extremes. some folks wanna believe the 40 hour estimate more than the 20, and you is finding excuses for doing so. good for you. Atreides Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 How old was the single player build when Fergie estimated the game time? Spreading beauty with my katana.
Musopticon? Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 New enough. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Volourn Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Grom, Fergie owes us boardies nothing. Previews, reviews, and interviews are more than enough to get info out out. Considering the fact that only the German site through the silly Codex has even hinted that the the campaign 20 hours perhaps Fergie and the rest of the Obsidian feel it's beneath them to clarify such stupid rumours. Heck, some silly site anniunced JE PC yesterday (before taking it down). Some silly poster asked if it was true at the JE boards... it was promptly locked... Again, I feel it silly for us to expect hard working developers (or their bosses) to put down every single asanine rumour.. espicially when there will be tons of interviews, previews, and reviews to do that. Besdies, if you want answers from Obsidian on baords about NWN2... post on the NWN2 boards... that's what they exist for... DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
kirottu Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Besdies, if you want answers from Obsidian on baords about NWN2... post on the NWN2 boards... that's what they exist for... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But going there gives me Bio rash. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Volourn Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Then you are screwed... which is probably why you have a rash in the first place. :D DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
mkreku Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Oohh, 40 hours sounds much more like my cup of tea. 30 hours is still ok, but that's probably where I draw the line between a short game and a game that is too short. Unless it is a FPS. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Moose Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Thirty hours will do, seeing as a life line was dropped back into the multiplayer aspect of the game again. According to Frank Kowthingyman PWs will be able to support roughly 40 areas per a gig of RAM, not taking into account all final overheads etc, so roughly ~150-160 areas (max size, which tbh nobody makes) for a 4Gig set up. Certainly adequate. The thing that's obviously a concern is the length of time a player has to spend downloading on an area transition. Average area size is something 7-9Megs per an outside area, which is like 10x larger than the old setup. Still we'll see, maybe they'll add some uber compression techniques. There are none that are right, only strong of opinion. There are none that are wrong, only ignorant of facts
ShadowPaladin V1.0 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 30 hours sounds like they split the difference. It was never worth getting worked up about the 20 hour thing with so many previews still to come. I have to agree with Volourn. Bioware is pretty much dead now. Deals like this kills development studios. 478327[/snapback]
Gromnir Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 "Grom, Fergie owes us boardies nothing." owes? am not sure 'bout "owes" but any consumer with half a brain should ask questions 'bout a potential purchase... and the reasonable consumer expects to get answers too. ask questions 'bout fergies love life is unreasonable and offensive, but you try to tell us again that it is arrogant to ask questions of fergie 'bout his product and we call bs. if fergie didn't wanna make gameplay hours an issue, he shouldn't have told the gosh darned germans what approx hours were... and if germans got fergie wrong, then fergie can easily explain. oh, and it ain't like the same question were NOT asked by Gromnir on the nwn2 board... so you can go cram that one up your tuckus. am gonna ask everywhere, 'cause fergie ain't responded yet. if we were in socal we would stop by the obsidian offices and ask for a response. HA! Good Fun! Gromnir Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 btw, no matter how silly and a$$inine a rumor may be, fergie or somebody else would answer as soon as 'nuff folks got angry 'bout it. nuf coverage in mags and online sites and on message boards and fergie inevitably shows up to respond. am just not sure why you jokers is letting him get away with this crap. if you honestly thinks 20 hours is an okie dokie new standard for a sp crpg, then fine... sit back and enjoy. but if 20 hours bothers you we don't knows why you wouldn't be banging on doors and sending emals and posting on boards. fergie only stirs when people makes a big 'nuf stink. is unfortunate but true. HA! Good Fun! Cantousent Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I wonder if I'd be escorted away by the police if I were to head out to the Obsidian offices. hahaha I could say, "hey, I'm looking to get into the game industry. I'd like to drop off my resume." Then, when the chance came, I could say, "So, exactly how long do you expect NWN2 to last?" Of course, that would undoubtedly be a one way ticket to the front door. They wouldn't even hand me my hat. They'd just throw it on top of my prone figure after security tossed me to the curve. However, Vol's nuts with this "he doesn't owe us anything! WE SHOULD NOT EVEN DARE TO ASK QUESTIONS!" sort of stance. It's a stupid and offensive position to repeatedly equate asking a question about a product with arrogance. What the hell. Do you people actually believe it's stupid to ask how long the game will last before you buy it? Are you truly that stupid that you see asking a legitimate question before buying a product as the equivalent of pounding on the door and making demands concerning the product? You know, the folks who see this as mostly a toolset and multiplayer platform don't care about length. What happens later, however, when it is an issue closer to your heart? I don't give a damn about what Feargus owes anyone. Consumers owe it to themselves to know something about a product before they buy it. The only thing that saves Feargus on this issue is the fact that he can basically sit back and rest on Bioware's laurels in creating a sequel that he knows is guaranteed to sell. Even that wouldn't save him except that the release date is far enough out that we'll get more specific information well before the product ships. Sure, I think Gromnir is a little overboard on the issue. I'm happy to see new issue come to light and, while it would be nice if Feargus clarified his own statements, we're starting to get clarity anyhow. So, Gromnir might be over-reacting to the issue, but that's a damned sight better than suggesting that we don't react at all. Volourn Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 "However, Vol's nuts with this "he doesn't owe us anything! WE SHOULD NOT EVEN DARE TO ASK QUESTIONS!" Who says I said that? I shoould shoot that guy. I ask questions ALL THE TIME. But, it shouldn't need to be asked 1 billion times. Mr. U hasn't bothered to reply.. that should send a message clearly that he doens't plan to anytime soon. Heck, Mr. Sawyer, who still posts here, has alreayd given an answer... yet, the question still gets spammed... Get the message. I guess, hwoever, to you guys it would be okay for me to keep bugging Mr. Sawyer about my pet issues even though he's either a) alreayd answered them or b) has shown no interest in doing. If Mr. U wants to give you answers he will. Asking questions over, and over can go from being an intelligent potential consumer to harassing. I guess I cna start 20 threads asking why Obsidian has decided to make familiars into pocket protectors.... I mean, as a customer, it's my 'right', right?
