one of the things that has bothered my about black metal bands like Bathory is the inconsistency of mythos.

 

OK, fine, tell me about Odin and Thor and how they are better than the new religion....but don't turn right around and say "Hail Satan". Odinism is not Satanism.

Bathory was first satan and then viking. Every album was a theme album and, not counting anthologies, there was no changing from viking to satanic in the middle of the product.

maybe I'm taking these bands too seriously. but it would seem to me that consistency of "message" would be desirable.

I doubt Quorthon even had a message. He was just creating BM genre from nothing, nil messages. Promoting bingeing, pillaging and shoreburning doesn't count.

Anybody see Eagles of Death Metal on Letterman the other night? They did that "I Want You So Hard" song out in the middle of the street. One-upping the infamous Audioslave marquee show, I guess.

 

It was pretty good, although I didn't see Josh Homme from QOTSA, and I thought he was in that band. I mean, isn't that why people know who they are?
