Dorns Deep was a very nice artistically. Looked like someone put a lot of detail into the background and graphics. Reminds me of Durlags Tower from BG1.

Why start a new thread when I knew a similiar topic already existed.

My part thus far:

Female Elven Mage (Ranged)

Male Dwarf Fighter (Melee)

Female Elf Fighter/mage (Melee)

Male Half-elf Cleric/Mage (Melee)

Female Halfling Fighter/Thief (Ranged)

Male Human Druid (Ranged)

I usually have an even amount of ranged, melee fighters but I think I will have to take one of my ranged and convert them into a melee. If I wasn't playing in Heart of Fury mode it would not be a big deal, but my front line fighters are taking a beating with just three. I think the Druid will have to be number four. The pure mage HPs are too low and the Fighter/Thief is mostly specialized so far in crossbows with one mark in short swords.

Fun. :-

Ah, it's not so bad, Diamond. It's hard, because you're not supposed to necropost on one hand but you're supposed to use the search feature.

That and Dark Raven looks good in black.

At any rate, one of my runs was really heavy on spell casters. I also recall using an elvish barbarian/sorceror. Wait, that was IWD2.

When creating my party I got frustrated because of the lack of monks, cleric deities, barbarians... I literally just sat there with an angry look on my face trying to rethink the party I had planned in my head. Now, I have:

Elven Male Fighter/Thief (Melee)

Dwarven Male Fighter (Melee)

Dwarven Male Fighter/Cleric (Melee)

Human Female Cleirc (Melee)

Human Female Thief (Shortbow)

Elven Female Wizard (Sling)

The thing I miss about IWD2 that is not in IWD is subraces (Drow!) and deity specific paladins and clerics. I like having drow in my party. In IWD they only look drow and do not have restrictions or bonuses.

I like playing Eeeevil drow. Muah ha ha ha ha ha. I actually played through it with the "War of the Spider Queen" party. It was quite fun.

Playing Icewind Dale with a mod or two can enhance the gaming experience. :o

I know of the mods, just not a big fan of modding games. It takes the original challenge away from it. It's kind of like cheating - but more accepted.

I always played IWD with:

Paladin

Fighter/Druid

Cleric/Ranger

Fighter/Mage

Fighter/Thief

Bard

Can't really imagined playing it any other way. :)

That's similar to how I have my party. I don't know what it is, but I always try to include a bard in there.

The majority of my party consists of fighters or magic users. I will usually try one game that has someone unique like a ranger, bard or paladin.

IIRC, my original IWD party was:

F, F/C, F/T, D, B, I.

(that's Druid, Bard, Illusionist there at the end)

I've never gotten very far in attempts to replay it. Once I'm on my 3rd or 4th identical pack of cold wights, I usually decide that I have better things to do with my time.

Reminds me of the lower areas of Dragon's Eye where it seems there are an endless amount of cold wights that keep on attacking you. Combat is fine but lets not go over board with it.

Fix'd.

The game's a dungeon crawler, what did you expect?

- When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.

Dungeon crawlers should be designed to be played at such a pace. As much as I enjoy Icewind Dale, I felt that it was too combat-heavy for its own design system, and thus 'wore out' the player. Perhaps that has something to do with my penchant for playing a single game for hours on end, however... I can't think that many dungeon crawlers are supposed to be played that way.

I think IWD 2 had the balance between bowwow and headbashing just right.

Not in Dragon's Eye though. Freaking Dragon's Eye.

I wouldn't put it that way-- IWD2 was still a slash-fest (especially when you get past Targos). The advantage that the sequel has is a greater ratio of interesting battles to repetitive hacks. Just when you're getting sick of fighting the same group of barbarians or goblins over and over, the game gives you something fun, like the battle for the bridge or the drums outside the goblin fort. Unique, interesting fights were few and far between in IWD1.

(Granted, IWD2's general thrown-together-ness probably make it an inferior game. But it was less tedious than the first.)
