Atreides
Japan is wacky, no doubt but I think it's a cultural thing that they've grown up with. They'd think a lot of the sexual trends in other countries are weird too I'm sure. The thing that disturbs me is the non-consesual themes. Other than that things can get pretty weird to say the least. I remember my friend playing a game where you needed to stalk a girl in a fps setting. When she looked around you had to duck or crouch around things to avoid being detected. Spreading beauty with my katana.
Craigboy2
http://gamershell.com/download_11750.shtml A Japanese game developer called Game Programming Study Club has created what is probably the weirdest Japanese game to date. We have seen it all before, animated porn, animated violence, but in Line-Kill Spirits players must fight a one on one battle and take upskirt pictures while battling to score extra points. I think our source, Inverted Castle sums it up beautifully: "The Japanese are done. They can now return to planet Japania, leaving all the people of Earth horribly confused and scarred for life.". A movie with 1:45 minutes of in-game footage is up for grabs at our download archive for anyone interested in this game (pervs). Never cease to suprise do they. I found it hillarious (more than someone would actually make the game the content to be honest) but I'm sure some of you will be very disturbed by it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Damn...is this game being made by 13 year old genius? I mean come on. Who else would make a game like this except for some perverted teenagers? zer"0"
Too much radiation, maybe? I don't know. I find much of popular Japanese culture disturbing. Some of the stuff : Hentai, rape-games, obsession/worship of female child avatars and demon-tentacle anime are pretty weird from a western p.o.v. To me these are all signs of sexual perversion and psycho-somatic escapism to an unhealthy degree. Maybe I am just ignorant about their culture, but Japan seems to not mind that their pop-fads influence how outsiders view them. Its just . . . Commissar
Modern Japanese culture is, indeed, pretty odd stuff. Their porn games especially, but even anime and getting dressed up in costumes from anime and all that crap just isn't the mark of healthy individuals. Do what I do: limit your intake of Japanese culture to frequent trips to your local hibachi restaurant, and you'll be fine. At least until those oh-so-clever chefs fling shrimp at your head. Aurora
Well, in Japan its ok to be a perv and these are the consequences of that policy. You may argue that we in the west also have a lot of dodgy stuff in that area but the Japanese do it on such a massively larger scale. Eh, when we have, in the US, porn stars advertising sneakers, rape and pseudorape shown for entertainment both in porn and on weekly television shows, and the hyper-sexualization of underage girls... ...then I just can't believe that we're less "perverted" or openly sexual than Japan is, and I can't get so freaked out about tentacle monsters. I can laugh a little at tentacle monsters because it's still creepy and gross but it's not real. I can't laugh the fact that there are many, many sites where 8-year-olds (and 6 year olds, and 13 year olds) are posed in lingerie and bikinis, in extremely sexual positions but it's legal and okay because they're not technically naked. Plus other things, but hopefully the foulness of stuff like this isn't particularly controversial among the adult members of this board. I am following my fish. Arkan
Maybe I am just ignorant about their culture, but Japan seems to not mind that their pop-fads influence how outsiders view them. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right. Japan is just like America. "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta

ShadowPaladin V1.0
Indeed. One of the problems though is what defines a "child" is now social and not biological. ShadowPaladin V1.0
Is it now? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes there is about a 3 year gap (it's not exact since it varies) between reaching puberty and most countries age of consent. Thats why you have all these so called underage pregnancies. It's under age by the social measure. But of course biologically if you were under age, then you couldnt get pregnant. Musopticon?
I always thought we get these pregnancies because of the warped image mass media(e.g pop stars) gives to kids. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. While they may socially be kids, they are in fact biologically adults. Two things have probably changed. 1. The shame factor isnt there anymore. Underage mothers used to be spirited away by the families and no one would think of making it a public scandal. 2. Access to infomation. If you know the theory and are biologically ready there isnt a lot that can stop you putting into practice. I have to agree with Volourn. Bioware is pretty much dead now.
