Diamond
Deja vu? Why I get a feeling all the stories come through slashdot first? <_< Anyway this doesn't mean anything yet, I don't see the relevance of thread title.
Surreptishus
I had always thought the drugs merely prolong life expectancy, augmenting the immune system as it degrades over time. As for 1/100000 europeans being immune to hiv, thats a new one if that was so they'd be the basis for acure.
Darth_Schmarth
Where do I applyfor immunity? Is it expensive? Just imagine: unlimitied loving in the name of Amor! ^Asinus asinorum in saecula saeculorum
Walsingham
As I saw on the BBC there are a number of anecdotal cases of persons, for example sexworkers, who appear to be immune to the virus. However, I am afraid that on balance I'd believe the hospital got the test result wrong in the first place. These things happen even in the best run places. "It wasn't lies. Diamond
^ In a good lab, when a test is positive, usually there is a repeat test and maybe a third one, so the probability is extremely low.

The worst part is that most cancers are preventalble. Article
alanschu
Well, it mentions in the article that you link to that the rates of deaths for both cancer and heart disease are falling...just that heart disease is falling faster.
Atreides
I don't know about cancer being preventable (unless lung etc from smoking). As people live longer there are more ways for the system to start failing. Spreading beauty with my katana.

These things happen even in the best run places. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There are sex-workers in Africa that are exposed daily to HIV with seemingly no deleterious effects; also there have been a number of babies born to HIV positive mothers that have tested positive and then tested negative. All of these people are in serious long-term studies to help medicine understand the virus.
