At least according to my English Language lecturer, Proto-Indo-European originated in the area around the Crimea (or possibly Anatolia), and spread from there. Proto-Germanic, however, didn't break off as a distinct language until after the proto-indo-europeans had settled in northern Germany and southern Scandinavia. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, I see.
