ShadowPaladin V1.0 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I liked Golden sun on GBA, is the Ocarina of Time a JRPG cos that was awesome. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep thats another fantastic one. Even more impressive when you consider it's on a handheld. Ocarina of time is more action adventure than RPG. Personally I think it's the best game ever though it just had so much content packed in there. I have to agree with Volourn. Bioware is pretty much dead now. Baley Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I liked the original SNES Star Ocean and the Shining Force series.
GhostofAnakin Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Where's the option for indifferent? I neither love nor hate them. I just don't play them. "Console exclusive is such a harsh word." - Darque"Console exclusive is two words Darque." - Nartwak (in response to Darque's observation)
Judge Hades Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 One of the main reasons why I don't like JRPGs is the dependence on cutscenes. I want to play my character and not watch my character. I was quite annoyed with FFX when Tidus was doing all this cool sh*t and I was not the one controlling him to do it. I want to play my game, not watch it.
Yst Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I liek Hentai games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you want to watch porn there are much better options. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Totally baited. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Masterfully baited. A true master baiter.

mkreku Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I like the Shining Force games. Sega needs to make Shining Force 3. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/shiningfor...tml?sid=6125646 Shining Force Neo is being released on the PS2 in a week or so (October 18). Lucky, huh?! Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

Lucky, huh?! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Neo is probably more Ys than traditional Shining Force, not that it's a bad thing. But they are very different games. Wonder if they will release it Europe. Azure79 Posted October 11, 2005 Author Posted October 11, 2005 Looks like I'll have to buy a Gamecube and a GBA and a GBA adaptor to play all those interesting titles. I'll definitely try those games you mentioned SP. I've seen Shadowheart in the used section of my local Gamestop. I can pick it up for an affordable price. The reason I play most games is for the underlying story and the characters. I guess that's why I'm drawn to JRPGs. But I can't seem to get past the random encounters and other aspects I mentioned before. Everytime the screen blurs and phases out to signal another enemy encounter, I get annoyed. Maybe another game atmosphere other than FF will change that. I hope. I saw a movie for a game called 'Digital Demon Saga 2' or Shin Megami Tensei(?) The artwork and animations were strangely appealing. I was thinking about givng that game a whirl.
Pidesco Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I like some of the Tales games. Tales of Phantasia (Super Famicon) is still one of the best games I've ever played. There are some successful series of JRPGs I really hate though. Breath of Fire ands Suikoden come to mind. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Reveilled Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Where's the option for indifferent? I neither love nor hate them. I just don't play them. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To indicate your indifference to JPRGs, don't post in a thread about them. Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!

It translates as godess of rebirth (which makes sense after the intro). Your character changes depending on what powers you specialise in. There are I think 6 or maybe 8 endings, two of them are sort of secret. You recruit rather than create your party (hence pokemon reference). Once you have a some demons you can breed (fuse) and sacrifice them in all sorts of ways. As they level they can learn upto 8 skills ,some of which carry over when you merge them. Some of them can evolve too. The game is huge, but there isnt really speech so you can name your character and all the NPCs. Again its VERY dark and demon oriented so if thats not your cup of tea avoid. The bad news is the encounter rate is HIGH and you dont get a reduction power for quite a while so it can get very annoying, especially since the encounters can be pretty tough and it's one of the few JRPGs where a non boss has actually managed to take down my party. Save points are few and far between too, so it's worth bearing that in mind. Should mention it has some fantastic puzzles too, the puzzle based minigame is great fun and the reward is worth it, assuming the puzzles dont make you throw your controller through the screen. Judas Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I like JRPG's. FFX is one of my favourite games. I enjoyed the Xenosaga games as well. Most JRPG's have pretty good (though usually mellodramatic and soemtimes outright goofy) stories. But like a few other said, they seem to be more of an interactive movie/story than a game, sometimes, but I don't mind that, though I could see why it would aggravate people who want to be playing the whole time.
Craigboy2 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I don't like JRPGS. "Your total disregard for the law and human decency both disgusts me and touches my heart. Bless you, sir." "Soilent Green is people. This guy's just a homeless heroin junkie who got in a internet caf

Gabrielle Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Don't recall playing any so I can't formulate an opinion on such.
Oerwinde Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I like JRPGs. Most of the games I own for console are JRPGs. The Suikoden series is the best of the bunch though. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
Lord Tingeling Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Got nothing against the genre as such. Chrono Trigger remains one of my favourite games, and while I've never really gotten into the FF series (apart from V/VI)- I tend to pick up a title I see as interesting (provided I've got the time/money to spare). Just finished Riviera: The Promised Land a while ago. Cuteness "McDonald's taste damn good. I'd rtahe reat their wonderful food then the poisonous junk you server in your house that's for sure. Qazplm Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 When it comes to jrpg they can be fun but mostly they are just boring. But there is some that are fun like phantasy star 4 or final fantasy VI. When i think abut it they are one of the few jrpgs that i have finished
@\NightandtheShape/@ Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 I've not enjoied many JRPG's, to me it always seemed like pressing reading a book and pressing X alot and attcking randomly and well.... You get the picture, I did enjoy the shining series of games. Shining in the darkness, and shining force were favs of mine back in the day, but they were so to speak a little different, I never managed to get on with JRPG's after those, no not even Chrono. If anything it's the style, they're usually well balanced and pretty well built. "I'm a programmer at a games company... REET GOOD!" - Me
