Yes, but this will stop you from taking advantage of BG2's new classes and subclasses. You also lose all your equipment. The only real reason to "import" is for roleplaying continuity, and to keep your statistics (you can raise them, uh, by special means unique to BG1.)

Wrong. If you're sneaky and dishonest you won't loose your equipment, and regardless, when you import a character you will be able to choose a kit (as well as voice, appearance, etc).

I can't remember wheter it allows wizards to cross over into sorcerers or not, so I suppose there might be that...

Maybe Gemrb could someday make those classes avaiable in BG1.

That be a nice perk. Continue the good work Avenger.

Yoiiiu can doiwnloiaid tuituii, a moidi that alloiwis yoiui toii play bg1 uising the bg2 engine. This means that yoiui can play in higher res and have the new character oiptioins suich as kits and half oirics.

The only stuff you find that used to be yours are the easter egg stuff, like the pantaloons.

I wasn't aware of the stat-raising option, though. Is that when you are importing when running BG2, or...?

No, you are incorrect.

Certain other items do carry over. Like the Claw of Kerzawagawhatever that I'm fond of.

Also, based on what you were carrying, certain other items will be found in the dungeon.

As for statraising... you are forgetting those +1 stat books :) 1 for each stat, with 3 for wisdom

I was a total power gamer when I played through my Baldur's Gate titles.

I got a good roll as a Paladin, and was able to put 18 in all my stats except for Intelligence, which I had to drop down to three. But hey, it didn't matter for a Paladin right? :)

With all the Tome's, my Paladin was rock on powerful going into Baldur's Gate 2. Although the crap intelligence made the "Maze" spell particularly bad for me, as it took my PC (and most powerful character) out of combat for like 12 rounds or something goofy because he was too stupid to negotiate the maze. Was less annoying than "Imprisonment" though. Ugh.

Don't bother being a lamewad and keeping your kit. You will be far more angry and up for vengeance when you find it has all been knicked. Plus scraping your way 'up' to new kit is fun. Also there is a possibility to win some of it back in fights later on.

And you can choose the kits, provided you are some of the simpler character classes. I have played through as a fighter (became mage slayer) and a cleric (became specialist cleric). besides, I definitely recommend carrying the character through. It ties you much closer to the story.

Hahah. But i don't have Throne of Bhall, or TotSC see. And it doesn't work without them.

P.S.

It always pissed me of that the best armor in the game (BG1) required killing an innocent.

Oh well, good roleplaying at least. And there is always the shadow armor,

There was one that allowed spellcasting too right? Was it the green bugs armor?

I'd wait a couple more months for Tutu 1.6, which fixes the annoying creature spawn issues (a pack of dread wolves at level 1 is kinda hard unless you're hardcore). You can download the beta now if you're impatient but it has a couple of issues.

What armour was that, and who do you kill to get it?

Aside from quests not showing in the journal, Tutu works fine for me. And considering that my dialog.tlk isn't of a supported language, that's something. Also, it seems to work without TotSC.

If you can, I'd recommend installing the "BG1NPC project", or somesuch, that adds lots of banter between the PC and the NPCs, and between the NPCs themselves. I also believe it changes their portraits to the BG2 version when possible, but that may be a feature of Tutu in itself. Anyway, it lets you choose what you want to install and what you don't. It's in the same site.

Also, the readme included with the package is incomplete. It has few steps missing that for me made the difference between the game working and it crashing at startup. The one you should pay attention to is the one on the site.

1.5 doesn't exist for some reason, 1.4 is the stable version you can download. Make sure you download the tutu fixpack as well since it contains all the updates they've made since japeth left the project (he's back now hence the upcoming release of 1.6).
