Laozi Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 You can think of me or your favorite bands however you want to. The fact is I've seen a ton of songs like the ones you posted, even far worse ones. Problem is people who make songs like that are either talking about their own lives or actually trying to make political statements in their songs. Which is fine, but these people constantly rant on and on about how miserable their life is or how horrible/corrupt the government or society is. I'm sure there are exceptions who actually do stuff to help out, but they are just that: exceptions. Many of them amount to little more than whiners, in the long run, and do nothing to improve things. Especially the ones who just complain about how much their lives suck. You think life's so bad? Try going to a third-world country in Africa and live off the land. Think you're society or government is horribly corrupt? Go to some communist country like North Korea, you bunch of whiners. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ]I guess we'll just have to stop debating about this and just agree that you don't know what your talking about. Making huge generalizations is ok. if your favorite bands write songs about werewolves and such, but for those interested in individual content of songs it doesn't work. It's too early in the evening to issue a formal warning, but that just wasn't cool. On the flip side, no lyrics got the chop today. Some dark, some funny, and a few kind of strange. Reveilled Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Harry and the Potters - Wizard Chess I don't want to go home for christmas, this year, I don't want to see my, family. I just want to stay at school for this, Winter's Break, I just want to stay at school with my best friend Ron. Oh, oh, oh oh oh, We'll spend our christmas playing wizard chess, Oh, oh, oh oh oh, We'll play wizard chess this christmas. Ron's mom sent him, a nice package of presents, She sent me, a nice big sweater, I got a mysterious, gift from my dead dad, It was an invisibili-tee cloak, how rad. Oh, oh, oh oh oh, We'll spend our christmas being invisble, Oh, oh, oh oh oh, We'll be invisible this christmas. Oh, oh, oh oh oh, We'll spend our christmas playing wizard chess, Oh, oh, oh oh oh, We'll play wizard chess this christmas. Oh yeeeeah. When I first heard this song, I literally fell of my chair and rolled on the floor laughing. No, seriously, I actually fell of my chair. Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!

EnderAndrew Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I saw Verve Pipe, Tonic and K's Choice together for like $15 and it was actually a great show. I like happy songs... "State of Love and Trust" - Pearl Jam Oh ... State of love and trust as I busted down the pretest Sin still plays and preaches, but to have an empty court, uh huh And the signs are passin`, grip the wheel, can`t read it Sacrifice receiving the smell that`s on my hands ... hands, yeah And I listen for the voice inside my head Nothin`, I`ll do this one myself Lay her down as priest does, Should the lord be accountin` Will be in my honour, make it pain, painfully quick, uh huh Promises are whispered in the age of darkness Want to be enlightened like I want to be told the end ... end, yeah And the barrel shakes aimed a-directly at my head Oh, help me, help me from myself And I listen yeah, from both sides of the bed Nothin`, I`ll do this one myself Oh oh ohMyself ... myself Yeah, yeah ... Hey, na-na-na-na, hey that`s something Hey, na-na-na-na, hey that`s something Hey, na-na-na-na, hey that`s something Wanna back, back it away, yeah And I listen, yeah, for the voice inside my head Nothin`, I`ll do this one myself Oh, ah, and the barrel waits, trigger shakes Aimed right at my head, won`t you help me Help me from myself Eh Oh Eh Oh Ehh (x2) Hmm ... state of love and trust, and a ... EnderAndrew Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I actually cried when I heard Tori Amos tell the story behind this song and sing it live. "Marianne" - Tori Amos (maybe the best lyricist I know) Tuna Rubber A little blubber in my igloo And I knew you pigtails and all Grils when they fall And they said Marianne killed herself And I said not a chance Don't you love the girls ladies babes Old bags who say she was so pretty why Why why why did she crawl down in the old Deep ravine C'mon pigtails girls and all those sailors Get your bags and hold down won't you just Hold down cause Ed is watching my every sound I said They're watching my every sound The weasel squeaks faster than a seven day week I said Timmy and that purple Monkey Are all down At Bobby's house Making themselves pesters and lesters and jesters an dmy Traitors of kind And I'm just having thoughts of Marianne She could outrun the fastest slug She could Marianne Quickest girl in the frying pan

EnderAndrew Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 No, I contend she is one of the greatest lyricists alive. http://www.azlyrics.com/a/amos.html Every single one of her songs is like poetry. And as much as I prefer dark, nasty, angsty industrial and rock music, Tori Amos is hands down the best concert experience I've ever had in my life. If there is a bette live performer, I've yet to see them.
Laozi Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I have a friend Joe who really likes her too, I'm always giving him ****. You wouldn't by chance really like the Cure too? EnderAndrew Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I don't mind the Cure, but I'm not a big fan. For some reason I never really got into bads like Cure and Depressed Mode. Maybe it was that I wasn't into music as much in the 80's. The first time I owned a Cure song on a CD was when I bought the Crow Soundtrack.

Darth Drabek Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Okay, okay, I get the message. No more songs about killing sprees. Though how those lyrics are more harsh than half the death/black/thrash/grind metal that's still here beats me. Oh wait, there is a difference - Nick Cave's lyrics are good. Tom Waits Invitation To The Blues Well she's up against the register with an apron and a spatula, Yesterday's deliveries, tickets for the bachelors She's a moving violation from her conk down to her shoes, But it's just an invitation to the blues And you feel just like Cagney, she looks like Rita Hayworth At the counter of the Schwab's drugstore You wonder if she might be single, she's a loner and likes to mingle Got to be patient, try and pick up a clue She said "How you gonna like 'em, over medium or scrambled?", You say "Anyway's the only way", be careful not to gamble On a guy with a suitcase and a ticket getting out of here It's a tired bus station and an old pair of shoes This ain't nothing but an invitation to the blues But you can't take your eyes off her, get another cup of java, It's just the way she pours it for you, joking with the customers Mercy mercy, Mr. Percy, there ain't nothing back in Jersey But a broken-down jalopy of a man I left behind And the dream that I was chasin, and a battle with the booze And an open invitation to the blues But she used to have a sugar daddy and a candy-apple Caddy, And a bank account and everything, accustomed to the finer things He probably left her for a socialite, and he didn't love her 'cept at night, And then he's drunk and never even told her that her that he cared So they took the registration, and the car-keys and her shoes And left her with an invitation to the blues 'Cause there's a Continental Trailways leaving local bus tonight, good evening You can have my seat, I'm sticking round here for a while Get me a room at the Squire, the filling station's hiring, And I can eat here every night, what the hell have I got to lose? Got a crazy sensation, go or stay? now I gotta choose, And I'll accept your invitation to the blues baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
Cantousent Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Yeah, I hear you, DDrabek, your song was clearly better. The violence was a little more graphic in your lyrics, though. Very weird, very interesting story, though. Kind of chilling, really. ...And much better than the dark goth or whatever. To be fair, though, I have deleted some of the more graphic dark goth lyrics also. Here's another of my favorite Pink Floyd songs: Comfortably Numb Hello, Is there anybody in there Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home Come on now I hear you're feeling down I can ease your pain And get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb O.K. Just a little pin prick There'll be no more aaaaaaaah! But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on it's time to go. There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone And I have become Comfortably numb. Darth Drabek Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 No problem, Eldar. I know I wouldn't want to have to moderate this thread, that's for sure. Eh, while I'm here, I might as well post another of my lyrical favorites. Bad Religion American Jesus I don't need to be a global citizen, 'Cuz I'm blessed by nationality. I'm member of a growing populace, We enforce our popularity. There are things that seem to pull us under and, There are things that drag us down. But there's a power and a vital presence, It's lurking all around. We've got the American Jesus, See him on the interstate. We've got the American Jesus, He helped build the President's estate. I feel sorry for the Earth's population, 'Cuz so few live in the U.S.A. At least the foreigners can copy our morality, They can visit but they cannot stay. Only precious few can garner our prosperity, It makes us walk with renewed confidence. We got a place to go when we die, And the architect resides right here. We've got the American Jesus, Bolstering national faith. We've got the American Jesus, Overwhelming millions every day. He's the farmer's barren fields, The force the army wields, The expressions on the faces of the starving millions, He's the power of the man, He's the fuel that drives the Klan, He's the motive and the conscience of the murderer, He's the preacher on T.V. , The false sincerity, The form letter that's written by the big computers, The nuclear bombs, The kids with no moms, And i'm fearful that he's inside me... We've got the American Jesus See him on the interstate We've got the American Jesus Exercising his authority We've got the American Jesus Bolstering national faith We've got the American Jesus Overwhelming millions every day One nation, under God... baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs

Kor Qel Droma Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Franz Ferdinand: Jacqueline Jacqueline was seventeen Working on a desk When Iver Peered above a spectacle Forgot that he had wrecked a girl Sometimes these eyes Forget the face they're peering from When the face they peer upon Well, you know That face as i do And how in the return of tha gaze She can return you the face That you are staring from It's always better on holiday So much better on holiday That's why we only work when We need the money Gregor was down again Said come on, kick me again Said i'm so drunk I don't mind if you kill me Come on you gutless I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive And how i know it But for chips and for freedom I could die It's always better on holiday... and I've been loving this song by the Fountains of Wayne for the past two days or so, so... Well I Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
Reveilled Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 I used to really like Franz Ferdinand. They were my favourite band. Then I went to one of their concerts, and they only came on for 45 minutes (including an encore), fifteen minutes of which were consumed by playing a short riff on one string and shouting "Scotland" at the end of it (this was also the only "song" they played that wasn't on their album). When they left the stage at the end of their set (before the encore, which incidentally consisted of one extra song), I turned to the friend I was with and said "I didn't know there was an interval". After going to what was, in my opinion, the worst concert evar, I've not listened to my Franz Ferdinand album since. Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!
