A Perfect Circle "Rose"

Don't disturb

The beast

The tempermental goat

The snail while he's feeding on

the Rose

Stay frozen, compromising

What I will

I am

Bend around

The wind silently

thrown about

Again I'm treading so

Soft and lightly

Compromising my will

I am

I am

I will

So no longer

Will I

Lay down

Play dead

Play your doe

in the headlights locked down

and terrified

Your deer in the headlights

shot down and horrified when

Push comes to pull comes to shove

Comes to step around this

Self-destructing dance that never

would've ended till I

Rose,

I roared aloud here

I will

I am.

I am

I will

So no longer

Will I

Lay down

Lay dead

Play this

Kneel down

Gun-shy Martyr

Pitiful

I rose, I roared

I will

I am

I had thought that some of nature's journeymen had made men and not made them well, for they imitated humanity so abominably. - Book of Counted Sorrows

'Cause I won't know the man that kills me

and I don't know these men I kill

but we all wind up on the same side

'cause ain't none of us doin' god's will.

DarkThrone-A Blaze In The Northern Sky

Hear a Haunting Chant

Lying in the Northern wind

As the Sky turns Black

clouds of Melancholy

rape the Beams

of a Devoid Dying Sun

and the Distant Fog approaches

Coven of forgotten Delight

Hear the Pride of a Northern Storm

Triumphant sight on a Northern Sky

Where the days are Dark

and Night the Same

Moonlight Drank the Blood

of a thousand Pagan men

It took ten times a hundred Years

Before the King on the Northern Throne

was brought Tales of the crucified one

Coven of renewed Delight;

A Thousand Years have passed since then -

Years of Lost Pride and Lust

Souls of Blasphemy,

hear a Haunting Chant -

We are a Blaze in the Northern Sky

The next thousand Years Are OURS

master of my domain

Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo.

You can think of me or your favorite bands however you want to.  The fact is I've seen a ton of songs like the ones you posted, even far worse ones.  Problem is people who make songs like that are either talking about their own lives or actually trying to make political statements in their songs.  Which is fine, but these people constantly rant on and on about how miserable their life is or how horrible/corrupt the government or society is.  I'm sure there are exceptions who actually do stuff to help out, but they are just that: exceptions.  Many of them amount to little more than whiners, in the long run, and do nothing to improve things.  ;)  Especially the ones who just complain about how much their lives suck.  You think life's so bad?  Try going to a third-world country in Africa and live off the land.  Think you're society or government is horribly corrupt?  Go to some communist country like North Korea, you bunch of whiners.

]I guess we'll just have to stop debating about this and just agree that you don't know what your talking about. Making huge generalizations is ok. if your favorite bands write songs about werewolves and such, but for those interested in individual content of songs it doesn't work.

Egads, posts edited. For shame, Laozi. Don't speculate on where folks sit, in what the sit, or how they enjoy teletubbies while they sit. It's too early in the evening to issue a formal warning, but that just wasn't cool.

On the flip side, no lyrics got the chop today. Some dark, some funny, and a few kind of strange.

Keep the lyrics and the discussion going, friends.

Harry and the Potters - Wizard Chess

I don't want to go home for christmas, this year,

I don't want to see my, family.

I just want to stay at school for this, Winter's Break,

I just want to stay at school with my best friend Ron.

Oh, oh, oh oh oh,

We'll spend our christmas playing wizard chess,

Oh, oh, oh oh oh,

We'll play wizard chess this christmas.

Ron's mom sent him, a nice package of presents,

She sent me, a nice big sweater,

I got a mysterious, gift from my dead dad,

It was an invisibili-tee cloak,

how rad.

Oh, oh, oh oh oh,

We'll spend our christmas being invisble,

Oh, oh, oh oh oh,

We'll be invisible this christmas.

Oh, oh, oh oh oh,

We'll spend our christmas playing wizard chess,

Oh, oh, oh oh oh,

We'll play wizard chess this christmas.

Oh yeeeeah.

When I first heard this song, I literally fell of my chair and rolled on the floor laughing. No, seriously, I actually fell of my chair.

Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!

Yep......

"Hey" by the Pixies

hey

been trying to meet you

hey

must be a devil between us

or whores in my head

whores at my door

whores in my bed

but hey

where

have you

been if you go i will surely die

we're chained

uh said the man to the lady

uh said the lady to the man she adored

and the whores like a choir

go uh all night

and mary ain't you tired of this

uh

is

the

sound

that the mother makes when the baby breaks

we're chained

uh huh, this ones pretty topical lately:

NOFX Eat the Meek

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

Bcause there's never gonna be enough space

So eat the meek, enjoy the waste

It's always gonna be a delicacy

Lick your chops and eat the meek

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

The factory mass producing fear, bottled,

Capped, distributed near and far

Sold for a reasonable price

And the people, they love it, they feed it

Brush with it, bathe with it, breathe it

Inject it direct to the blood

It seems to be replacing love

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

Because there's always gonna be token truth

Forgotten code discarded youth

You know there's always gonna be pedigree

One own the air one pay to breathe

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

Y mussed oui stay wear wee don't bee longe

Verve Pipe "Freshmen"

When I was young and knew everything

And she a punk who rarely ever took advice

Now I'm guilt stricken

Sobbing with my head on the floor

Stop a baby's breath and a shoe full of rice

I can't be held responsible

Cause she was touching her face

I won't be held responsible

She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember

What made us think that we were wise and

We'd never compromise

For the life of me I cannot believe

We'd ever die for these sins

We were merely freshmen

My best friend took a week's

Vacation to forget her

His girl took a week's worth of

Valium and slept

Now he's guilt stricken sobbing with his

Head on the floor

Thinks about her now and how he never really

Wept he says

I can't be held responsible

Cause she was touching her face

I won't be held responsible

She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember

What made us think that we were wise and

We'd never compromise

For the life of me I cannot believe

We'd ever die for these sins

We were merely freshmen

We've tried to wash our hands of all of this

We never talk of our lack in relationships

And how we're guilt stricken sobbing with our

Heads on the floor

We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip

We'd say

I can't be held responsible

Cause she was touching her face

And I won't be held responsible

She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember

What made us think that we were wise and

We'd never compromise

For the life of me I cannot believe

We'd ever die for these sins

We were merely freshmen

We were merely freshmen

We were only freshmen...

"We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip" is a line that's going to stay with me for many years to come.

I saw Verve Pipe, Tonic and K's Choice together for like $15 and it was actually a great show.

I like happy songs...

"State of Love and Trust" - Pearl Jam

Oh ...

State of love and trust as I busted down the pretest

Sin still plays and preaches, but to have an empty court, uh huh

And the signs are passin`, grip the wheel, can`t read it

Sacrifice receiving the smell that`s on my hands ... hands, yeah

And I listen for the voice inside my head

Nothin`, I`ll do this one myself

Lay her down as priest does, Should the lord be accountin`

Will be in my honour, make it pain, painfully quick, uh huh

Promises are whispered in the age of darkness

Want to be enlightened like I want to be told the end ... end, yeah

And the barrel shakes aimed a-directly at my head

Oh, help me, help me from myself

And I listen yeah, from both sides of the bed

Nothin`, I`ll do this one myself

Oh oh ohMyself ... myself

Yeah, yeah ...

Hey, na-na-na-na, hey that`s something

Hey, na-na-na-na, hey that`s something

Hey, na-na-na-na, hey that`s something

Wanna back, back it away, yeah

And I listen, yeah, for the voice inside my head

Nothin`, I`ll do this one myself

Oh, ah, and the barrel waits, trigger shakes

Aimed right at my head, won`t you help me

Help me from myself

Eh Oh Eh Oh Ehh (x2)

Hmm ... state of love and trust, and a ...

State of love and trust, and a ...

State of love and trust, and a ...

State of love and ... yeah yeah

I actually cried when I heard Tori Amos tell the story behind this song and sing it live.

"Marianne" - Tori Amos (maybe the best lyricist I know)

Tuna

Rubber

A little blubber in my igloo

And I knew you pigtails and all

Grils when they fall

And they said Marianne killed herself

And I said not a chance

Don't you love the girls ladies babes

Old bags who say she was so pretty why

Why why why did she crawl down in the old

Deep ravine

C'mon pigtails girls and all those sailors

Get your bags and hold down won't you just

Hold down cause Ed is watching my every sound

I said

They're watching my every sound

The weasel squeaks faster than a seven day week

I said Timmy and that purple Monkey

Are all down

At Bobby's house

Making themselves pesters and lesters and jesters an dmy

Traitors of kind

And I'm just having thoughts of Marianne

She could outrun the fastest slug

She could

Marianne

Quickest girl in the frying pan

No, I contend she is one of the greatest lyricists alive.

http://www.azlyrics.com/a/amos.html

Every single one of her songs is like poetry.

And as much as I prefer dark, nasty, angsty industrial and rock music, Tori Amos is hands down the best concert experience I've ever had in my life. If there is a bette live performer, I've yet to see them.

I don't mind the Cure, but I'm not a big fan. For some reason I never really got into bads like Cure and Depressed Mode. Maybe it was that I wasn't into music as much in the 80's.

The first time I owned a Cure song on a CD was when I bought the Crow Soundtrack.

Okay, okay, I get the message. No more songs about killing sprees. Though how those lyrics are more harsh than half the death/black/thrash/grind metal that's still here beats me. Oh wait, there is a difference - Nick Cave's lyrics are good. ;)

Tom Waits

Invitation To The Blues

Well she's up against the register with an apron and a spatula,

Yesterday's deliveries, tickets for the bachelors

She's a moving violation from her conk down to her shoes,

But it's just an invitation to the blues

And you feel just like Cagney, she looks like Rita Hayworth

At the counter of the Schwab's drugstore

You wonder if she might be single, she's a loner and likes to mingle

Got to be patient, try and pick up a clue

She said "How you gonna like 'em, over medium or scrambled?",

You say "Anyway's the only way", be careful not to gamble

On a guy with a suitcase and a ticket getting out of here

It's a tired bus station and an old pair of shoes

This ain't nothing but an invitation to the blues

But you can't take your eyes off her, get another cup of java,

It's just the way she pours it for you, joking with the customers

Mercy mercy, Mr. Percy, there ain't nothing back in Jersey

But a broken-down jalopy of a man I left behind

And the dream that I was chasin, and a battle with the booze

And an open invitation to the blues

But she used to have a sugar daddy and a candy-apple Caddy,

And a bank account and everything, accustomed to the finer things

He probably left her for a socialite, and he didn't love her 'cept at night,

And then he's drunk and never even told her that her that he cared

So they took the registration, and the car-keys and her shoes

And left her with an invitation to the blues

'Cause there's a Continental Trailways leaving local bus tonight, good evening

You can have my seat, I'm sticking round here for a while

Get me a room at the Squire, the filling station's hiring,

And I can eat here every night, what the hell have I got to lose?

Got a crazy sensation, go or stay? now I gotta choose,

And I'll accept your invitation to the blues

Yeah, I hear you, DDrabek, your song was clearly better. The violence was a little more graphic in your lyrics, though. Very weird, very interesting story, though. Kind of chilling, really. ...And much better than the dark goth or whatever. To be fair, though, I have deleted some of the more graphic dark goth lyrics also.

Here's another of my favorite Pink Floyd songs:

Comfortably Numb

Hello,

Is there anybody in there

Just nod if you can hear me

Is there anyone at home

Come on now

I hear you're feeling down

I can ease your pain

And get you on your feet again

Relax

I'll need some information first

Just the basic facts

Can you show me where it hurts

There is no pain, you are receding

A distant ship smoke on the horizon

You are coming through in waves

Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I had a fever

My hands felt just like two balloons

Now I've got that feeling once again

I can't explain, you would not understand

This is not how I am

I have become comfortably numb

O.K.

Just a little pin prick

There'll be no more aaaaaaaah!

But you may feel a little sick

Can you stand up?

I do believe it's working, good

That'll keep you going through the show

Come on it's time to go.

There is no pain you are receding

A distant ship smoke on the horizon

You are only coming through in waves

Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child

I caught a fleeting glimpse

Out of the corner of my eye

I turned to look but it was gone

I cannot put my finger on it now

The child is grown

The dream is gone

And I have become

Comfortably numb.

No problem, Eldar. I know I wouldn't want to have to moderate this thread, that's for sure.

Eh, while I'm here, I might as well post another of my lyrical favorites.

Bad Religion

American Jesus

I don't need to be a global citizen,

'Cuz I'm blessed by nationality.

I'm member of a growing populace,

We enforce our popularity.

There are things that seem to pull us under and,

There are things that drag us down.

But there's a power and a vital presence,

It's lurking all around.

We've got the American Jesus,

See him on the interstate.

We've got the American Jesus,

He helped build the President's estate.

I feel sorry for the Earth's population,

'Cuz so few live in the U.S.A.

At least the foreigners can copy our morality,

They can visit but they cannot stay.

Only precious few can garner our prosperity,

It makes us walk with renewed confidence.

We got a place to go when we die,

And the architect resides right here.

We've got the American Jesus,

Bolstering national faith.

We've got the American Jesus,

Overwhelming millions every day.

He's the farmer's barren fields,

The force the army wields,

The expressions on the faces of the starving millions,

He's the power of the man,

He's the fuel that drives the Klan,

He's the motive and the conscience of the murderer,

He's the preacher on T.V. ,

The false sincerity,

The form letter that's written by the big computers,

The nuclear bombs,

The kids with no moms,

And i'm fearful that he's inside me...

We've got the American Jesus

See him on the interstate

We've got the American Jesus

Exercising his authority

We've got the American Jesus

Bolstering national faith

We've got the American Jesus

Overwhelming millions every day

One nation, under God...

Franz Ferdinand: Jacqueline

Jacqueline was seventeen

Working on a desk

When Iver

Peered above a spectacle

Forgot that he had wrecked a girl

Sometimes these eyes

Forget the face they're peering from

When the face they peer upon

Well, you know

That face as i do

And how in the return of tha gaze

She can return you the face

That you are staring from

It's always better on holiday

So much better on holiday

That's why we only work when

We need the money

Gregor was down again

Said come on, kick me again

Said i'm so drunk

I don't mind if you kill me

Come on you gutless

I'm alive

I'm alive

I'm alive

And how i know it

But for chips and for freedom

I could die

It's always better on holiday...

and I've been loving this song by the Fountains of Wayne for the past two days or so, so...

I used to really like Franz Ferdinand. They were my favourite band. Then I went to one of their concerts, and they only came on for 45 minutes (including an encore), fifteen minutes of which were consumed by playing a short riff on one string and shouting "Scotland" at the end of it (this was also the only "song" they played that wasn't on their album). When they left the stage at the end of their set (before the encore, which incidentally consisted of one extra song), I turned to the friend I was with and said "I didn't know there was an interval". After going to what was, in my opinion, the worst concert evar, I've not listened to my Franz Ferdinand album since. :)
