Revan--Dark complected guy with the "soul patch"

Exile--White guy with stubble or black guy with the spiked hair

Posted

Revan is the guy with medium/long brown hair, combed back. He's a Scout/Guardian and uses a single green bladed lightsaber. He believed that his name was Trebb Namrag until he found out otherwise.

The exile's the white girl with short blonde hair. She's a Guardian/Weapon Master and uses a single violet bladed lightsaber. Her name is Rena Baltron.

(btw, Revan and Exile were both lightside male, this is canonical (offical lucas/star wars) info)

I'm guessing from the wink smiley that you're just trying to get a rise out of the female Revan crowd, but if you're being serious, that's just idiotic. If they intended for either Revan or the Exile to be male or light side, they wouldn't have spent all the time, effort, and money making gender and alignment specific dialogue, characters (in KOTOR 2's case) or female portraits.

Does it bloody matter?

It matters about as much as anything discussed on this forum.

Personally, I agree with you. There is no officially cannon Revan or Exile. However....

In the Chronicles a mistake was apparently made by one of the writers (though I've never seen this pointed out) that clearly points Revan out as a male. I'm not saying this makes it cannon but the truth is that it seems that Obsidian Entertainment at least unofficially views Revan as a man.

I concur

People laugh when I say that I think a jellyfish is one of the most beautiful things in the world. What they don't understand is, I mean a jellyfish with long, blond hair.

Well, Revan is in my mind EITHER the "long" brown haired guy with the prominant forehead. Or the one with the shaved head and the scar.

No other face looks remotely like a "Revan" to me.

Also, all the other Revan heads appear numerous times on people who aren't Revan throughout KotOR II... so... you know. I think its obvious which ones *aren't* official.

Though there are a lot of heads that LOOK like the "long" brown haired head (usually in kolto tanks), but aren't.

Clearly Revan and Exile were both male, and both lightsided. (although i will admit, the female exile does seem a better story as far as atton is concerned)

but its offical that they were both male lightside, as for their faces im still not sure, i cant decide between my avatar, long haired white guy, or the white scar guy for revan.

the exile is pretty much either the jesus face or the bald guy (like the offcial site suggests)

if u guys still dont believe me then...

and also the general consensus on all the forums ive been to is that they were both lightside male, again if u dont believe me....

In the beginning there was Kreia, the historian for the Jedi and a Master of no small skill. She took on an apprentice, a very promising child with immense potential in the force, named Revan. She trained the child to knighthood and then returned to her duties, amassing all the knowledge of the Jedi and the Sith. Knowledge, however, is power, and power corrupts. During her work she began to see things about the Jedi that she despised: arrogance, apathy, and cowardice. Before long her feelings became known and she was brought before the council. Their decision: exile. Kick the would-be Sith out before she could corrupt the young Jedi with her venomous teachings. Embittered by the betrayal of her own people, Kreia left and became a Sith. Darth Traya, the cunning master of deception and manipulation.

Then there was the Mandalorians. An honor-obsessed, clan-based society of warriors, the Mandalorians believed the greatest honor was to a true challenge. In other words, they would never be satisfied until they got their assets handed to them. Someone got the ear of Mandalore, the chief of the whole society, and convinced them that the only place he'd find such an enemy was in the Republic - the sprawling mass of planets was in fact a sleeping giant, waiting only for a wake up call to rise and go into battle.

The idea of fighting such a giant appealed to Mandalore, and he roused his people up for war against the Republic. They snuck up, got into position, then sprung their sneak attack on the Republic, expecting an enraged military powerhouse to stir into defense. Finally, a real challenge! What they got instead was silence. The Republic couldn't afford to commit troops to a handful of outer rim worlds under attack by some clan of brigands. The Jedi refused to act either, at the direction of their council

Infuriated at being ignored, Mandalore tried to force them to fight him by waging a war of conquest throughout the outer rim, commiting atrocities just to get the Republic to come back at them with everything they had. Finally, they succeeded, though not the way they intended - they had managed to piss off Revan.

Revan had a strong sense of right and wrong, and to him, there was absolutely nothing right about sitting in a circle and talking while people - innocent people the Jedi are supposed to defend - get slaughtered by a merciless enemy. Revan decides that, if the Coucil wasn't going to act, he was going to act for them. He gathered as many Jedi as he could convince, and set off to the outer rim to take worlds back from the Mandalorians. Among those that followed were his own pupil, Malak, and another promising young Jedi with exceptional leadership potential.

One of the first worlds they reached on their Take Back the Rim campaign was Taris. While they were there, they crushed the Mandalorians and earned the respect and admiration of a certain young Cathar girl

Revan took quickly to the concepts of acceptable loss and sacrificial pawns. He chose battles he knew he couldn't win and manipulated things, sacrificing a whole town, maybe even a whole country for the sake of preserving a world. He also came to appreciate assassination - a single well placed death could do more damage than an armada. He built a combat droid to perform this function, knowing full well that droids were never expected to be sentient or decietful... they'd never see it coming. One day, while conversing with Malak, this "Hunter /Killer" robot made an honest comment. The wording of the comment amused Revan to such a degree that he reprogrammed it to use that wording consistently. The word soon became HK-47's catch phrase: "meatbag". Sadly, the HK droid was soon lost during a failed assassination attempt. It was found by a Mandalorian soldier, and his story from that point became matter of macabre legend and comedic gold.

With Revan at the helm, the tide of battle turned swiftly in the Republic's favor. Believing the Mandalorians to be on the ropes, he decided to finish things with one final blow. He formed two fleets out of all the ships he could muster. One fleet would go to the last great Mandalorian stronghold, Malechor V, and try to egg the Mandalorians into one last fight. When they took the bait, Revan would swoop in with a second, rested fleet and wipe the enemy out in one fell swoop. You know what they say, however, about the best laid plans...

Mandalore had a similar plan. He engaged Revan's fleet outside of the system. After a spectacular battle, Revan finally met Mandalore in combat and won. When asked why they did it, Mandalore's response was not what Revan had anticipated: they were lead to do it, on the prompting of a mysterious third party. Revan took Mandelore's mask as his prize and claimed victory over the Mandalorians, though he was secretly troubled by Mandelore's revelation.

Unfortunately, things weren't going so well for the second fleet. Even without Mandalore, even though they were fatigue and battered from the constant warfare, the Mandalorians were an impressive threat, and it was all the tattered fleet could do to give as well as they got. Looking out from a command carrier, Revan's trusted general watched as both sides fought eachother to extinction, listening as he watched to an Iridonian tech officer described a weapon he had developed that could finally grant him vengence against the monsters who slaughtered his world. There was nothing else that could be done. With a grim nod, the general sentanced everyone - friend and foe alike - to die on that forboding rock.

The general's force sensitivity proved his undoing. Witnessing, no creating, death and destruction on such a scale ripped at his psyche, he could hear the screams of the dying through the Force. To save himself from that torture, he subconsciously cut himself off from the Force, blinding himself to the galaxy and to the true scale of the destruction his order caused. The Iridonian who created the weapon never managed to make peace with his actions there, either.

The revelation of Mandalore haunted Revan in the days following the tradgedy at Malechor V. He became obsessed with who would send such a vicious foe after the Republic, and what would happen when they decided to take a more direct approach next time. Even more, he was bothered by the flimsy structure of the Republican forces, and the inactivity of the Jedi. With the war over, everyone would just relax and return to the status quo. Weak. Lazy. Easy prey. The only way Revan could think of to solve this was to start another war. This time, as the enemy.

Revan's logic was simple. Create a base of Force users that could rival the Jedi, create an army that could rival the Republic's, and set them against eachother. The stronger would win, and walk out of it with a stronger force than ever, hopefully even strong enough to handle the unknown foe that awaits them. He sought out his old master, Kreia, and used the teachings of the Sith, and the potential power created by events like Malechor V. With Kreia's help, he was able to use the Star Forge to create such a rival force. But he did no more than that - he feared the Star Forge could corrupt him and destroy his plans. When he returned as Darth Revan, noone was expecting it.

Meanwhile Revan's general returned to face the Jedi Council, a broken Jedi with a dying soul. He expected no mercy and he recieved none, the Council exiled him from the Republic and stripped him of his lightsaber. They were worried and confused by the general's sudden and total disconnection to the Force, and they feared that his presence would ultimately destroy all the Jedi around him. The exiled general set off for parts unknown, scarred by the war, embittered by his treatment at the hands of the Council, and left hollow by his sudden deafness to the Force. He swore off war and people in general, and spent ten years in solitude, allowing his strength and his skill to wane and fade along with the memories he tried to scrub from his mind.

As the general departed in silence for his exile, Revan returned in force. He was as overpowering a force against the Republic as he ever was against the Mandalorians - probably more so, spurred on by disgust for the laziness and cowardice of the Republic and the Jedi. One thing, however, was different. Revan's war was with the military and the Jedi, not the people - he didn't want to destroy the Republic, he wanted to either toughen up its defenders or replace them. As such, he left as much of the infrastructure and resources as he could intact, hoping that whoever won could use them to rebuild an army strong enough to protect them from what was to come. Unfortunately, Revan never predicted Bastila's battle meditation - nor Malak's betrayal. Just when it seemed everything was falling into place, he was suddenly dethroned and Malak took command of Revan's forces.

Malak, however, was unaware of his master's true intentions. He believed Revan's campaign had always been a battle for revenge and conquest, that his master simply lacked the intestinal fortitude to draw on the Star Forge's full potential. He carried that campaign on with zeal and intensity - if not with the grace and elegance Revan had displayed. He cranked the Star Forge up as far as it would go, and then used this overpowering force to wipe out any sign of resistance or threat he came across.

Malak never imagined that his late master was, at that very moment, being reborn

If you finished KotOR 1, then you already know the story of how the Jedi Council mindwiped Revan, and how this newly reborn Revan tracked down the Star Forge and removed both it and Malak from existance, so I won't bore you with that story. Where things start to get interesting, however, is in the year that followed.

Whether Revan had rejoined the Jedi or taken over the Sith doesn't really matter. Either way, the old Revan was starting to re-emerge and the new Revan was trying to make sense of it all. Memories of a life he had believed to be somebody else's began to surface, along with an overpowering sense of dread, including the final battle with Mandalore. Once again, he tracked down Kreia in search of answers. Ultimately the leads drew him back to Korriban, where he made a horrifying discovery: the "Sith" he had been dealing with were Sith in name only, a name taken to honor the extinct race that had originally lived there.

Only the Sith *weren't* extinct. They were alive and well, and running a massive empire out in uncharted space. And when they discover that some fledgeling Republic has been defacing their outposts, they are going to be pissed.

Revan had to do something, but he wasn't sure what. He finally decided that his only option was to go into uncharted space, find and learn about the true Sith, and stop them any way he could. From what he'd already uncovered about the true Sith, however, he knew he had to go alone. Any ties he brought with him would be corrupted by the Sith and used against him. To bring anyone with him was to condemn both himself and them to ultimate failure. He explained his plan to Kreia, and then vanished into the unknown.

For her part, Kreia was enamored with her former student. Revan was a study in the purest form of grey. Unlike the Jedi or the Sith, Revan wasn't bound to any given code: he could be both light and dark as he needed to be - a champion one moment and a villain the next. He was able to rise above such simple black and white definitions, and for someone like Kreia, who hated the back-stabbing, self-interested Sith as much as she despised the unbending, arrogant Jedi, this was a rare and incredibly precious quality. She did everything she could for his sake until she managed to find another with the same quality Revan had: the Exile. Through his actions in the Mandalorian War, he proved himself capable of not just being the knight with a shining sword, riding in to save the day, but also of vicious acts of destruction the likes of which can't even be remembered within the Republic. The Exile was that same shade of pure grey, and Kreia loved him for it.

By the time the Exile arrived on the scene, Kreia had lost everything. She had formed a new breed of Sith using what she had learned on Malechor V, a class of abhoretions that used wounds in the Force to draw power from anyone they fought. Two of her prized pupils, Nihilus and Sion, had grown tired of her inaction, her secrecy, and her obsession over her first pupil. With their combined abilities, Nihilus and Sion were able to strip her of everything: her rank, her power, even the only place she had ever dared to call home after leaving the Jedi. Broken, powerless, and very much alone, she escaped her home in the ship Revan had left behind, the Ebon Hawk.

Then fortune smiled upon her, as she limped along on her exile. She was drawn to a disabled Republican ship, the Harbinger, drawn because she could feel a wound in the force carried within it. She brought the Exile aboard her ship, unaware that she also brought a droid with her. As she turned to flee, however, Sion recognized the wound, and his former master, and he turned the Harbinger's guns against her. She escaped, but she was mortally wounded, and she forced herself into a trance in order to survive. As the disabled ship hurtled through space, it was only through the valiant efforts of a resident astromech that Ebon Hawk even managed to make it in one piece. And his reward? An ion pulse to his core from a stowaway assassin droid.

As Kreia lie alseep in the Paragus morgue, struggling to awaken herself, the Exile was held in a drugged stupor in the Kolto tanks. Kreia's subconscious cries to wake herself up rippled out through the force and caught in the Exile's wound, forging a Force bond between them. In spite of the drugs still running through his system, the Exile heard the call and awoke. The kolto tank immediately responded, draining and dumping him out onto the floor, where he slowly came to. When he went into the morgue to grab a miner's plasma torch, his Force bond to Kreia was finally able to rouse her as well.

While Kreia was as confused by the Force bond as the Exile was, she knew an opportunity when it struck her. A Jedi, forced to learn to live without the Force, not only had developed a Force bond with her, but also possessed a Force wound - a very, very deep Force wound. As they struggled to escape the Paragus Station, Kreia came to one conclusion: the Exile was her one and only chance. A chance for survival, a chance for revenge against her fellow Sith, and one last chance to forge a Force user as perfect as Revan was.

As she began to train the Exile in reawakening his connection to the Force, Kreia began to recognize the same greyness in him that had attracted her to Revan, and all her intentions flew out the window. She was caught. This was no longer about her, about her survival or her revenge, it was about him. It was *all* about him. The only thing that mattered to her after that point was making him as strong and complete as he could ever become, to make him into another Revan. To this point, she manipulated any event she could to force the Exile into weeding out all those little things that still tormented him. His resentment towards Atris, his bitterness towards the Council that exiled him, the sins he committed on Dxun and Malechor V, the Sith Lords that hunted him, his hatred for the Mandalorians... every chip on his shoulder, Kreia arranged things so that the Exile would have to knock it off.

Finally, she forced him to face her. It was to be as much a crucible for her as it was to be for him. She wanted to believe that she could do anything - she would do anything - for his sake, even at the cost of her own life. With one final betrayal, she hoped to free the Exile of all that held him back: his doubts, his friends, and her. It was her hope that her sacrifice would be the final key to creating another Revan, another "perfect" Force user that could rise above the will of the Force and choose his own destiny. That was her final gift, a gift she paid for with her life.

After that, nothing really matters, does it? At least in my game, every one of the Exile's friends has faced their own demons and come out stronger. Mandelore has gone from being a refugee mercenary to becoming the champion of his people, from being an enemy of the Republic to being its closest ally in the direst of circumstances. Mira has concluded her troubles with Hanharr, and has finally found the peace she never thought she'd have. Brianna has gone from being the last of the Handmaidens to taking her master's place as Historian. Atton has faced his past and been forgiven by the last of the Jedi. The sins of Bao Dur have finally been atoned for, through his efforts on Malechor V. And Visas... Visas not only made peace with herself, but her eyes were finally opened to beauty that Nihilus had blinded her to.

And are the Jedi now gone? No. His friends, Force Sensitives drawn to him through his wound, are meant to be a new breed of Jedi, a breed untainted by the apathy and arrogance of Masters past. From the destruction of the order comes the rebirth of the order. Just as Revan had intended.

Long post, but unless it was created by anyone from LucasArts affiliates, Obsidian during production of TSL, or Bioware during production of KOTOR than it is not official.

Also, regarding the faces that is with every possible portrait. If you choose any portrait all the other portraits or many of them will appear as various non-talking NPCs in the game. This counts for all female Revans and all male Revans, for all female Exiles and all male Exiles.

Furthermore, the reason they used the bald guy for the poster is because they had to use somebody. They couldn't simply show all the possible Exiles on the poster and they weren't going to make a couple dozen different posters just because some people would complain. So no, the poster is not an official thing.

I mean, come on, it shows a male Exile but has the disciple in both posters :p. That by itself shows the poster has no relevance to the storyline. Sorry.

if you play through kotor2 enough times u gradually come to realise that my post is all in there, and i think thats how the story goes. everyones entiltles to their own opinion thou, i just think that story i posted is a good one, and goes well with the kotor storyline.

and yeh, there is no offical Exile or Revan face, but it would seem that everywhere you go, they use the same face for the exile, and thats gotta give him an advantage :p

yeah they had to use somebody, but there has to be a reason they picked that face, even subcontiously

yeah im getting way too much into this.

i still think Calemyr explination ties up the story well.

(Because the male light side option is considered canonical by Lucasfilm, we will refer to the Exile as a male)

NB: In the sequel to Knights of the Old Republic, Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, both endings are left open as possibilities, the course of events after Malak's death being nearly the same regardless of Revan's choice. Despite this, Lucasfilm has stated that the true, historically canonical ending is the light side choice.

so if that aint true, then lucasfilm/lucasarts may wanna sue that website i posted, otherwise i believe them :)

If such a statement was to be made, Lucasfilm wouldn't be the branch making it. Their only interests are in the movies. I suspect that what you quoted is just some fanboy making stuff up.

Even if George Lucas, or some other high-up at Lucasarts did say that, so what? Sorry, but they allowed the characters to be variable gendered and they allowed multiple endings. Until or unless there's another installment in the KOTOR saga that firmly establishes these things about it's predecessors, Lucasarts has no say over the gender of the characters or the outcome of the stories.

And no, fan consensus doesn't matter.

If you want to think of Revan as a light side male, that's fine. I tend to as well, but think it because it's what you want to think, not because it's what you were told to think. You were born with your own mind, use it.

They do have some kind of power: The kind of power to put whatever content they want into their films, books and games. However, that power does not extend to how we, the fans, are supposed to think about those products. The content they put in allowed for the player characters to be male or female, and allowed for multiple endings as well as choices that affect the storyline throughout the game. What they say about that content is irrelevant, what matters is that they put it in.

And no, fan consensus doesn't matter.

the whole basis of games and film is what people think about them, otherwise they wouldnt be succsessful, so yeah it does matter

Yeah, because there's such a strong consensus among Star Wars fans that the prequels are great films deserving of their financial success.

Sorry, but the fact of the matter is that the opinions of fanboys means nothing to these companies.

Proof. now.

Honestly though, WHY would Obsidian give you the choice of making Revan or Exile female/male/lightside/darkside/whichever face potrait if they were "biased" to making them *Insert alignment and Gender*? IMO, Revan and Exile are who you make them out to be, otherwise they would have said straight out that the exile/revan was ____.

They give you a choice. There is no definite answer.

When I first created a character in TSL and I saw that Jesus option, I started laughing my head off.

The first thing that came to mind was someone in the Art Dept. at Obsidian created it as a joke and then pushed it through for a reaction.

Everyone else laughed further up the chain and pushed it through.

Somehow I think it was an internal prank to begin with. (chuckle)

No offense to Jesus.

Can't say I do either, but even if they got their information from Lucasarts, it really doesn't matter. What's official in Star Wars is what's in the movies, on the pages of the novels/comics, and yes, what's in the games. What the powers that be have to say about it is irrelevant. Or rather, it's relevant only up until the product is finalized and released to the public. After that, they have no say in how the fans are to interpret it.

I mean, if George Lucas walked up to you, and told you that Luke Skywalker was a 3' tall purple elephant, would you believe him? Everything in the films suggests that he's a blonde, white human man of average height, yet this hypothetical Lucas insists that he's a 3' tall purple elephant. Which do you believe?

Until or unless KOTOR 3 establishes the gender and alignment of Revan and the Exile, any and all combinations are equally correct.

Truth is, the studios are biased towards lightside males because that's what the movies are about. However, this doesn't mean a thing so long as the KOTOR series allows the player to choose the endings of the previous games.

Until they pull the Jedi Outcast trick on us there's no real official ending.

Though, I do have to say, the lightside ending at least, male or not, makes the most sense at least for Revan considering that the Star Forge is destroyed in the cannon universe one way or another (databank).

i used the mullet man for revan, the same face for the "fallen jedi" at the end of the game fighting malek, which was pretty stupid

For the exile i used the spanish looking guy with long hair
