deganawida
..and I could use some suggestions. I've thought about upgrading my PC and maybe getting a game. I've got an Athlon XP 2400, 384 MB RAM, and a GeForce 2. I can probably afford to upgrade my RAM to 512 and still have money for a new game, but I'm not sure. Don't think that I can upgrade my VC significantly for less than $100, but if I can I'd be interested in what type to get. For games I thought about KotOR2 PC (beaten it several times on X-Box, but it was just too addictive) or maybe even WoW (which would be my first foray into MMORPGs). Of course, I could always buy some new books, but there hasn't been much out in recent years to pique my interest, save some new DnD books which I already have. Or, I could buy some DVDs, and have something to watch. Or, I could buy a cheap TV so that I can play with my X-Box or PS2 and my wife can watch movies. I dunno. It's been so long since I have had money to just blow on anything that I don't know what to do with it (currently, all my money goes to bills, food, gas, and diapers). Seriously, I could use suggestions and explanations as to why whatever is being suggested is a good idea. Thanks in advance!

deganawida
Good suggestion, but I have other money going into the bank. This is going to be payback for me spending all my gift money and spare money on necessities, while letting my wife blow all of her spending money. I plan on enjoying it, barring any unforeseen accidents (which do tend to occur whenever I have spare money).

Go for it, dude! "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta

Rosbjerg
"buy a present for yer wife" = best advice so far! but better yet, buy me a decent dinner! I've been living on rice for the last fortnight .. :'( seriously though, when I get some extra cash I just go downtown and look around .. follow my instincts and buy whatever my intuition tells me! it usually turns out to be a good investment .. Child of Flame
Why such a good CPU in such an otherwise POS build (no offense). Your CPU's definitely still got legs, I'm running a 2500 right now, and it does more than I need (overclocked of course). Depending on the model of GeForce 2 (how much Video RAM does it actually have) I'd go with putting as much money into system RAM as you can, preferably of the best quality you can find. If it's got say...64 MB Video RAM (A.K.A. the crap models), then go for the ATI card suggested earlier.
deganawida
Why such a good CPU in such an otherwise POS build (no offense). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bought a Presario from Wal-Mart about 18 months ago for $523 (all I could afford at the time). Came with the processor, 128 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, some kind of onboard S3 video card, and a CD-RW. I took my GeForce 2 out of my old computer, stuck it in the new one, and when I had some free cash bought a stick of 256 DDR.
Sarjahurmaaja.
With so little to spend, if you're intending to buy new speakers for your computer, better go with stereo than 5.1. That way you'll get at least two half decent ones instead of 6 crappy ones. 9/30 -- NEVER FORGET!

draakh_kimera
Keep saving money until you got 250 bucks, go buy yourself a speedboard and some saftey gear, and, finally, go bomb some hills! Nothing, well, not much, beats going at speeds of up to (or over) 45mph on a longboard!
