What a terrible test. I would laugh if I weren't so tired. HAHAHA! I'm laughing anyhow.

The questions are absolutely horrid... and not by accident. The questions are intentionally geared for a left of center response.

How about a test in which the first question is something like:

"Do you believe that all material possessions should be taken from every individual in society and distributed evenly among the masses?"

The very nature of the question colors the result. That's why questions should be as neutral as possible.

Yeah, really. There is a reason that most people are getting results saying they're liberals, and it isn't because they all are liberals.

Ya there should be more right wingish questions like, "Do you think rich people should be exempt from taxes, because they spend more money then everyone else and really drive the economy."

"Do you think that pro-lifers should be able to kill abortion clinic doctors?"

"Shouldn't christianity be shoved down everyones throat in evrything thats state or nationally funded?"

"If you president went to war over a certain pretense say WMD and then it came out that they had lied to you about there existance, would you still follow him blindly?"

"Since PBS or NPR can't really be manipulated by individual corporate means, or even faith based organizations, do we really have any use for them?"

"Should people who like Alice in Wonderland by C.S. Lewis be killed?"

"Wasn't blacklisting really a good idea?"

you are correct. besides, there were several questions that i did not agree with the answers... i mean, there were some that i either had no opinion on (not an option) or felt the answer had a "well, it depends upon circumstances" portion that need to be addressed. not everything is black and white, even though i may preach as much.

Apparently, we've found the person who wrote the questions for the survey in question. He's even come here to share some new questions he intends to put into the next survey. I'm sure we'll get an equally legitimate outcome for that survey as well.

Sorry, but before you attribute an author's name to a book, make sure that you have the right author. Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Clive Staples Lewis wrote "The Chronicles of Narnia", The Screwtape Letters, and other works. The first took pictures of naked preteen girls, the latter was a highly respected author and professor. Biiiiiggg difference.

For some reason as of late I seem to be making alot of mistakes like that lately, maybe remembering the terror the Jabberwokkie visited upon me as a child was too much. As the actual statement I stole it from an article in Harpers where rent a center lost a class action law suit for making managers take this absurd test, I believe the article was called Inquire Within.

As for my other quetsions they're fairly obvious enough that my 6 yr old niece could infer them after watching a half hour of Bill O'Riley and his constant references to "bomb throwers"

You know, almost everyone's a communist if you ask the right questions. Yet almost everyone says "I hate communists!".. I suspect a lot of people don't know what it means to believe in communism. Communism is a good system that is easily abused by ruthless people. If everyone had equally high moral standards, communism would probably work. In a perfect world..

When I lived in a dorm I used to annoy my right-wing dorm mates by asking them all these leading questions (where I knew how they would answer) and then silently show them the definition of a communist. When they realized they'd answered the questions "the communist way" they almost started crying. At least they all became very angry. Great fun back in the day!

The same argument, mkreku, can be used for true anarchy. However, the problem with all of these ideological political systems (of which anarchy and communism are the most famous) is that they all require the same levels of commitment, maturity, and participation from each member of a state/society. Such, unfortunately, will never happen.

Yeah, you can lead most people down any political path if you ask the questions right. And most couldn't really tell you what a communist or an anarchist is.

no, communism is not a good system. it is not inherently evil in and of itself, but it does deny individual rights and, it does lie by convincing its people that "someday the government won't be needed." i'd say that makes it dishonest at best...

I can somewhat understand the idea of the "lack of competition" arguement against communism, but calling it evil?

Communism doesn't have government. You're thinking socialism. Communism is just Anarchy with laws. A communist revolution calls for a socialist transitionary period, which is where communism fails. Here it is the government's job to prepare the population for communism, but the government at that point is usually corrupt and is just trying to hold on to its power.

Well never know what anything would be like in the Marxist worker's eutopia, because it never has existed. The clostest thing was briefly in Spain before Franco got his facist backing, but in reality that situation more presented anarchy in a favorable light. One of the best books I've ever read was Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell really gives a very vivid and as far as I can tell an accurate account of this brief time in human history

Actually I have no problem with communism, if you could get rid of the inefficiency, I think it'd work far better than the virus emulating system the fake-democratic enviromentally damaging capitalist free market system the US has.

I'm with taks in thinking it's a terrible system, although I shy away from the term evil. Socialism is not the answer.

Still, the survey does show that most folks agree on broad issues. The details throw eveything askew.
