January 1, 200521 yr http://www.fileplanet.com/betacenter/guildwars/ If you don't already have an account on fileplanet, register, and you get a free passcode for the Jan 7-9 beta weekend. A good deal for those who haven't had the opportunity to try the game yet, and a better deal for those of us who already love the game to bits and just want mooooore. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
January 1, 200521 yr Hmm, that's the weekend before school starts again. Thanks for the heads up, I might have to try this.
January 1, 200521 yr Maybe if I can find some friends to play with. I didn't like it as much playing with random people back during the E3 beta last year. But maybe I'll give it another go either way, it was pretty fun. EDIT: Gah, I have *no* willpower. I just downloaded the client and got my passcode. "
January 1, 200521 yr EDIT: Gah, I have *no* willpower. I just downloaded the client and got my passcode. " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ha, same here. We can be friends if you don't find anyone to play with before next weekend. I only played during the first beta, for a total of 5 mins or so, so this is all new to me. I have a lot of reading to do!
January 1, 200521 yr Author The beta weekend is free. You are, after all, beta testing. Once the full game comes out, it'll be like any other game, you buy the game at retail price. No monthly fees, no hidden fees. And yes, the game in indeed infinitely better with people you know. Perhaps that's why I love the game so much. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
January 1, 200521 yr Yeah, I won't do it unless there's someone I know that's doing it. I've made the mistake of playing with people in general on online games. I would, for example, trust you all. Vaguely. Fnord.
January 1, 200521 yr Hm...maybe we could all give it a try together next weekend. Would be better than playing with total strangers, right?
January 1, 200521 yr In that case, I guess I'll try it. But I get to beat on Hades first, mmkay? Fnord.
January 1, 200521 yr And yes, the game in indeed infinitely better with people you know. Perhaps that's why I love the game so much. Hades actually saying good things about a game? This I have to see for myself. - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.
January 1, 200521 yr Damn avatar robbers... I knew it was too weird to be true. :"> - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.
January 1, 200521 yr Damn avatar robbers... I knew it was too weird to be true. :"> <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had exactly the same thing..Very confusing when you think you see Hades praising a game...
January 1, 200521 yr Well, I hope at least good old Hades plans to join us for a little rompin'. Otherwise all this scheme will bring me is ruins. Fnord.
January 2, 200521 yr Well, I don't want to get beaten up. :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't worry, you've changed. . .Nobody here would beat you up. Besides, you can pose to be anyone from the forums. Kidding. Kidding. Fnord.
January 3, 200521 yr Author Heh. I don't know how many hours I've spent discussing with fellow guild members about character builds and how best to complement each other, tactucs, etc. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
January 3, 200521 yr I can't say I've tried Guild Wars. Then again, I can't say that I want to. Combat looks too simple, and the game doesn't seem to have much of a point other than free, online play. I'd rather play a mud or wait for NWN:2.
January 3, 200521 yr Author I for one happen to really enjoy the way the classes complement each other, and how collaboration between players can decide the victor in a big battle. I love the combat mechanics, actually. Everything is relatively well-balanced. I'm especially fond of the magic system Simplistic, perhaps, but very effective. As the devs themselves have said, though, the game isn't really as much based on levels or equipment as it is on player 'skill'. I play this game for the same reason I would play a good team-based FPS. Satisfaction through cooperation. Nothing a true MMORPG offers really has anything that *I* personally would care about to make the monthly fee warranted. I don't care whether there are 100 or 10,000 people on the server I'm on. I wouldn't want to speak to 99% of them anyway, most likely. The rest, leveling, exploration, item collection, getting jobs, all that is pointless to me. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
January 3, 200521 yr They've also said that post-launch there will be expansions to purchase that unlock higher levels, and more powerful items. Considering that the main draw for this game is that it's free, I don't know how free the game will really be.
