Expand Both Hamas military and political wings have presence in West Bank and they actively commit strikes against Israel from West Bank, but they aren't in control in West Bank and their support there is many times lesser than it is in Gaza, but thousands come to celebrate and welcome Hamas soldiers that Israel freed to West Bank in exchange of hostages in Gaza (with caveat that Israel quite freely names Palestinians as members of Hamas when they prison them). Also many Israel's actions in West Bank don't have anything to do with Hamas, but are just Israel taking more land to themselves. But overall hostage taking by Hamas has caused worst tragedy in history of Israel and Palestine and has lead more deaths than all previous conflicts together and current Israeli leadership has welcomed the opportunity with open arms. 1

Expand Yes thats basically what I think. Even though there is no guarantee that Israel will not continue the war once the hostages are released it will change the US views and how Trump understands a permanent ceasefire Its going to be even harder for Israel to justify continuing the war once the hostages are released "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Expand Saw one theory is thamt Hamas doesn't have some of them, sort of a black humour in that. Other than that is strange for sure, if the war resumes we're going to see Palestinians on the move again and all which I guess is bad PR for Israel, not like they care though especially with a more obedient US. Zoraptor Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Bad PR for Israel: not with the press coverage we're all getting. Israel raping an orthopaedic surgeon to death- who was kidnapped every bit as much as any Israeli hostage was- with a broomhandle doesn't even rate a mention while skinny hostages is literally the end of the world. But starving Palestinian babies... that's fine because some people voted for Hamas 17 years ago. Expand The biggest death toll caused by Israel's creation is still the Lebanese Civil War. Unless Israel managed to kill more than 150k Palestinians, which is a possibility considering Israel's obvious strategy was to kill anyone counting so the toll stalled out despite the attacks never letting up.
BruceVC Posted February 13 Posted February 13 https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/13/middleeast/hamas-hostage-release-israel-gaza-intl/index.html Some good news, it looks like Hamas will release some hostages on Saturday Hopefully the war reigniting doesn't happen? BruceVC Posted March 5 Posted March 5 https://www.euronews.com/2025/03/05/arab-leaders-endorse-egypts-53bn-plan-to-rebuild-gaza-countering-trumps-proposal The Arab League has finally agreed on something, they are supporting Egypt's $53 billion plan to rebuild Gaza and ensure the Palestinians can remain Hamas will not be allowed to govern this new region so the US should accept it and then Israel has rejected it but that might change Its early days but at least we have a realistic idea created by Arab states outside of Trumps " Gaza Riviera " "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Zoraptor Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 Israel caught killing 15 medical workers. Well, it's a pretty obvious planned ambush/ execution really rather than a killing; vehicle left in middle of the road like it's an emergency, waiting until everyone has got out to open fire and coordinated firing. Not a single circumstance as the Israelis repeatedly claimed as they sped ran the Narcissist's Prayer. Actually no, the last is unfair. The Israeli Foreign Minister wasn't technically lying at least when he said "the IDF did not randomly attack an ambulance" since they deliberately attacked multiple. Kind of telling that even with that sort of evidence it only "appears" to contradict Israel's evidence, according to the BBC- Israeli evidence was absolutely explicitly that the ambulances were not properly identified and had no lights on. Ho hum. (At least one eerie- well, not really- similarity to the new Syrian government led by indicted war criminal and terrorist Al Jolani Al Sharaa (note, they are the same person. You probably wouldn't know from the press coverage though) sending sanctioned ethnic cleansers into ethnic minority areas and being astounded at their actions- the Israeli unit involved has been repeatedly accused of extra judicial killings etc by Israeli rights groups. At least this time they weren't dumb enough to post it to tiktok. Shame all the disciplining went into telling them not to publicise their war crimes rather than not to commit them though. By the way, noted orthopaedic surgeon Adnan al Bursh's body still hasn't been released by Israel despite him definitely not dying under torture)
