Probably buggy. The pirate encounter zones also stuck around on my map forever even though I hunted them down. :shrugz:

Same for me. And those annoying question mark zones about Endless...

Just hit chapter 5 so naturally it's time to start over instead of finishing the game. Thinking of going iconoclast with dual pistols this time around and giving Argenta a sniper rifle instead of bolters. Last game was a dogmatic psyker for the helm that gives you +dogmatic rank psy rating and the scarf for another +2 and the item that gives psy rating number of attacks.

Who am I kidding, I'll probably end up a psyker again, maybe force sword psyker or something.

our jae was dual wield deadly... until the most recent patch. we were having her use overcharging plasma pistols which were great as long as party members stayed a square distant.  gunslinger jae were almost as effective as our argenta sniper for dps. 'course now jae is as likely to self immolate as kill heretics and xenos.

*sad face*

am gonna have difficulty doing anything but sniper for argenta in future runs as she makes early game encounters a breeze, and early game is, as is typical for crpgs, the most challenging content.

quit on our officer and started over with a dogmatic, fortress world, ministorum priest leaning hard into flame weapons. is kinda over-the-top fun, but am definite doing iconoclast next so am able to keep a few more party members alive past the early portions o' the game.

HA! Good Fun!

That is probably the weakest point of the game. I kept all the companions around to the very end of the game on my Dogmatic run, but only because this is a video game and keeping companions around makes sense if you want to experience most of the game's content, not because it makes sense for a dogmatic character.

Actually, well... (spoiler about Yrliet):

Spoiler

It makes no sense at all to keep her around past chapter three, not even the goodliest goody two shoes Iconoclast character in the Warhammer 40k universe would let that slide.

On a separate point I got an achievement for resolving 10 combat scenarios peacefully. One of the few achievements that triggered correctly...

first time we played wotr, we kept camellia in our party through her entire story arc. our certainty we were watching a trainwreck occur in slow motion were not enough to overcome our completionism.

our dogmatic playthrough o' rogue trader is an almost unique exception to the manner in which we typical play crpgs with joinable companions, but we just couldn't bring our self to suffer xenos or those who has already succumb to warp madness. purifying fire is our solution when confronting the enemies o' humanity and agents o' the archenemy.

Why not give Argenta an exploding bolter that does 1k a hit and can do a full mag burst. Also the stub gun on her is so funny, @majestic was right it does so much in a burst that dmg doesn't matter, but it still did 300 a hit... I cannot believe I couldn't get the zealot rank, that is what I get for killing the dark elf... I was missing a couple of points... Overall I liked the game, but it's painfully obvious that they were rushed and had to cut a lot of the content short. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the game could have used some balancing... I think most of my companions could clear fights in 1 round, it's just that Argenta did so easily.

Was anyone able to reach max level by the end of the game?

Unless there were significant changes in some of the patches, it is almost impossible to reach either the max character level or zealot on anything but dogmatic, and even for dogmatic you really need to take every possible option. The convictions really need some tuning.

The Calibrated Heavy Stubber is especially ridiculous when you combine it with the main character's dogmatic IV ability that just makes the target ignore any damage reduction, and you did not even get the full fun out of the Compensator Gloves by having Argenta as Bounty Hunter. Compensator Gloves scale the rate of fire bonus off the character's Ballistic Skill, which goes up with each shot on an Arch-Militant. Worse because of the bugged interaction with Firearm Mastery, which makes every single shot give you one rank of Versatility. Not sure if that was fixed yet.

Still mostly used the Heavy Bolter on her because it did not matter and bolters are appropriate for Argenta, and they look and sound better than the stubbers. :p

I was missing something ridiculous like 10-12 points to reach zealot on Iconoclast, I assumed there was a side quest with the dark elf that gave me those points. Guess not... To make matters even worse they tease you with a sniper in the last mission that boosts dmg if you are zealot Iconoclast.

Next time probably. Although doing 1k dmg per shot is fun too. Bounty Hunter stacks a lot of crit damage especially with an item that marks the highest difficulty enemy as prey and doubles the bonus you get from it, plus you can use another bounty hunter to mark more targets as prey. On the other hand, since They Shall Weep scales the rend dmg off BS I guess the Arch-Militant would not be far off with that bug.

I mostly used the regular bolter on her, I found it cleared mobs quicker.

Just killed my entire party with pain channeling overflow damage. Something tells me that's not supposed to happen.

E: curious if anyone knows if the skills that block burst damage to your party work with all AoE attacks? I guess I can test it with Toybox tomorrow... not that I expect it to help with the bugged pain channeling, just got me curious.

new patch

officer got nerfed bigley. most notable--

Bring It Down! can no longer be applied to the same ally more than once per round;
Officers no longer generate Momentum multiple times a turn by giving bonus turns to their allies;

edit: possible the most significant officer nerf is the finest hour iv change-- all non-attack powhaz o' the character targeted by finest hour now cost one less ap. previous, each kill resulted in a refund o' one ap and one mp (capped by the officer's fel bonus.)

...

am so back to the drawing board on a few o' our builds.

on the up side, lasting impression works after being patched and revel in slaughter provides described stacking bonuses.

is an area of effect damage adjustment based on intelligence, but soldiers can take a talent which allows 'em to replace intelligence with their demolitions score for the aoe damage. luckily our melta guy went with demolitions, but...

HA! Good Fun!

camaraderie is busted. as we noted in a previous post, you always got credit for being next to at least one ally, and according to patch notes it seems the talent holder was counting themselves as an ally.

now? am not sure how to explain the numbers post patch, but we sure ain't getting the described bonuses.

edit: *eye roll* the error for camaraderie looks rather straightforward-- 'stead o' adding +1 for self as was the case pre patch, now the camaraderie math is shorting you by one. four adjacent allies counts as three. one adjacent ally counts as zero.

Trying to wait for the first expansion or whatever they're calling it to start a new game. Maybe I'll go finish one of my abandoned runs... or boot up Wrath.

In a slightly similar boat... waiting for the GotY version before buying it 😝

Does the story remain grimdark throughout the game or gets anyhow more optimistic? The options for the first chapter (and their outcomes from the wiki) were not particularly inspiring.

I thought it an appropriate reply to the question of having a hopeful story set in the Warhammer 40000 universe. One might as well ask for warm ice cream or dry water. :p

Edit: For clarification, I am aware that it is possible to create hot "ice", i.e. solid water at room temperatures or well above that.
