sniggy Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 has there ever been a superhero rpg? can't remember. it'd be something though. pick your powers, create your costume, your secret ID and off you go. join up with other superheros... ...or supervillain of course. or a superhero taken for a supervillain. It's very hard to be polite if you're a cat.

Weiser_Cain Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 It looks nice to me, only problem is I'm diametrically opposed to paying over and over for a game. Yaw devs, Yaw!!! (

There are two superhero RPG's that I know of. Freedom Force is a single-player tactical RPG. You can pick it up for $10, and there is a sequel forthcoming. It also has multiplayer play. City of Hereos is purely action-oriented MMORPG. CoH does not support villians right now, but will in it's upcomming expansion.

CoH does not support villians right now, but will in it's upcomming expansion. There are four that I know of. The two that EnderWiggin mentioned already and: Superhero League of Hoboken: An old RPG, with a few adventure elements baked in, but it's great fun, lots of humour, intriguing story and great characters. Hero X: I've never played this one myself, but I remember it getting "not so good" reviews when it arrived. Who knows, you might like it anyhow? Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
omnimutant Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 yeah, its called City of Heroes...... neevr played it, but it looks boring I fell for that peice of Junk. Actually It was pretty cool during the beta. But definatly Not what I would call an RPG by a long strectch. If anything it's a glorified FPS. See what they did was have this open beta where everything worked great (basicly a server load test) and there were a few bugs to report but nothing major and all worked out fine. Then they Released it. $15 bucks a month , $50 for the game, etc. Now the first week or so everything was fine, then a few people finished the game faster then expected and the Nerf Bat came out. IT has been swinging away ever since. Apparently the Dev's Idea for the game was that someone would pay 15 bucks a month and take like 6 months to get from lvl 1-40 ! The only problem is the only thing to do in the game is kill stuff and lvl. The Joy of leveling really only happens every other lvl since thats when you get a new power. But that wears off fast, and is always subject to the mighty nerf Bat. Now the thing is they have nerfed it so Bad that getting from example lvl 23-24 you need to kill some 18,000 bad guys or so. Not to mention that all the cool fun skills that actually worked are pretty much worthless rendering some charcters stuck and pointless at mid lvl. So combine an extreme Grind with nothing to do but grind (seriously thats all it is), with a really neat character costume designer, ad $15 bucks a month and you get City of Heroes. It had potential to be the Best MMO on the market, but alas it is becomning the worst. I can pretty much bet this will be the Last NCSoft Product I ever touch.

There's also an upcoming X-Men one being developed by Raven if I remember correctly....looked right kewl from what I've seen of it, but alas, it doesn't come out on PC. <edit> Here it is, X-Men Legends, it looks so awesome, but alas, it's only on every system but the PC. RAVEN!!! WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME!!! http://www.x-men-legends.com/ </edit>
Dereth Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 I voted western. I could see a nice CRPG coming out of that genre.
BetaSquad Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Anything but fantasy. I'm starting to get sick of the basic fantasy plot(s), and unless Obsidian can think of anything beyond awsome for fantasy (PS:T-like), I'm going for sci-fi. EnderAndrew Posted June 15, 2004 Author Posted June 15, 2004 On the subject of NC-Soft MMO's coming out. Lineage 2 is pure PvP if you like that. Tabula Rasa looks incredible. All the grind and BS is taken out. They focused on all the "fun" stuff.
Riciky Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Well, watchmen is a little different from your typical superhero comic, but i follow you. I played freedom force and city of heroes, hated them both. Pick up watchmen, it's a great read. I would just like to see a game with a watchmen mood and premise; like an alternate universe, modern setting, something weird, but eerily familiar. LOL look what i found: http://www.paintedland.com/photo/rorschach150.jpg so i guess its not as far-fetched as i thought.
EnderAndrew Posted June 30, 2004 Author Posted June 30, 2004 Is that new Constantine movie based on the Watchman comics?
Bobbin Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Please, no more Fantasy - I want hardcore scifi. And if you absolutely have to, make it post-apocalyptic
ShinIchiro Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Fantasy is good, but it is done far more often than sci-fi. Thus i choose sci.
Diogo Ribeiro Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Is that new Constantine movie based on the Watchman comics? No. The Constantine movie is based (read: very loosely based) on the character John Constantine from the Hellblazer series from DC Comics.
Darque Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 (read: very loosely based) No, that's not accurate. Read: very very very VERY loosely based That's closer ... well... more like a
Diogo Ribeiro Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 (read: very loosely based) No, that's not accurate. Read: very very very VERY loosely based That's closer ... well... more like a Very true, Darque. Unfortunately. At least it doesn't appear to be as bad as Catwoman *shivers*
Darque Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 *shudder* That movie doesn't exist in the world I live in...
Diogo Ribeiro Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Well in Catwoman's defense its not Selna Kyle as the Catwoman, it is her successor, Felicia Price if I remember right. It takes place when Selana Kyle is an old woman. In Catwoman's defense? Hades, the movie has no defense. Try searching online for a leaked portion of the script. It's just trash.
EnderAndrew Posted July 4, 2004 Author Posted July 4, 2004 Everyone who read the script recommended they start over. And Warner Brothers filmed it anyway. Idiots. At least I hear they're junking the J. J. Abrahams script on Superman. I love Alias, but that Superman script may be the worst movie script I've ever read. Ick.
Riciky Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 i looked around, it looks like constantine is based on hellblazer. however aronofsky could be directing a watchmen movie soon. and yes, catwoman looks horrible.
EnderAndrew Posted July 6, 2004 Author Posted July 6, 2004 Arnofsky is a great director. And it's about time he made a new movie. But he got trapped in development hell on the Fountain over the past few years. He needs to find a way to film it, or move on. And Arnofsky is also sitting on the rights to a Batman movie unlikely to happen, and Lone Wolf and Cub. Who knows what his next movie will be?
