  1. This is a feature that would likely... ...be very expensive to implement in terms of man hours. ...be implemented poorly since its never been done well in an isometric rpg ...provide little to no advantage over not having them. Looking at that list, I do not see much of a positive in taking the time and money to implement mounts in this game.
  2. Wow, if thats the case, its not a legal issue I suppose. I stand corrected. I would advise Obsidian against that, however. I would rather they take their profits and make more PE sequels and expansions. That would help both them continue to grow as a company that work independent of the publishing system while also providing us more more quality isometric rpg titles.
  3. I already put forward my pledge. The devs best not decide to use my dollars for another project after the fact. That is misappropriation of funds and I would demand a refund. I pledged my dollars for this project and this project only.
  4. Its best to use less biased, negative languange when making a poll. Instead of thin and wiry vs. solid, I would have framed it functional vs. decorative. Or you could do two separate questions such as: How important is the visual look of the UI to you? How important is the functionality of the UI to you? Give spectrum options at the end of both. Notice I try to keep negative comments out and I attempt to have a sort of parallelism in how I frame questions. You want avoid biased sounding polls or polls that push people one way or the other through suggestion.
  5. Lets not get lost in analogies. They can turn the Mclaren into moped for all I care. Frankly, I don't see anyone convincing anyone else about this. The devs can make up their own minds on this, I think. Ogrezilla: The devs have stated that want to update the graphics and make an edgier, more adult story using their own roleplaying system developed with realtime/pause combat in mind. This is the extent of the "updates" they have explicitly stated. Beyond that they have REPEATEDLY referenced past IE titles they wish to pay homage to. That is what we KNOW. Maybe they will decide to throw in a bunch of new gameplay mechanics that will piss off half their backers but I somehow doubt that will be the case.
  6. No, I think what he is saying is because the Mclaren F1 was a masterpiece, that if someone wanted to pay homage to that car, they shouldnt make the Mclaren F2 a compact hybrid car for the sake of innovation.
  7. @ogrezilla: 1. It was what basically what you said before you editted your post. 2. That is a quote of how Odarbi responded. Stop the sophistry please. Stand your ground and argue your point. If you can't do that, its because the basic premise of the argument is flawed.
  8. So, this is where we stand: 1. Timed Quests are NOT necesarry for immersion. A sense of urgency CAN exist without them. This is by YOUR admission. They just ARGUABLY add additional options according to supporters of them. 2. The original games were NOT flawed for failing to have timed quests. Therefore, the lack of timed quests is NOT a flaw. So, adding them is a fix for a problem that DOES NOT exist. So, lets get this straight here, you wanna put something in that you ADMIT is totally unnecessary and this thread has already proven to be AT LEAST moderately unpopular for... what? Mild gains in immersion? A few added quest options? I think I'll pass.
  9. The onus is not on folks to make successful arguments AGAINST timed quests (though many have been made). Here is the break down: 1. One needs to prove timed events are necessary or at the very least a worthwhile addition. As of yet, the need for this mechanic has not been demonstrated. If anything folks have established that a sense of urgency can exist without the mechanic. Rather than respond to this, proponents of timed quests have responded with sophistry. 2. One needs to explain how the games that Project Eternity is attempting to hearken back to were somehow inferior products due to lacking this mechanic. Again, this has not been established. If anything, the opposite is true. We are here because those games were immersive not because of otherwise. Frankly, this thread is illogical.
  10. One wants to find ways to make an immersive world. I can understand why some would turn to these kind of timed events for that. What you folks fail to understand, is that this is totally unfun for the player. Timed quests are generally unpopular. Mass Effect 3 did it and the first thing most people I know did is look up the proper sequence to complete the quests so that I could get all done with no penalty. At that point, immersion is gone. The game becomes a checklist where you look up an order and starting checking off tasks one at a time. This is a bad idea. Lets keep things in perspective: I can remember no major timed quests in the IE games. The poisoned Harper guy in BG2 is the only exception that comes to mind and that was a minor sidequest that you had to TRY to fail. Yet, we are all here for a game that pays homage to those games. You folks are championing placing an unpopular mechanic into a game that is suppose to be a love letter to other games that largely didn't have this mechanic to fix a problem that doesn't exist. The internet is a funny place.
  11. I still have not heard a compelling reason to pressure the player into running through content when the narrative can already convey the feeling of urgency to the player. What is the logic? Why is the player methodically enjoying all a game has to offer a bad thing? You people offer no tangible explanations. This sounds like feature that would just result in people visiting gamefaqs in droves to ensure they can enjoy as much of the game as they wish to in their playthrough.
  12. Rabain: The possibility of copyright infringement by modders is always a danger in any title. When it happens, it is up to the aggrieved company to notify modders to take down offending materials or face legal action. Obsidian can cover their butt here quite handily just by having players agree to a EULA that states they will not use said tools to infringe on copyright. These two things should halt copyright issues. For example, there are some mods which combine BG1 and BG2. Others attempt to transfer IWD1 to the BG2 engine. In both cases, the original discs are required for the mod to work. Therefore, no copyrighted material in included in the mod itself. Similarly, most IE modding sites are pretty good about removing mods containing copyrighted material. hideo: Most of the best mods may be challenge or rules mods. These could add spells, change/add tough encounters, modify how some classes work, add new classes or racial subtypes etc. If they release mod tools and do so early, then maybe after a while we can start seeing some NPC, then quest and finally maybe some campaign mods. At least that is how it worked with the IE games.
  13. I made some replacement maces for NWN under the name Belenus a long time ago. http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=397 I have one small screenshot but all the old 3DS max files I had are gone, lol. The ones I made were still too big but they were WAY smaller than the NWN ones. The mace heads in NWN looked like ballons glued to the top of sticks. Anywho, I made those because I hate how companies make blunt weapons. Here is how they SHOULD look. The issue exists with axe heads also. They always make them cartoony big.
  14. There is a difference between features that have problems and features that are problems. Timed quests are by their very nature bad and unfun. Getting some quest, doing your very best and having the game tell you a couple hours you invested were for nothing because you didn't beat some internal timer is not my idea of good game design. Having the game tell you to hurry the hell up and ignore game content to get things done is not good game design. Punishing players in this way in not a fair challenge. You give a sense of urgency through narrative devices not through internal timers. All of us have enough deadlines and urgency in our lives. Lets not let it bleed into our virtual entertainment.
  15. I screwed up when I made this poll, lol. I clicked on "multiple choice" not knowing that meant select more than one. *facepalm*
  16. There should be some theoretical cap that you balance the end of the game around.
  17. It may not be eloquent but its the way I feel. See, there are many ways to challenge the player. You could put difficult obstacles in his way. You could confuse him with a myriad of equally viable options. Timed quests do nothing but punish players who do not look online for the perfect order in which to complete crap so they can see the whole game in one playthrough. They also unduly punish the player for rightfully wanting to experience the entire game. Timed quests are bad.
  18. Timed quests are bad. Edit: Lemme add some detail here. I wanna go through the main quest at my leisure. I have this thing called a job. It gives me these evil things called "deadlines." These "deadlines" bring me stress, sadness and grief. I should not be put under the gun in the same way when I go home to relax.
  19. Merin: If they put in stuff like prefab NPCs killing eachother, ala-BG2, mortality may exist.
