The Redemption mission on Dantooine
warstrekkid replied to Jellybelly's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I did all the defense stuff and everything, finished the planet and all.... and still had it to the end -
Alright, well with options as limited as mentioned, I guess it comes down to the big question: better to upgrade my existing system or just replace it? Btw, I do use it mostly for gaming, but also a lot of school work-type-stuff, though most of my concern comes from gaming.

A strange issue came up last night
warstrekkid replied to Landale's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I belive the word on the street is to open up the swkotor2.ini in the main KOTOR2 directoy and stick Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 under the [Graphic options] dealie. this fix is mentioned in, like every tech support thread here. try it -
Flurry vs. Critical Strike vs. Power Attack
warstrekkid replied to Zaalbar's Uncle's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
doesn't crit strike do a stun thing too? nifty for assassins and watchmen -
On a vaguely similar note (and since this is stickied, it'll be easier to get a response, right? :D ), why does the dialogue do the slowdown thing(where their talking, but with giant pauses between each syllable, almost like popping)? Has 'neone else had the problem, or is it my hardware or something(if you've seen my "hardware noob" post, yes my sound card was really cheap and crappy too)? I've been toying around with the different settings for sound, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

bump, still looking for options

Thanks everybody, everything you say helps (even if it's telling me my computer sucks :D ) Still, any other advice is welcome...

I think the attitude of the jedi vaguely parallels that to the Crusaders or the members of the Inquistion(other than the obvious difference that the Crus/Inq were DRASTICALLY more aggressive), but the mentality is the same. It's not necessarily good or bad, per se, but they have an old belief and they cling to it, determined not to compromise to any other ideal. Basically blind fanaticism. (and sorry if I offended 'neone about the Crus/Inq)

Simply put, just as in the topic title. While I do consider myself fairly proficient at operating a computer, troubleshooting software issues, and programming, I know next to nothing about hardware. So basically what it comes down to is, my computer is... aged a bit (probably quite a bit. As I said, I don't keep up with hardware much) and I'm quite cheap (and yes, I am a teenager trying to hang onto what I have). What can I do to get the most out of my computer? Specifically, I'm looking for any programs or 'nething like that that might increase performance. Basically, anything that doesn't require me opening up or changing 'nething inside my computer (I don't trust myself that much :D ), I'm open to. Sorry I come off as a complete noob in this field... but that's me. Anything you can tell me would help (as well as 'neone else who knows as little as I do...) Dell Dimension 4500 WindowsXP Home SP2 Intel Pentium 4 2.00 GHz 512 MB DDR RAM GeForce FX 5200 128 MB (btw, was $30 a good deal for that, about 6 months ago?)

light and dark side mastery bonus...
warstrekkid replied to random evil guy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
probably just an extra incentive to be good and stay good(or be bad and stay bad) instead of toying around to get the best stuff on quests while still maintaining the force cost reduction. -
When you play too much Kotor2
warstrekkid replied to Nexinnel's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
When something happens that you don't expect, and you wonder if there's a bug or a glitch you can fix by switching a variable or something... when your toaster doesn't work and you blame it on not having ATI card support -
Not that I know... it's a fake.

Honestly, you can get all the sourcebooks you want, but in the end, you might end up not using them and simply doing it all yourself. Think of them more as... pricey guidelines... you can find a lot of stuff online for free to supplement instead. Most of the gaming should be the GM's creativity 'neways.

Hmm... that's an idea, having 2... thanks.

Someone?

I liked that one where the guy is talking on the wireless headset in the store when he's at the counter and says, "You're getting robbed" or something. I thought it was hilarious(though I didn't like the other commercial they did with the cat and tomato sauce as much).

I actually snapped a CD awhile back trying to get it out out the jewel case(irritatingly enough, it was IWDII). I distinctly remember being distraught(at least until I found a no-cd and later realized it wasn't worth playing again) over it, though I had to restrain myself from laughing over my own stupidity. And KOTOR 2 was a pain, almost thought it'd snap too.

Was it just me, or did at the end, the mentioned above freeze him so he couldn't do what he was supposed to?(yet it still works, as the cutscene shows) or did I miss something so that the remote was successful?

Alright, so I was wondering, when the players are in a group, and one needs to be separated from the others(in the game) like to do scouting or stuck in prison or something, other than kicking everyone out of the room, is there a good way to get around it? Should i just let them stay and ask them to play like they don't know, or what?

Why am I getting the feeling that the locked nav comp is another one of those cutoff plot elements in the game?

The old D6 books are out of print, but if you know any 2nd hand bookstores, like Half-price books or something, you can usually dig them up. They're quite simple(at least it seems like it to me) compared to the new D20 system for Star Wars now. The old one doesn't require a ridiculous collection of dice(as the name implies, all you need are regular 6-sided dice), most of the rules are pretty intuitive, and it practically has flexibility built into it. The new D20 books come from Wizards of the Coast and are much more similar to the system used in KOTOR, which seems to be a variation built for computer games. They're the ones on the market right now, though I honestly haven't tried them out as much as other RPG systems. In any case, I think the best site right now for any type of Star Wars RPGs is SWRPG Network. Check it out.

I tried it, and I thought it was pretty incredible. It has some interesting ideas for a squad game, and the graphics look quite nice. I don't know FPSs that well though, so for all I know, it could be crap compared to what's out there, but it is definitely the best star wars shooter I've ever played(better than Battlefront). Try it and see!

I liked the entire NJO if simply for the fact that it didn't come out as either a)one of our favorite protagonists saves the universe, everthing is back as it is, we're going to have a party or b)yes, a whole bunch of crap happened, but I've got the force and all I have to do is press the rewind button to fix it all. What type of hero is it that never falls? An awfully boring and predictable one.

All in all, I can't really say any RPG has been all that tough. Sure, some were ridiculously long, and I played BGI like a n00b, but most of it is pretty simple. The sole exception to that would be when I installed The Big Picture collection of mods for BGII. Maybe I cling too much to the original game, but I barely began it when I gave up, fighting those spirit trolls in Nalia's keep who hardly give you a chance to fight back.

I enjoy just looking around for little things where probability and luck plays a big deal and the goal is to manipulate dice rolls and stuff in your favor (ex. a character built in, say, D&D 3.0 that makes a crit on more than half of all attacks). It puts a lot of thought into things while still feeling like a game where every dice topple matters
