  1. "they" can be a neutral singular pronoun in standard English. In older usage, "he" was used but then the feminists objected. In answer to the OP, Malak I agree was a Jedi Guardian and Revan a Consular based on their clothing. We didn't really see any video footage of what the exile wore so it's harder to tell.
  2. Ahh interesting. Now I see why some people keep complaining about the absence of bloom effects.
  3. Didn't crash here. I went from Korriban to Dantooine.
  4. I guess if you were playing LS, you'd probably have destroy droid anyway. Towards the end, I had so many excess powers I invested in horror even though I was LS. That's interesting. Sounds like he lost a lot.
  5. Sith Cave on Korriban -------------------------- I found it one of the best parts of the game. I mean seeing Malak before he fell to the dark side...unblemished and full of conviction about his cause, which ultimately led to his downfall. Also the scene when those republic soldiers were pleading with the general about the impossible odds they faced and how as the general I made the right choice to go alone and how grateful they were...it just seemed so eerie and real...in the sense that we all have our ghosts of the past to confront. Mandalorians --------------- TSL put Mandalorians in a different light. Almost like they were pawns used by the dark side of the Force to bring about the destruction of the Jedi. The very qualities they admire such as battle prowess and their honour system were manipulated by the Force into fruition as the Mandalorian Wars. Yet in spite of all that they were-a great warring nation of the highest order-we know from SW that their people and their world, Malachor V, were wiped out from the face of the galaxy and became but a memory in the inexorable progress of time. The Ravager was another reminder of the glorious past of the Mandalorians. I recall the scene when one of the proton torpedoes prematurely detonated and the Mandalorian crying out "we have failed you again, Mandalore". Could he have been referring to their defeat at Malachor V? The irony of course was then they were probably trying to save the vessel of Mandalorian construction than destroy it. How can one not feel a sense of pity for the Mandalorians? We have Canderous as Mandalore and his inability to forget the past, trying to reclaim a piece of it as evidenced in "it will just be like old times". Darth Sion ------------ Another poor soul. A man so damaged and in such pain and yet trudges on for no particular reason. A man so jealous his former master would love the exile instead of him..."what does she see in you?"
  6. I felt sorry for Malak. It seems from my character's dialog with him in TSL that he truly believed he was doing the right thing to disobey the council and save the republic. In TSL, he seemed so innocent compared to what he became in the original.
  7. You need the droidball for the blow MV to bits ending. Mira , no idea why she crops up. Perhaps they planned on giving you a companion for the end game or something. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or maybe to tie up the loose end about Kreia reviving the wookie and asking him to hunt her down. Afterall, she wasn't too happy about the exile having so many companions.
  8. Initially in the residential area of the Telos station I had smooth gameplay. However, after a few minutes of exploration I got rather choppy stuttering. The effect is only is the central residential area and disappears when I leave for another area (such as the west wing). The funny thing is that sometimes when I return to the main residential area it is still choppy, but only that area. More strange is the fact that it is not always so - I can return to that area and have it run as smooth as silk at times. To go that one step further, all this is within the same game session. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yup, it was the similar experience for me, not so bad that it started stuttering, just slight slowness. I think it's some kind of memery leak. Just try moving around in the area for a bit, the slowless will eventually crop up. I suspect when you move somewhere else, it sort of clears the memory before the leak resurfaces when you return to the area. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. Sound disappeared when the game was playing the video sequence at the very end of the game. I had to return to the menu and replay the unlocked movies to hear them with sound.
  9. OK, completed the game as LS. To summarise: Only 1 CTD throughout the whole game, and that occurred on Dantooine as mentioned above. Had one black screen with background sounds continuing to play close to the end but loading a quicksave solved it. Pressing <esc> allowed me to load the quicksave. Slight slowness at the Telos residential area, but not when I returned to Telos for the finale. All in all, the game was longer than KotOR 1. I think it makes a great prelude to Episode 3.
  10. I always esc the intro movies and don't experience what you mentioned. I do experience slowdowns specific to certain areas, which could be some kind of memory leak. On the second planet as you mentioned, I got some slowdowns at the residential area. Everywhere else was smooth as silk.
  11. Glad to see it helped you out. I have played until Dxun and got my first CTD on Dantooine, in the Kinraeth cave. This was expected as documented in the readme. I also encountered a rough patch at the landspeeder in the Docks area on Nar Shaddar. I didn't remember encountering a slowdown at that spot until I was about to leave the planet, after meeting up with the Jedi Master.
  12. The text in this forum should be white instead of grey to improve the contrast between the text and background. It's rather hard to make out the text if one is using an older computer with a CRT monitor with no gamma control. There is a Lo-Fi version, which is really clear, but it's only for reading and postings can't be made from there.
  13. Here are some benchmarks for Doom 3. http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q3/radeo...xt/index.x?pg=7 As you can see, the FX Nvidia series is nowhere close to the performance of a 9800 XT. It also compares the X800 Pro with Nvidia's 6800 and they are comparable in performance, so I'm not sure where you got your info from.
  14. Perhaps your argument might hold more merit if you could name another OGL game that performs poorly on ATI hardware, other than those based on the Aurora/Odyssey engine. I have played Chronicles of Riddick and Jedi Academy, both OGL games, and there wasn't even a hint of lagging whatsoever. If the only OGL games that seem to perform poorly on ATI are apparently KotOR 1 & 2 then they are more likely the problem. Having said that, I have played KotOR 2 until the end of Telos and only noticed a slightly rough patch at the Telos residential area, which I believe could be some kind of memory leak.
  15. Completed Telos yesterday and on my way to Dantooine. Got some slight slowdowns(suspect memory leak, fps dropped to as slow as 20) at the Telos residential area. No crashes as yet.
  16. Apparently it also fixed the slightly low frame rate I was experiencing at some points. The game is perfect now and I have no more complaints. I have made it all the way to Telos without a single CTD, nor noticed any bugs. I really like the improvements they have made, such as telling you a container is empty upfront so you don't have to click on it.
  17. I solved the problem with KotOR starting in a window. Apparently there are 2 entries of the line "fullscreen=0" - under [Graphics Options] & [Display Options]. I had only noticed it under [Display Options] initially. When I fixed the one under [Graphics Options], I got full screen :D
  18. I'm on ATI Radeon X800 XTPE & AMD 64 3000+, latest Cats(5.2). To be on the safe side, I have Vertex Buffer Objects disabled=1 under [Graphics Options] of the swkotor2.ini file. KotOR 2 finally arrived yesterday. So I installed it when I got home and started playing. I didn't encounter any CTDs yet and have played until the Paragus dom. Glitches noted: 1. First time I started the game, the screen was fully maximised. But for some strange reason, when I exited and restarted, I couldn't for the life of me get it to start fullscreen even though it says Fullscreen=1 in the swkotor2.ini file. To solve this, I had to click on the maximise button of the window and it became fullscreen, weird. So I have to do this everytime I start the game, I mean who'd want to play it in a window. 2. Some parts of Paragus dropped to 15 fps, don't know why, average fps elsewhere was probably 60. It was still playable though. I am running at 1024x768x32 85 Hz, all graphics options maxed including AA and AF.
  19. I'd bet if you overclocked the 9800XT, it'd easily outperform your 5950 Ultra.
  20. runs on mine, and I'm having a lot of fun playing the game. P.S. and I didn't have to make any adjustments to my drivers or my settings. It just so happens, I'm lazy and never update my drivers. I'm still using 4.11 drivers. In fact, I rarely update drivers. I alway say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. My games all run good with 4.11 (except morrowind which has ctd issues, but I don't think that is a video driver problem) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I read somewhere that 4.11 has a problem with the starting video. Guess you didn't experience any issues there?
