i'm curious, how did you manage to wrest the right to reproduce them from interplay?
-
ahhhh, very cunning. thanks.
-
visually, it's fine but i can no longer see a little dot to indicate whether i've posted in a particular thread or not. that's a very helpful feature. here's hoping you put it back in soon...
-
it'd be worth learning japanese just to be able to read that.

according to one dictionary, it is the english word for the dialect spoken in and around beijing that is also the official dialect used by the government throughout china. it is also known as guoyu or putonghua. these are all transliterations, sorry, i don't know the proper chinese characters. p.s. to be clear, i only know the following in mandarin: 'hello', 'how are you?', 'good morning', 'thank you' and 'president'. my conversations in mandarin are usually pretty short.
-
don't worry. my mandarin is much worse, and my cantonese is just terrible.
-
only if they make BG3 using an older engine, a la IWD2, which might be good for those nostalgic for that style of game but in general seems super-unlikely.
-
KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid or in Volourn's case, it's even shorter: KIS = Keep It Stupid.

i hope obsidian's conception of a 'fun, mature' forum isn't the kind of forum heralded by steel wind earlier, in which censorious prudes threaten posters they don't like with nazi-style 'purges'. because, y'know, nobody likes a nazi.
-
true. i think you have to actually make a game first before you can have actual fans.
-
banned from the Bio boards? oooh, scary. what next? devil worship? cats and dogs living together? ah, nazism. you know, i get as nostalgic as the next aryan for the good old days of goose-stepping and racial hygenics, but i tend to draw the line when it comes to actually promoting those policies in public. after all, people might draw the wrong conclusion and think that you're some kind of jumped-up little facist. or maybe that was the right conclusion? feh. plus ca change, plus c'est la m

spammers, trolls and wankers... does it matter that i only fit the last two of those categories? i don't spam that much to be honest, but if you think it would make a difference....
-
huh, i raised this elsewhere and then found this thread: what gives with the loss of custom titles??
-
i used to have a custom title, now i don't. what gives? on a related note, this whole 'level 1', 'level 2' malarkey is a little on the dull side ( i mean, even 1e D&D had actual level titles). here's a thought: why don't youse guys go back to the old BIS titles? or some new obsidiany-variation thereof? those were colourful. i mean, if you're gonna bother to have them (given that everyone can already see when you joined and your post count), at least try to make 'em interesting.
-
just a little indicator next to a thread, to show that an obsidian developer had posted on it, would be helpful. you might even try to go one better than the Bio boards and provide some way of jumping directly to the post, that would be kewl too.

allegiance? screw that noise. buying or even liking a product ain't an 'allegiance'. before KOTOR2 was announced, most of the posters were here simply because they like discussing RPGs and CRPGs. i like star wars movies but until KOTOR i'd never bought a single star wars game or product (okay, maybe that model tie-fighter when i was 9). hell, i've bought several CRPGs now that have been set in the forgotten realms and i hate the forgotten realms. you can't infer anything from the fact that people post here other than the fact that they're human. and i even doubt that about some posters...

nonsense. the best writers create for themselves. you ask any writer what their ambition is: to write something original or write derivative novels based off of someone's elses successful movie franchise for a bunch of desperate fans. i doubt you'll find many whose childhood dream was the latter. artists don't care about commercial success. or at least it isn't what drives their artistic vision. van gogh could doubtless have made a successful living selling seaside postcards, but he chose to starve in a garret painting the pictures he wanted and died a pauper. as for lucas, you might despise the prequels, but make no mistake: he's the living envy of every filmmaker alive (even the ones who think he's lousy). why? he has the two things that any filmmaker would kill to have: near unlimited resources and complete artistic freedom. lucas is the only filmmaker who can release a major motion picture outside the hollywood studio system and make it a worldwide success (although after 'the passion', mel gibson may be next). so in a nutshell: lucas doesn't need to care what anyone thinks about his movies. and he don't need to care about commercial success either.
-
except that proper artists don't create for fans. they create for themselves. you could claim that lucas is a lousy artist, or a good artist who has become lousy over time, and you might not be wrong, but the idea that he should write for the fans is utter BS. fans are, by and large, whiny idiots. ask 100 star wars fans to write the prequels and what would you have gotten? judging by the average SW fanfic, probably some retarded mush about anakin and boba fett being brothers who were seperated at birth and how yoda was actually their father... fans control SW? LOL. delusional much? yeah, GL has "legal" control that nets him billions of dollars annually, but it's the fans who give him all that money who are the ones with the real power, right? as for lucas approving books on boba fett and screwing over the fans, ROTFLMAO. i grew up on star wars, as i assume pretty much everyone else on these boards did. i remember being about 10 when alan dean foster's 'splinter in the minds eye' was released and thinking, "if george lucas didn't write it, then i'm not interested". i was also able to grasp that something wasn't canon just because something was written on the back of a star wars baseball card. so plainly if a 10 year old was smart enough to work out the difference between canon and non-canon, then i don't know how anyone else can have an excuse. and see my post above for why you have only yourself to blame... ah, the outrage of the clueless...
-
screw what up? it's their artistic vision, not yours. it's the integrity of their work at stake, not your own ideas of what it should be. you might think the star wars universe has gone down the toilet, and you're entitled to that opinion. but it's lucas that controls star wars, not the fans. sure. anyone can write a star wars book or D&D book. but lucas or gygax writing one is canon...
-
LOL. yeah, what does Lucas know? he only created Star Wars. p.s. i'm not saying episodes 1 and 2 were necessarily good movies, but arguing against them as canon is about as pointless an exercise as drilling a hole in your head.
-
here's hoping you at least wipe it down afterwards, then. because not all of us want your sloppy seconds.

Have You Pre-Ordered KOTOR II?
newc0253 replied to Vanidar Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
preordering for a game not due out until next feb? man, you folk are desperate. i used to preorder but i gave up after 2 releases in a row arrived late. much easier for me to just buy it on the day of release from my local PLAY on the way home from work... -
i didn't have a problem with pazaak. it was always optional and a diverting way to make extra credits. swoop racing, OTOH, was a pain in the bloody ass.

Why are 99% of Twi'leks green?????
newc0253 replied to Bantha Fodder's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Bib Fortuna was more a kind of beige actually. -
what do you think of the ideas for twists in KOTOR
newc0253 replied to poolofpoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
no no this is a thread where in we will discuss the merit of the ideas in them other threads yeah, it's like a meta-thread or something.
