  1. Lets hope this is true and lets hope OE surprises us. Afterall InXile did implement new features and made big changes between last beta and release version. And kept improving the game months after release, and got quite good reviews despite not initially having a lot of late game bugs ironed out (though now they are.) Speaking post-release, I hope Obsidian is more willing to revisit mechanical issues that aren't necessarily bugs than InXile appears to be. I think they are hesitant to revisit balance and set mechanics because it would alter gameplay in one way or another, which might "interfere" with people's gaming experience or change their set assumptions (such as everyone knowing that Assault Rifles are superior to everything in Wasteland 2). But I think that modern audiences as a whole are actually more forgiving in those regards, having grown accustomed to relatively big updates or game changes, DLCs and whatnot, and are more likely to respond favourably to positive gameplay changes than maintaining questionable mechanics in the interest of consistency. You must have missed the part where InXile have been saying for 1 month that after last patch they are working on a complete overhaul of systems and balance. They will be changing how weapons/armor work, skills and stats and balancing encounters around this. Maybe even more. It is also expected they will add more areas into the game and possible maybe even more aimed shot options. Mod tools are also coming.
  2. The sewer encounter is not that strange later when you find what is near those high level adventurers. They were probably there for that. Also they might have been investigating or working for the Cult of the Unseen. The sewer entrance to the wizard "tower" is also not strange in a city where Cowled Wizards hunt and control other wizards. I doubt this place is known to the Cowled Wizards and that they would approve. Stealth works in a way that if you are using it outside shadows you get a bit penalty to it but in shadows you still need to pass both your Hide in Shadows and Move Silently rolls to use it. I agree about resting anywhere and random encounters. They should have just forbidden resting in places like these or used mechanic similar to PoE. NWN2 is example of fracking it up in another direction where there is 0 penalty for resting anywhere. What I do in IE games is rest and suffer random encounters while I can. Once I am out of resources I save scum until I can rest. If it happens that I cannot rest successfully after 5 tries I quit the level and go rest somewhere else. If I cannot go somewhere else, I use my potions and try to finish the level.
  3. Why do I have the feeling PoE will need to get a similar treatment like ToEE and VtM Bloodlines before it becomes awesome. ups. This was meant for the other modding topic (phones )
  4. Crits have always been one of the main culprits for combat being too fast and with armor nerfed it is even worse.
  5. Haha. We are going to make a true bg2 fan out of you yet. Later fights where you seem to run into a brick wall but then start experimenting until you find what works are deeply satisfying like no other game.

I expect for PoE to get better than 86% positive score on Steam. WL2 shot themselves in the foot with all those bugs. Good thing for WL2 was that to see most of those bugs you needed to spend 50h playing the game already :D

  8. I said "efficiently handle." When they created mage battles, I'd wager BioWare didn't have in mind players standing outside the enemy mage's field of vision, sending one summon at a time to get killed, making the mage waste their powerful offensive spells on sacrifices while their defensive spells slowly wore off, before eventually summoning a Fire Elemental to finish the fight. That was abuse of the AI, not clever design. Who cares about being efficient if you win. And yes, Bioware did also count on that because that was doable in BG1 and I am sure people did do it. Afterall, Bioware turned Imoen into Thief/Mage in BG2 because lots of people did that in BG1 already. It is also not efficient to run straight to fights and hope RNG gods love you and reload if it fails and repeat until it does not fail but they didn't implement hardcore/ironman mode.
  9. Neither BG1 nor Irenicus dungeon teach how to efficiently handle a mage hiding behind several layers of defensive buffs, and lowering the difficulty barely helps on that point. While the manual does give all the info needed, it's just buried in the huge spell list. Whatever works. I half remember my first completed BG2 playthrough more than ten years ago, when I never cast buffs or status effect, brute-forced enemy mages' defensive buffs or waited for them to wear off on their own. Replaying now, with all my fancy Stoneskin, Chaos, True Sight, Breach and Pierce Magic, I wonder how I managed to finish it back then. I think that was thanks to spell books filled to the brim with summoning spells, a tactic I borrowed from my previous BG1 playthrough. Funny post. First you say Bg1 was not the tutorial and than you say you passed challenges using things you learned from BG1?! Isn't it glorious that Bg2 let you beat challenges in multiple very different ways? Also Bg1 supported it. Will PoE support this?
  10. What Nakia said. Only difference is I am not sure OE will make it but they can still surprise me. My hope is they have been working on improvements without talking about them (like when they surprised us with changes to how skill leveling works)
  11. Are you really accusing Obsidian of deliberately pissing off their backers and customer base?we will see after release.
  12. Read the forums back a few weeks and months and it will be clear. I have been active here from the summer and many things have not been improved enough in that time. I hope their planned improvements come faster in these last two months or so. And while they cannot please everyone they should be sure who they want to piss off. Do they want to piss off IE fans or those that enjoyed NWN or DAO more.
  13. You are nitpicking Stun. He and everyone is talking about blood of Bhaal. It is directly connected with the prophecy. And the game is not about the prophecy but about your character. The prophecy is just backstory.
  14. In IE games crit was x2 damage. And using two handed weapons or single one handed weapon styles (no shield) raised crit chance to 10%.
  15. the problems with the way critical hit work was talked about for months.
  16. You need to re read my post right above your last one again. It deals with the so called promises they made very aptly. Only in Karakov world it does. Meanwhile in the real world...
  17. No, not Might. Better to use some less useful stat.
  18. I agree that BG2 was not the example of world best design for quests and NPCs, but it was nowhere as bad as it is trying to be shown. I am sure there are better examples than what PrimeJunta mentioned to showcase this. Irenicus is nearest to a God you can get as a mortal. Why does a player expect him to have same kind of regular morality and drive that one Lord Harold has. Lord Harold wants something that Irenicus gets with one spell. It is like telling me the beggar on the street is more complex than Bill Gates.
  19. That would make Grazes a bit better, but what about crazy critical hits?
  20. And low damage high attack weapons that profit most from high critical chance would be useless with this.
  21. As I said, they promised one thing on KS and they need to deliver it now. Not amount of apologists like you are going to change that or save them from pissed off fans. And I think you are on a wrong forum. The successor for NWN2 forums is .. oh yea. There is NONE! I wonder why... LOL
  22. It will matter to OE if they ever want to do another KS. But since they said they don't want another KS I guess they have decided from before to piss off their backers. But it will also reflect on their Steam score if they do (and as result on their sales). The promised too much on KS, and now they need to walk the walk and not just talk the talk.
  23. Irenicus is doing stuff for a good reason (let me not spoil it since you don't remember it all). It is hard to understand him as a commoner as his power and way of thinking is beyond ours. Lord Harond is a simple guy with easily to understand motivations. That is why his motivations seem better, but they are not. As for the guy from the tent, he is crazy . You don't need to understand all crazy people. He is also a typical story of a someone not fitting in gone crazy, he might be any of the kids that went crazy and did all those awful school shootings.
  24. 1. You are comparing main quest with side quests of PoE. And comparing the opening of it vs start, middle and end of side quests of PoE. Don't you think it is unfair? "Find my missing daughter for money" is even less interesting if you look at it just from that one part. Also the main quest start is about "save your sister" or "take revenge on the guy that tortured you for who knows how long". It is as good of a start for a sequel as it needs at that part of the game. 2. BG1 is a tutorial for BG2. Bioware never meant for people to play BG2 directly. And even if you did, between Irenicus dungeon and manual (it was normal to read the manual then) you learned all you needed to learn. If still a problem, you could lower the difficulty. 3. As for Copper Coronet, yes it does feel a bit like that. Good thing most quests there are out of town and as such most players ignore those anyways.
  25. I just reread your, Sensuki and my posts. Nowhere did you state you were talking about weapon attacks only. From what you and sensuki talked about, it was more about spells or just general attack system which spells are part of.
