  1. Agreed. What we need is competent secular leadership in our government, not religious wackos like Bush and his cronies. Is Bush really a religious nutjob? Or is he just aware of his constituents?
  2. Look, kids are smart enough to figure this stuff out. Educational institutions just needs to make sure they are allowing access to ALL information, viewpoints, and theories. Obviously teachers shouldn't be preaching religious methodology, but they also shouldn't be avoiding discussions about it. The state of the world is this: People are arguing about creationsim versus evolution. That is they way it should be taught to the students. Anyways, this is getting away from the original topic, I very much side with Krauss on the issue. I think Dawkins' strategy will only encourage the rift between science and religion, and with religion as popular as ever, that's a losing strategy.
  3. yes all is true but the ds has been out longer .... give it time there will b games for the psp and battlefront is just the begining The PSP has been out for 2 years. I owned it for a year and a half before I gave up on it and sold it off. Even with Battlefront, I'd rather play it on my console or PC, it's not a better game on the handheld. The DS has unique titles that aren't available on the PC or consoles.
  4. I've had both, and there isn't even a contest between the two. The DS has creative games and an amazing stylus system. The PSP looks great, but I found they tried too hard to force PSOne games onto a tiny handheld screen. I wanted games that were designed for the small screen, not games that I wish I could see on my TV. If you want to watch movies, surf the internet and care more about graphics, then the PSP is the right system. If you want to play games, get a DS.
  5. Actually, religion belongs in Social Studies, or Social Science as it's now called.
  6. Islam is about 500 years younger than Christianity. 500 years ago, Catholics and Protestants were killing each other all over Europe.
  7. Anarchy Online may be free, if I recall.
  8. Are you a stand up comedian Morgoth? Because those not jokes are pure gold!
  9. KotOR was linear. I loved it because of that. The story would have been weakened if you weren't forced down certain paths.
  10. Eventually, the millions of peaceful Sunni's and Shi'ites are going to say enough is enough and stand against these horrific attacks on one another. I just hope it's sooner rather than later. I'm not sure what the US can do, other than to support Muslim leaders who seek peace between to two denominations.
  11. Keenan seems to be much calmer nowadays. He hardly made any news in Florida.
  12. Pali's have a few good buffs, but they really just have an insane armor rating. They are hard to kill, even if the person behind the character is doing nothing. Couple that with a divine shield that makes them invulnerable for 10 seconds and a spell that recovers all their health at the touch of a button (no casting time) and they can survive longer against really bad odds. The trade off is Pali's have very little DPS ability. I can kill demons and undead pretty well, but everything else is just me whacking with an occassional stunning. There is a bit more than that, but it's not a complicated class. They also can heal, although that's a mana drain. Honestly though, this is only against stuff below my level. When fighting a monster a few levels higher, I do have to work hard to balance my mana, health, different judgements, and explosives.
  13. Hehe, that's so true. I love my paladin because I don't need to be fast to survive battles. I've been playing lately will feeding a baby with one arm, and it's been great. Not many other classes allow that flexibility.
  14. I'm not too concerned with being obsolete. I just want to look cool. It's more important to look good than to avoid death.
  15. I'm almost at 56, and I'm fairly excited to check out Outland in a couple levels. My Paladin has a full set of Imperial Plate and looks just like a Stormwind guard.
  16. Or, you could baby sit and send me and my wife to Greece, jerk. So you might want to think about the fact that you are taking on a pretty heavy flight. Will you have time to recover enough to enjoy the cruise? I'm kinda of the mentality that if you are paying the expensive airfare, you should get as much time in Europe as possible. But I've never been to Europe, so I'm not the voice of experience. I've been on a 4 day cruise. I'd imagine Greece is cooler to see by sea than Mexico. I wasn't wowed.
  17. Spider-Man 3. First off, I had a free ticket, a few hours to kill, and it was the only show that worked into my schedule. That means it was difficult to be too disappointed, but my opinion would probably be different if I'd forked over $9.00. It was cheesy. It was like Raimi wanted to see how many goofy moments he could fit in to the movie. The acting between Maguire and Dunst was awful. I really grew to dislike Peter Parker. He was whiny, and he was terrible in the Venom suit. That being said, it was satisfying to watch him get crushed. I was rooting for the bad guys. I actually really liked Topher Grace as Venom, and I wouldn't mind seeing him again in something. I also thought Green Goblin Jr. was the only guy who could act in the bunch. It was worth it to see Bruce Cambell with a french accent. He was excellent, as always. So I wouldn't say it was terrible, it just wasn't good drama. I found myself laughing in the serious spots and cheering when Spidey got pwned.
  18. Puzzle Quest...awesome RPG goodness.
  19. Yeah, that "kid" was probably you giving your Valedictorian speech. I'm not quite sure how standing up for your rights = bashing the school. If you pay attention to your curriculum, it's all about changing the world. I read 1984 and Animal Farm because a teacher assigned it. Kids spend plenty of time oppressing themselves, educational institutions are tools you can use to break out of this, if you bother to try. It's not a coincidence that social and cultural revolutions always begin in the universities.
  20. I've never had a regular Xbox account, so I can't tell you. I would imagine it would be pretty simple.
  21. So I gather she is a maths teacher as well? In theory, seems like it's a simple approach of "too low marks = somethign wrong with the teaching = flush staff." Hrm... No, she's a PE teacher. That's what I'm trying to say, the system doesn't make any logical sense at all. Even getting rid of the math teachers is a bad idea overall, because all you are doing is hiring a new group that makes no gaurantees of being better. Anyways, I've ranted and pulled this off topic enough
  22. Added, I'm hurlshot. Which I suppose is obvious.
  23. Hey! Me and Krook are in the club too!
  24. Dear Mr. theslug, Earlier you said "Graduating high school just means that you deal with an extended amount of useless BS for 4 years." I agree with this. I said earlier that the academic requirement is rather low. The real test of high school is following something through to completion. It's a skill that will serve you well in real life. I change a lot of diapers right now. It's not a hard task, but it's a necessary one. I'm not going to just give up on it. It may seem to be a bit of a stretch, but finishing High School helped me develop the skill of changing diapers. Seriously, I love teaching and wouldn't trade it for any job. But it's not for everyone and that's nice, because it means I've got job security. Standardized testing is forced upon teachers by the government. We have no control over it, but if our students do badly we can face all sorts of consequences. I work in a great community with active parents. My wife works in a more difficult school. I think she's a better teacher, I know she works harder, yet her job is in constant jeopardy due to test scores. She's also a PE teacher, but if the students at her school don't pull up math scores, the government may come in and release every teacher from their jobs. It's a messy and ineffective system. State standards that force teachers to address certain curriculum can actually be a positive. It ensures that students are covering the same content no matter which school they attend. There is a lot of leeway within the standards to introduce neat material. I teach the Renaissance in 7th grade, and I get to introduce students to Machiavelli and Dante. I shouldn't be trying to teach Karl Marx on top of that. It focuses teachers. Standardized tests will eventually become less important in education, but right now it's the government's cure-all for our national academic woes. From what the 35-year veteran teachers say in the lunch room, this stuff is cyclical.
  25. Geez, I don't even remember posting this. I wonder if the service has been financially successful for Microsoft? I haven't checked to see if the prices have gone down at all.
