Well, yea I see that. But in those cases there's still other stuff about the class like lightsabres and whatnot to keep it interesting. I wonder how it would remain interesting in a medieval fantasy setting. For instance, when Lord of the Rings Online first came out, they adhered to cannon as far as practitioners of magic were concerned. I read an article somewhere a few years later that they had to change that because the magic like classes they created just weren't interesting to play. But, I don't know how much truth there is to the article. Replace the lightsaber with glowing sword. Star Wars is actually medieval setting, Magus using glowing sword, it just that they make it futuristic. The opening did say "long time ago, in the galaxy far-far away". In LotR Gandalf is Jedi-like, see how he fighting with Saruman, force push and telekinetic always. The turth is, that is real magic, either you believe in magic or not, that is how real magic look like. And if want more realistic magic, mostly are not good, magic itself is evil in real life, most things related to magic are evil. Miracle is another thing, miracle is a gift from God, if you believe such thing. But in games miracles always fall into magic shoes. I prefer to play as a miraculous character, a Paladin type, use miracle as back up, sword as main weapon. I don't really like playing a Priest/Cleric because miracles in game usually against specific race and buff only, there is no point playing as Priest/Cleric, better play as Paladin isn't it? In Dragon Age, i dislike Primal Mage, i don't like offensive magic, so in DA:O i like Arcane Warrior who use magic as buff and hand weapon as main weapon. Sadly they remove it in DA2, but still in DA2 i can play as non-offensive Mage, Spirit Healer and Force Mage. Actually i like Anti-Magic, i can make an Anti-Magic character in DA:O, Dark Souls, Oblivion and Skyrim. I actually liked Anti-Magic since i play Warcraft 3 and DotA. I like Anti-Magic spell or miracle or talents or whatever want to call it. So in short, i like Jedi-like type with miracle and Anti-Magic, for me this kind of class/chraracter is the most fun to play, or at least for me to fantasize.

Both KotOR have subtle magic, yeah you may call it "The Force", but it's still magic in sense. Light Side only have buffs (and race specific offensive), Dark Side only have offensive, Uviversal have buff and invisible weak offensive powers And visual effects for these powers are too little

If no one make a game like they did it doesn't mean it's unique, it just no one make such. And they have lost their identity since DA2, they now making a game mix of everything taken from other games, totally not unique

BioWare have chaning policy, they are not just making games, they are a propaganda agent now, they will put in whatever those "hidden hands" told them to, BioWare is just a puppet. Believe me it is not the buyers who give them money, but something or someone else, so they don't care about rating or sales, they are just working for their master

The ending is not grand, that is actually the main problem KotOR 2. KotOR the first hanve a grand ending, Revan with Republic fleet storming the Star Forge, then face the Star Forge defenses, saving her/his friend/lover Bastila, then face the main villain alone, saving the Republic or become the Dark Lord, that's grand KotOR 2, i actually don't quite understand anyway, but she/he know what her/his nature, then flew to Malachor with friends, kill waves Sith cultists, then face the undead Sith, and face Kreia, kill Kreia...then...what hell is going on? Malachor blew up or not...then flew to the galaxy....or not.... The whole KotOR 2 is great, the writing is great, but end up like that, not a grand ending Fighting Nihilus also not grand, only the Mandalorian scene is grand, but just that, Nihilus himself is not live up with the propaganda about him if you know what i mean...eating planets, the ship is put together by him, but the encounter with him is so disappointing

Yes, because they use the west as their measure stick on gender roles. The west itself changed through history, the west are not nice in history, that is why there's feminism and human rights, and the west try to put everyone in your shoes through indoctrination. Like i said there are things that i agree with organization like SIS, but not everything. Human and society is not simple, we are living in stereotypes Just to say, my ideology is nationalist socialist (left wing) and i am quite liberal Does my picture make you think i am oppressed?

You know history is long and not just modern history? we made that exact point in our post that you initially quoted. good for you that you picked up on that, if only subconsciously. so? HA! Good Fun! So, there are westernized Malays here as well Islamic Malays and "who cares" Malay types. "Sister In Islam" is westernized liberal group of Muslim women who adopt western liberal ideologies, so their view is western bias. I do agree with some of their points, but not all. My people here have influenced much by what happen in the world in recent time, especially after WW2 (and 9/11), unlike in ancient time So today, we have socialist, liberal, communist, democratic, secular, Arabic Islamic, non-Arabic Islamic, various of Muslim sects, traditionalists, LGBT and you name it....they all have their own agendas, you only quote one source and take it as the whole truth.
-
You know history is long and not just modern history? My country was under western occupation for a very long time, Islam here today is also changed due to sect that control Arabs, Islam in the past are not the same with Islam today, Malay peoples are also influenced by what happen in Arabia in religion things "Malaysia" itself created long after WW2, that is why i said do not look at history with political boundary that exist after WW2, that's modern history Malay people are not just "Malaysians"

You just said it yourself. Warrior is gender neutral so it applies to both genders. Really?.....or it is because it doesn't exist in the west. Women warrior in the west is a rare, like Joan of Arc So you must say "woman warrior", you don't say the same if they are men. You must specified the gender But here, we have the word, "Srikandi", women warriors are "Srikandi", they are always exist here, it is not a rare word either Men warriors we called "Pendekar" "Amazon" is a word for women warriors. If that is what you're looking for. Really? Isn't Amazon is a name of a place? Forest?

That is not a universal truth, there are a lot of parts in the world are not open to you or you don't know about making you make such generalization of human history. The world is not only the west, and Muslims are not only Arabs. There are millions of peoples in the world with millions of cultures and belief. Even Christians are not the same everywhere because of the culture of the peoples but "Christians" stereotypically "westernized" Do you know that SEA have been hidden from the world in history actually have reach civilization since Pharaoh of Egypt bulding their pyramids and have trade relationship with Pharaohs? Just because we are not popular in your place doesn't mean we don't exist. And it doesn't make we are the same with you all in other part of the world. Wstern peoples always love to assume things that is why you people are easily to fall into propagandas...

Malays are not Indian, and in India transsexuals are called "hijra" as far as i know. Malay languange is 70% Sanskrit if you want to know, we don't talk Sanskrit but our language derived from it and mix with Arab, Chinese, Europeans and who know what else who visit us in the past, and so become Bahasa Melayu. SEA especially Melaka was a port cities and emporiums, that's why western people come here want to monopolize it Edit : to add : Malays are Aryan, Hitler was wrong, German is not Aryan at all, it's Malay

I bet you guys in the west don't even have a word for woman warrior isn't it?
-
We have many women warriors in history, just because your school don't teach our history doesn't mean it doesn't happen We have our own word for women warrior, we call them "Srikandi" We have many queens in history, also there's a specific custom that more align to women over men in Adat Pepatih. There's two custom, another one Adat Temenggong that is align to men over women. Most tribes using Adat Temenggong, but Adat Pepatih is recognized. The world is big, not just the west.... Oh, i forgot, when i say "we" i mean the whole SEA, meaning Malay people, not specific of modern nationality (in which exist only after WW2)

I figured it out... Why RPGs seem to be going down hill.
Qistina replied to Luridis's topic in Computer and Console
In game books, we don't have controllers, we don't have keyboard and mouse, but we have dice or some sort of table with numbers on it You must determine your stats, then embark the adventure, playing your role in the game...throwing dice or using the table when in combat or when doing something such as picking locks That's RPG Pushing button and then awesome things happen is not RPG -

No, that's Role Playing, but not a Game In Role Playing Game, you build your character, that's why there's stats, attributes, items and so on, all these are to build the character you are role playing Let say you are playing an Elf who are stereotypically an excellent archer, your character have a bonus +1 attack with bow, how excellent your character be is depend on how you build your character, not your own flexibility, not on how well you are using the controller/mouse That's the real Role Playing Game It's like Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone Fighting Fantasy game books -

Qistina replied to Luridis's topic in Computer and Console
True, but playing a role doesn't require your own strength, agility, cunning, wisdom, charisma...... Based on you are not your character. If the game need my own flexibily, if i suck and not being flexible, then my character also suck because i suck, so what role i am playing Example, i choose a Wood Elf in Skyrim, it said that Wood Elves are excellent archers in Tamriel, so my character must be good in archery, but my flexibily is bad, i am not fast enough to aim with my mouse and clicking, so why my character who supposed to be good at archery ALWAYS MISS SHOOTING MOVING TARGETS? It is not because my character suck, it is because i suck, it is i who is not well enough using the controls So that's not playing a role of a race who stereotypically an excellent archer. But still, there's a role, and that is why it is a game with RPG element but not RPG itself -

Deus Ex is a better RPG than most 'pure rpgs', in just about every facet. Such games are games with RPG elements, not an RPG -
i found it funny in the west women fighting in battle is an issue, it is not in my place, we have woman admiral in history who command an armada fighting Portuguese and Dutch.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keumalahayati

It is because of kids, kids who want actions, kids cannot stand watching their avatar fighting, kids want to push the button and awesome things happen, to satisfy their ego Those who really enjoyed RPG dice rolling mechanic are actually older people, the ones who want relax and watching stuff happen, who is more using their brain to think rather than depending on impulse to reflex Old school RPGs are like chess, it's slow, you need to estimate, calculate, make your move and see what happen. Kids don't like that. Kids want to involve in actions, kid want their friends say "you are really good!!! You are awesome!!!" when they manage to beat the big boss of the game, it is because they beat the boss with their skills and reflexes, so they are awesome guys/girls simply because they are awesome themselves, those who are not good will be laughed and be called "noobs" because their relex is so slow and suck at playing the game, it is simply because they are suck themselves. Games today are created to satisfy the kids ego, so thsese kids can brag about how awesome they are and thus encourage marketing -

The way people understand is they have an avatar to play, therefore it's an RPG -

Many confuse between "Role Playing" and "Game Mechanic" Warrior, Mage, Thief and everything from these are game mechanic, character classes. Few games really making you play the role of these classes, mostly it just a cosmetic by means your role in the game is nothing about your character class Example, DA have a mix of game mechanic and role where they make a Mage class is also a role, in DA Mages are born as such, so you pick up a Mage class you also pick up your role. However, in DA:O, your role as a Mage is very little, only in the origin, later your role is one of the last surving Grey Warden in Ferelden. Other classes have no significant with your role in that world. In Skyrim, no matter what build you choose, it is NOT your role in the world, your main role is the last Dragonborn, your optional role is depended on whatever faction you joined. In Oblivion, your role is a messenger, later a support hero. Similar like Skyrim, your optional role depended on faction you joined. Your classes is not your role in that world In KotOR, your role is a Jedi. In KotOR 2, your role is a broken Jedi In Diablo, your role is an adventurer who decide to help destroy the evil. Your classes is not your role in that world. Role Playing is playing a ROLE, not playing classes -

You do know that combat is a part of this mythical “role-playing” that’s supposed to exist in RPGs, right? You can fight like a fighter, hide in shadows/pick locks with your thief, cast spells with mages, priests etc... Didn't mean to also quote you, Caesar. Is Call of Duty an RPG? I said, story is the backbone of RPG, which part you don't understand? -
I wonder how you guys makes stories i mean, i means do you guys making story first or the map first? Putting some dots on the map and then decide what is the story going on in the area of the map or making story frame first then plotting it on the map?
