Thoughts on Gamescon Stream
Pray replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I've never played the original IE games, so perhaps I don't have the nostalgia effect. I'm just looking at it from a "do i want to play this game or not" feel. I do feel that the game needs a little bit more glamour - not so i have more "screen shaking," but that I can simply tell what my characters are doing, who they all are, and to get more feedback from the actions I am taking. That shouldn't be a bad thing, just because it's not like the original(s). -

Just a few more thoughts after watching this again - 1) Damage numbers need to be bigger and last a split second longer. 2) Spell casting needs the casters to have some preliminary spell effects. The animations are so weak that it's hard to really distinguish that "that guy's casting a spell" or not. -
1) The Game looks really awesome 2) On certain backgrounds, the characters look just god awful and hard to distinguish from the floor (the town road) 3) Some of the armor or cloth hey are wearing just looks so incredibly generic. This is a fantasy game. 4) The Characters need way more animation work. As someone who is just WATCHING, there is no cinematic feeling whatsoever as I can't even tell who is doing what. Spells are being cast, but I couldn't even tell who was casting what at first glance. Some particle effects would go a long way to really distinguish who is doing what. 5) What was with no traits/feats? Those are by far my biggest concerns. I cannot wait to play this game. I bring up only the negatives because why bring up all the awesome positives?

Streamers, Info Please!
Pray replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you do, and you're looking for ideas about some things to make, i'd be generally interested in character creation, feats/traits, level-ups, and the "advanced statistics" page. What is the youtube channel? -
Streamers, Info Please!
Pray posted a topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hey guys. If you're planning on streaming the beta, please post the following - Difficulty: Class's You Likely Focus on: Schedule: Name: Twitch Address: -
I really dont like that rangers are being pigeonholed into range. I know that's the typical lore, but with the idiot wizard and hyper intelligent barbarian being toted around, I was hoping a melee ranger build would be just as viable as a ranged one, but if we give them a 15+ accuracy at ranged, well that just in a sense, forces you into ranged. And my god I hope there are more pets than just that :D - Also, the wolf should really get a "Pack Animal" bonus, not a speed bonus. (More damage and defense when within proximity of the ranger, or something of that sort).

Suggestion: Health and stamina renaming
Pray replied to Ondb's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Sawyer already said stamina being renamed endurance. -
The way moving your character feels in the game can really make or break a game. A good feel makes the game feed silky and well polished, but a sluggish, poorly implemented pathing system makes the player feel hamstrung and bogged down in something that they should not even be thinking about. Good luck guys, do your best!

Feats and Traits ideas

I really don't like this from a roleplaying standpoint - The guy who hits really hard happens to kill people, but no, they dont get status effect impairments from getting smashed in the head - but that smart guy who doesn't hit very hard, well - he gives you one hell of a headache despite not killing you. It just seems a little silly to me. -
Companion Level-Ups and Mass Slaughter
Pray replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Maybe this sounds awful to a lot of you, but I hope a mod comes out that lets us re-roll our companions. I really like having control of every aspect of my champions. But I'm also one of those players who gets overwhelmed with too many party members, and probably wont run around with more than 4 or five total. -
I did not say might had to increase attack speed...
-
Is it just me or would others like to see some statistic linked to attack speed? Thematically, I don't like the brawn attacking as fast as the brain.

I agree with this attitude, but the super nerd in me enjoys making this stuff up. So here's another: Ranger's Patience - If the Ranger hasn't taken damage or received negative effects, or moved within the last 10 seconds, he receives a 50% chance to crit when flanking. (15+ Perception) -
Companion Level-Ups and Mass Slaughter
Pray replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I just remember back in the day you could strategically kill some NPC's or shop owners for their loot in games like Fallout or Arcanum. I never did it unless I could awesomely justify it in my head, but it was always fun to think about. That's good to hear on both accounts. I'd hate to have to kick away a companion I like because he/she simply did not fit my combat requirements. -

Just my two cents. At first I was a little put off by this because I'm one of those players that really likes to focus on the tactical combat. There will be little stealth in my group, and fighting will be our bread and butter. I'm one of those min-maxers that really enjoys slaughtering hordes and getting exp for it. Puzzles and stealth do not allure to me. But how the dialogue system works, and how there are no "bad" fighting builds, I'm actually excited to play the game this way. I can't just grind mobs, but will have to focus on optimizing equipment, handling quests proficiently, having to manage money (hopefully), and optimize my party in a way that works for me. As I plan to play on the hardest difficulty I can tolerate, I'm actually excited to try out the no exp for kills method.
