  1. She got pinged initially for her coach illegally coaching her from the stand via hand gestures which he admitted to doing post match but she probably did not see, and which she insisted at the time on court was not happening. She then broke her racket which was the second violation, and ranted at the umpire which was the third and which cost her a game. I don't think she has a leg to stand on in the 'hard done by' stakes- the penalties were all deserved- though obviously that was a tournament she would have wanted to win far more than most which would have contributed to her emotional response. She also has a history with that umpire, he's penalised her before. But all the ranting and sexism stuff was just incoherent emotional rambling immediately compromised by her coach admitting he had been coaching her from the stand, the accusation of which is what prompted her meltdown. Things are starting to come full circle... that is a really bad look. At any rate, congrats to Naomi Osaka, she won it handily regardless.
  2. I guess fleeting gestures are the wrong sort of gestures when seeking a life partner. Who would have thought?
  3. Well, I'm just going on what I could gather from that clip. It seemed to pick up at a point where she perceives a point was unfairly taken, then after which she get's emotional over it. It seemed also that she was frustrated that other players can mouth off much worse without incurring penalties and she felt like she deserved the chance to have a ruling reviewed. If it was just a warning that she went off over, then I can understand how she might be in the wrong.
  4. Not sure what is funny about this. Do they not use playback to clarify contentions? If she called him a thief under false perception that is no reason to punish her, if she was robbed of a point then the wordage was correct and was used to make the umpire understand the ramifications of the ruling. She is working hard to earn her results and needs to have the results be fair and correct. He can sit there calm and expert her to only engage with the same nonchalance towards time as he can. Really sad all around.
  5. Ingenuity at work. I didn't expect what are essentially soap bubbles to be leveraged in such a way.
  6. White woman got a little too much power and quality representation in the past few years apparently, so now they must be kicked down a notch and set aside. Why can't fictional individuals be treated with the same respect that a living individual would. We'd never take Anne Frank's or Jane Goodall's identity away from them.
  7. (Ciri's leaked casting call is for a BAME teenager...) Just saw. Fans of both the books and games seem pretty upset. Ciri appearance is introduced in the books with “She had fair hair, ashen white complexion and large impetuous green eyes.” As far as I know they isn't any authorial blessing with this, and is being done solely for marketing purposes and not anything to do with story changes. Which means the decision will inadvertently make the villainous faction minority invaders. Then there is the whole issue of taking Polish historical fiction and creating an exception to the appropriation rule because it's a historically "white" nation.
  8. I didn't realize Amalur was a game of such refined taste.
  9. Update: The Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan accidentally drowned in a bathtub after drinking.
  10. https://www.france24.com/en/20180904-saudi-arabia-declares-online-satire-punishable-offence Awful. What terrible values to hold. What terrible governance practices.
  11. I thought IWD2 barely even got released as a base game. Publishing troubles were hitting it fairly hard, a reason projects earlier in the pipe like BG3 and FO3 were canned. I've read or crossed some more in depth history over the years, but don't really recall where to source it. I think Josh may of talked a bit about the struggles of the project in his talk about crunch time and improving industry productivity.
  12. People A doing thing B to achieve thing C is different than People X doing Thing Y to achieve Thing Z. I do agree the moment is a testament to what humanity can achieve when they apply thing B to achieve things L,M,N,O,P. As an American and as a human I'm proud of the achievement. It's not mine, it was other people's. But I get to share in the legacy. Nobody shares Andrew Wiles or Albert Einstein's achievement, but we get to benefit from the legacy and we too can venture into uncharted territories of both knowledge and achievement. We all inherit the legacy of B and a free to take up it's torch. I do find it odd how so many modern people (by which I mean more so those of which who choose to operate in a public spotlight) often can't balance the distinction between individual achievement, group achievement, human testament, and inherited legacy. Perhaps a focused film could get distracted trying to do all of that, but you'd think at the very least the viewers and critics could capture that distinction post-facto. Rarely does this occur in the public spotlight, rarely do people take the opportunity for the more interesting conception. Rarely are people honest over that which is non-explicit.
  13. That's a really good pick actually.
  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gABW21GkFw8 Best weird thing I've seen as of late.
  15. Trump is mostly a branding anyways, without his branding he wouldn't secure the loans for his real-empire. His brand brings in enough profit which pays interest on the loans, then when he needs to he can declare bankruptcy and start over. The bank basically just reclaims it's assets and re-purposes the real estate without his branding once things go sour. So he really is just a branding front for the banks' real estate ventures.
  16. The Pillars' scores are amongst my favorite I've heard from games recently. They have a tone and mood all their own. The opening sequence of Pillars 1 is still so memorable in my mind.
  17. DQ11. It looks to be fairly archaic, but solid. It has a 3DS version which is a graphically simplified version. But the 3DS version can either be in 3D or classic DQ 2D. Which is wild. I'll say this game has some of the better character designs that I've seen come out of Japan in a hot minute.
