  1. I'm all for as many animations improvements as they can irk out. Especially for the main cast. But some details won't really be all that noticeable in the end.
  2. As I understood you wrote, you don't need representation or that representation is insulting or bad. My point is not everyone thinks that way. Representation can be very powerful, especially if your identity doesn't get represented a lot or usually not in a good light. My argument you shouldn't need mediums to cater precisely to you and your sensibilities for you to enjoy it. That they shouldn't just be mirrors all the time. That just because you pay for something, doesn't not mean that you should expect that thing to be made for you. I draw the corollary that in Star Wars, and medium that we all have a expectations and preconceived notions of, we still want to be confronted with unknowns out of our control. My argument ultimately is that you shouldn't form entitlements. (At least, and especially, to luxury goods.) As far as representation, I believe it's very important to have it but also that it shouldn't be necessary or fundamental in the enjoyment of something. Additive to one's enjoyment, but not fundamental. But my main point in bringing up representation was that entitlements can pit the underrepresented against themselves. As much as straight people are represented, gays are a far better represented minority than many many others. So well represented that it's pushed to the forefront of the mediums instead of just being a side note to the character. My ultimate argument here is that entitlements even fail to be justified when the goal is of better representation, because entitlements lead to self-serving objections, demands, and expectations.
  3. The US gov. has undercover plants in many hate groups. If Google can host something and pretend like it's turning a blind eye. Then they can silently keep tabs on the groups. Leftists love to take the cynical "Google = alt-right, Google = Greed" but I think it's far more nuanced. Also Google doesn't know half of what it's hosting until something becomes a household name, and when something is audited, silencing something unprompted can often back fire. Surely open hatred should merit prompting but unfortunately it doesn't... so I think the way they go about it already the best charted way.
  4. The Counter-Protesters actually helped with that on Sunday and today... Almost like it's our town and we actually give a damn about it or something. Very apt avatar.
  5. Dominant, athletic, tough, independent, win against the odds, be the hero, get the girl. The archetype of a man. What men should be like. What men want to be like. Not all men, of course. Not as many as they used to be. But this is still a widespread ideal. Do you think it's a coincidence that so many movies, games and other media have straight white male protagonists? Do you think the same types of characters over and over make for the best and new experiences? Do you think it's fun for women to see themselves portrayed as damsels to be rescued or sexy prizes to be won again and again? Do you not understand how empowering it feels then to be a heroine who isn't reduced to her attractiveness? What's with the leading questions that don't at all relate or follow from what I was talking about?
  6. Well, it has been this animated, public, and emboldened. Just not for half a century. Why? It's not like anything but the bottom line matters to go daddy anyway. If you're going for the cynical frame of thought, they have to uphold their terms of service which must be law abiding.
  7. I grew up on a History channel that still had lots of US Veterans featured and loved to syndicate Band of Brothers. History channel now scrapes the bottom of the barrel for viewership.
  8. In CRPGs already give major choices. But that still doesn't preclude large swaths of predetermined content. I'm not changing the geology, cities, cultures. I'm not changing who I get to interact with. As far as I'm concerned it's laying out a world in which you are given autonomy in. It's not trying to let you play god and pre-seeding what that world might throw at you. Now the idea of pre-tailoring a game is an interesting one. I don't think that has really ever been done. If a game did feature that, I'm sure that component would be heavily marketed. In a CRPG you get to choose what content you experience, but all of that content is laid out prior to be potentially experienced based on player choice.
  9. When I went to The Force Awakens, I went expecting Star Wars and an honest effort at creating a good film that respects that established universe. I didn't go in expecting it to cater to me. I don't want it to cater to me, I want it to tell a story that unfolds before me. So why does a game have to be a mirror that caters to me. It's almost insulting. You don't buy a game because you know every plot point and mechanic, you buy it to experience something unknown. No part of the consumer process promises everything that you are going to get. It's a voluntary transaction of which there are unknowns. Never mind, sales exist to recoup expenses and risk. Movies and games are all funded ahead. So with Pillars, you aren't just representing any single backer anyways. When you backed, you backed knowing that things would be out of your control. That certain unknowns would remain unknown until launch. I don't think entitlement comes from just privilege. I think entitlement comes from a lack of perspective and often willful ignorance. People are certainly entitled over things they shouldn't be, especially luxuries like games. Man speaking about representation. Everyone is so transfixed on identities. But were are the traditional Turkish, Indian, non-diaspora Blacks that aren't historic set pieces? Entitlement even exists in the less represented but still represented identity groups. Very few people want to embody a universal ideal, they just want to live in an epoch of their own golden age. It's a bad mentality, entitlement.
  10. There is no doubt that Trump's messaging has given confidence and leash to the ethno-nationalists. He knows who his base is and he knows who he has in-part galvanized behind him. Could he be playing some "high-level utilitarian game to lure them out?" I doubt it it, and if so I don't see any evidence that that is better than being brutally honest. You don't counter the problems of the left by swinging this far over. If anything the left has created the centrists and neoliberals by their actions. The far right is responsible for themselves, and are not the left's just deserts.
  11. Except that they want those southern symbols of leadership to be symbols of white supremacy that match their beliefs. Exactly.
  12. Lee's views on slavery were not even progressive for his time. So it's not like he was an abolitionist that was merely defending southern sovereignty. The noble aspects of southern culture can always be reborn under new symbols of leadership; to mark a clean separation from the collective sin. Instead people want to hide under the "glory" of the form slave states. Which is shameful. The people taking to the streets to act out righteous southern indignation are shameful. Even if some see Lee in a good light, does not mean he is worthy of being a bastion of pride. I see efforts to enshrine him as either being out of ignorance or out of political spite seeking justification for socio-political obstruction.
  13. Separating prisons by sex is standard. That is my point. It appears I've been bamboozled!
  14. The only good 2D -> 3D conversion I've seen is Lion King 3D,
  15. I just mean it would be weird if that was a mechanic since there are no carry limits in the first place.
  16. Hopefully it's more than just planting bombs. I'd love to plant incriminating evidence or other afflicting substances/devices. Maybe talisman of impotence on a stuck up noble.
