  1. So, you Brits don't consider yourself European? What then? Sorry to disappoint you, but you're not special. [...] Plus there's a shedload of cultural aspects to it. Most of the people I know from the continent tend to think of the UK as "seperate, but kind of hanging onto the outskirts" of Europe 'proper' rather then as a concrete part of it. Which is, of course, incorrect. BUT it stems directly from a lingering attitude of the superiority of the British Empire. Then again, it begs the question: So is Australia part of Europe? No, dumbass, it's a totally different continent on the other side of the planet.
  2. Jesus Christ. Just reminds you that America of the past was just the lesser of two evils. I mean it's not really any different to the logic that killing tens of thousands of civilians in one go with nuclear bombs is a viable way to end a war. Killing civilians is a war crime, no? Then again, the Japanese were halfway through developing nuclear weapons themselves... oh god, imagine if they had of achieved them first... ****. Nevermind, ignore what I said. Go America!
  3. It begs the question: why the **** release a demo that doesn't do the game justice? A bit like shooting yourself in the foot. Oh well, it's good to hear.
  4. The poll forces you to choose an option for the pre-order bit. However, as I never pre-order games, that left me in a position of choosing between two options which don't fit my situation. I imagine this is true for many other people too.
  5. My data amounts to my name, date of birth, the schools I went to, a city I once lived in, and a list of people I may or may not be friends with in real life. I can't think of anything sinister they (whoever they are) would do with that, and saying if only you knew... isn't the least bit helpful. So again, what are people putting on their FB pages that is so problematic? Credit card fraud. Multiple other types of identity theft/fraud.
  6. Of course there are countries where it doesn't apply. But to my mind these seem very much to be exceptions to the rule. For instance, any country where population dynamics are significantly influenced by government policy won't match this model (e.g. China). Not sure what this thread is about anymore, so I may have jumped in at the wrong spot leading to us arguing two different points.
  7. Correct. Somehow I still enjoyed the game (although it took longer to complete than most games due to boredom). I think the pretty settings and beautiful music of DS1 somehow sucked me in. DS2 lacked these things but made it for it with a much stronger plot and more RPG elements.
  8. Those are usually stress related. E.g. lack of sleep, excessive concentration for hours (an exam, coding a programme).
  9. But you are disappointed. That's obvious. DS3 is not what you wanted. Shame, but just move on. You haven't bought it, you even got to play a demo in advance so you know it's not up your alley and don't have to spend money to figure that out. Really, it's a win-win situation for you. I doubt your life happiness is tied to how good DS3 is or anything. Me, I enjoyed the demo and will buy it, possibly pending a better control scheme.
  10. It's hardly revisionism when the majorty of people who've played the demo genuinely enjoyed it.
  11. The majorty of people like the game. Those who are unimpressed seem to be the vocal minority. Moreover, the biggest gripe is the control scheme (which, tbh, isn't so bad), and last Obsidian game with a control scheme problem (NWN2), Obsidian patched in a better control scheme. The game seems polished (PC controls aside) and promising.
  12. Sorry, sorry, got a bit worked up ey.
  13. Vocal minority which does not represent the majority who enjoyed the demo (except for the control issues) judging by the polls I've seen on a few forums.
  14. The children. Won't somebody please think of the children?
  15. I will express myself visually. I believe this art installation in Norway is particularly poignant.
  16. Me too! I do hope Obsidian patches in a better PC control scheme though.
  17. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographic_transition One of the better Wikipedia articles out there. Worth a read.
  18. My thoughts are that the Subliminal and Matt-C accounts are probably owned by the same troll.
  19. Well, the less simple gamers do. I think the fact that story-driven games are wildly successful in the marketplace is pretty obvious evidence.
  20. The photo you were looking for no longer exists
  21. An excellent post. Most countries have atrocities and genocides lurking in their past. The most successful ones are those that have faced up to that fact, apologised, and made amends (my own country is no exception).
  22. Comparison? I made no comparison. What I said is certainly correct, though. If you disagree, could you please explain why?
  23. I really hate that attitude. "If you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about." It's exactly the sort of logic people use to justify things like government spying. Excuse me if I value my privacy and my legal and human right to it. But there are many other issues at play here: for example, suppose somebody wanted to stalk you or commit identity theft (e.g. credit card fraud, which is depressingly common). Are you able to see how providing the information Hurlshot provides on Facebook makes these things trivially easy? And what about the numerous cases of employers checking Facebook pages before hiring someone, or lawyers using Facebook photos to justify some case against someone in court? There are privacy features which I KNOW used to exist in Facebook (been on it since 2005) which were important and useful but have now been removed. That's chilling. The implication is "we think you shouldn't have as much control over your data and privacy (because it gets in the way of us using your data for advertising and money-making purposes)".
