  1. Oh, they've got a new album? Awesome, cheers!
  2. Facebook cannot retain your data for more than around a year, depending on your jurisdiction (often less, 9 months). You are able to close your Facebook account and download all the data Facebook has stored about you (although it is painful). The bigger question is: are you really silly enough to want to stay with the company you just admitted is completely untrustworthy? I would personally advise changing all your Facebook profile data to incorrect things before leaving, too (gender, date of birth, relationship status, etc) and then hiding all information on your Facebook account from anybody but you.
  3. btw, I <3 this xkcd
  4. I recommend you guys listen to Sydney band The Jezabels. They will blow your mind. Mace Spray, Hurt Me, and Easy To Love are some of my favourites. http://www.thejezabels.com/media/
  5. High as a giant gorilla atop the Empire State. It's just something that has always interested me. A lot of people dislike it because they don't understand it, but then I notice they either had horrible maths teachers or never bothered to even try at it. But hey, what do I know, I only tutored kids in it for 2 years and study it as my second science major. None of which disproves my 'high as an exploded suicide bomber' theory. You have obviously just been high quite a long time. I am confused. I think once people start describing maths majors as permanently high, the word starts to lose its negative connotations. Which is fine by me. Rock on, I'm high!
  6. Google and Citigroup are investing hundreds of millions more in wind farms as a stable source of investment growth: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-06-22/c...dded-phase.html The wind farm will have a capacity of 1,550 megawatts. Which is equivalent to a large nuclear power station.
  7. I would trust Google with my privacy and respecting my personal rights and bounds any day of the week over Facebook or Microsoft or Apple.
  8. OK, got Google+ now and have invites. PM me your email address if you would like one. Closing my Facebook account at the same time to pressure others to shift haha.
  9. That's not really much of a reason. It is the most important reason, and it actually counts for a heck of a lot. Been living under a rock? But sure, here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/234825/9_re..._to_google.html Also, I now have a Google+ account, so if anyone wants an invite, PM me your email address.
  10. I find it hilarious that people can't see that forums like this ARE social media, and they're what inspired things like Facebook.

  12. Oh really? http://www.pcworld.com/article/234797/goog...ane_demand.html "Google+ Invite Process Shut Down Amid 'Insane Demand'" It's only been around for oh 2 days. I think you would make a horrible market prognosticator.
  13. And why is Google+ any better? Because it's not Facebook.
  14. Dump it. Switch to Google+. Facebook is ****.
  15. I love maths. It's beautiful, easy, and useful.
  16. Haha!
  17. Oh, you mean the scientists? No. The doomsayers. Some of whom are scientists. The people who say that we are going to see mass extinctions, and public deaths in the tens of milions. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/ci...ange-scepticism One of the strongest things yet to convince me that climate change is as bad as we all fear: when the insurance industry starts lobbying FOR action on climate change to protect their bottom line. Somebody has obviously done the maths on how much they're going to lose from claims due to climate change and they didn't like what they found.
  18. Oh, you mean the scientists?
  19. wilkommen to the interwebz! wilkommen to ze intarwebz! [fixed] Willkommen auf der Internet! [fixed]
  20. If I ever meet you I'll control-alt-delete you.
  21. Oh so you missed all those solar companies building various projects (with and without government funding)? Sigh. This is why we can't have nice things. And business is a **** barometer when the action to take to prevent something bad needs to be taken early. Business is far more likely to go "ooooh, ****, oil is ****ing our bottom line, let's switch to a technology that is consistent and predictable! ooooh ****, if we wanted to do that we would've had to have built this **** 5 or 10 years ago man! we boned."
  22. You've got white-out all over your screen.
  23. Um, do you even understand what autism is? There's every chance this guy well and truly does have an ASD. And certainly the IT industry in general has a disproportionately large number of people with ASD (especially Asperger's). It also has lots of people with ADHD curiously, but that's not relevant here.
  24. If you are all so happy why do you need to go on (a) bleating about it and (b) invading Europe in clapped-out camper vans? a) Because we're smug bastards b) Because Europeans are funny and we like your cultures. And we obviously also like camper vans. I guess.
  25. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian...x-1226082896611 Excellent read for anybody who wants a feel for where the world market for phones is heading. Australia is tends to be a testbed for new technologies due to the huge amount of early tech adopters and large disposable incomes, and thus an early indicator of global market trends. In this case, those trends indicate Nokia and Windows Phone OS are dead, and that Android is about to cream Apple. Android market share in Australia has gone from 2.1% to 29.7% in 1 year. Also, people don't buy basic phones anymore: it's all smartphones baby.
