Really? I thought you were in your early 20's. I suppose the crude jokes about my mum should have raised a red flag or two.

Dayum, I'm jealous.

I watched the Collingwood-Essendon game. The Bombers got pwned by 73pts. That is a lot of points. Still, it beats losing by a single behinder.

I thought it was just me. Thought maybe it's because I was 8 to 14 when I played all the good games, so maybe games these days aren't as good because I'm older and my brain is wired differently or things aren't as new and fresh to me any more. Actually, it's probably a mix of games these days sucking, and me being older. *goes back to playing Jazz Jackrabbit*

I prostrate myself before you, IT gurus

Hahahahaha! OMG that is priceless. It's like one of the weight loss adds where they use camera angles, make-up, baggy clothing vs swimwear, and a beach vs a cramped room as the set, to make it look like there was some amazing loss of weight and sudden marked increase in beauty. -

I can't help but think that much of this is created by bad-hype by thousands of people who try to look tech-savvy (and fail) or have no foundation on the planet earth. By this I don't mean people like you Krezack since you did come with a well-reasoned post, but the people for whom it is a gut instinct and whom have no actual experience with it or even proper knowledge of it, there are a lot of these people in my experience and it irks me. No, I suppose that probably does describe me a bit. While I harbour no irrational ill-will towards Microsoft and have no desire to see the company fail, I am generally quite disappointed in their 'evil' marketing strategies and the general lack of improvement Vista provides over XP for the average user (more than anything it would seem Vista was designed as a quick cash cow because the company is built around releasing a new OS every 4 years). Anyway, I guess this translates as a less than reasoned vehemence in the relative uselessness of Vista, when in fact it does have some advantages and in the end is not really worse than XP... just not better either. But let it be known that bad word of mouth alone is not what is hurting Vista. I recall a very similar reaction to XP, but in the end much of the bad press turned out to be trivial, unfounded or fixed with patches and positive word of mouth took over. In the case of Vista, a fair chunk of the problems which generated the bad press remain, most importantly the seemingly insurmountable problem of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". The funny thing is, this is probably the first time people have felt this way towards Microsoft - they genuinely had something good going with XP and even the hardcore Linux fans tend to acknowledge that. (I'm not counting 98SE2 because I really believe XP offers significant improvements, especially in stability.) Edit: Oh, did I mention Microsoft is releasing their next OS in 2010? I dunno... could be worth holding off on Vista for this reason alone. You decide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7 Here's a screenshot of one of the current Windows 7 Alphas. Look familiar? I'm actually interested in it for the MinWin feature which apparently uses only 40mb memory max and is command-line based. -
Neither did I. And yeah, hope everybody had a good ANZAC day.

Could you elaborate on who these baby-eating communists are that want to ban it? Also, do you know if they have harmful effects on these babies or are they just annoying them? I think it generally makes sense. It is unfair to use a weapon that doesn't discriminate targets. These weapons hit everybody below the age of 30 essentially. Still, I'm not going to lose any sleep if the weapon isn't banned. http://news.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/15/026209

Awesome melee! Good job!

Ah, I thought that sounded familiar; my instructor taught me part of that for defence and offence with knife attacks. Most of the defensive stances for knife attacks involve using the person's own force with their knife to kill them (or at least stab/slash them). And yeah, I agree it sounds like good secret agent stuff, but I'd also like plenty of non-lethal options, even when diplomacy fails. -

That reminds me of the spy TV series Burn Notice. That Irish chick is so violently sexy. -

Sounds good! I'm feeling quite pumped about this game, especially the description of melee combat. -
To be honest, I felt like a piece of my soul had been removed when I went to leave an area in BG2 and my party was scattered. I sat there for a while just waiting, nay, hoping to hear the narrator's voice, but alas... my hopes forever shattered.

I hope I am remembering correctly and not accidentally misrepresenting Josh's take on the matter. Anyhoo, good to hear your thoughts on item histories. I love the little details in games. From an overly long and sarcastic definition of a rock (Fallout), to item histories and character personality idiosyncrasies.

I always thought Pidesco was young (early 20's), Tigranes was older (late 20's, early 30's), Gorth was early 30's, shryke was mid 30's, Krookie was mid 20's, Muso was late 20's, etc. Yes. I only had 10 options but wanted to try and represent sufficiently different levels of experience, maturity, and culture. E.g. you might say a 27 year old is as mature as a 32 year old, but they still were born at different times (which means slightly different world views). But really, in the end, it was a fairly arbitrary arithmetic sequence and I didn't see the problem in breaking it at the start and end.

*shrug* tbh I think the criticisms aimed at Vista, while some have been alleviated with patches and service packs, generally still hold and are valid reasons to hold off on upgrading. I believe Vista has about a 10% market share as of Feb 2008. That's an absolutely appalling figure considering it is one year old. XP reached 30% in the first year after its release. It has forced Microsoft to step back and unlock XP sales again. The thing is people are happy with XP. It works. It does what they want. They feel no need to replace it, and even when they get the option to, many opt for XP again because they know it's reliable. I am of this camp, and I'll stick with XP until Ubuntu overtakes it and Vista (which will probably be 2010 or so). Microsoft will release Service Pack 3 for XP in 4 days. Monte: 1 TB of HD space is always good. But check the HD speed. You want over 7000 RPM (I believe it's typically 7200). Two graphics cards so I'm guessing it is SLI? Nice RAM speed... 2.4 gHz for one core is fine (these days it's not CPU speed that matters so much, it is RAM speed, cache speed, HD speed, GPU speed, things like that). -

That and there's little point to installing it. My advice to anybody who is used to XP or currently has XP is to stick with XP. -

Don't get Vista unless you specifically need dual-core functionality (here's a hint: you don't yet, even if you have two cores). Reformat with XP. (Or even Kubuntu/XP dual boot!) Gorgon: No way. Macs have a Darwin UNIX core, similar to linux. They're better for poking around in than Windows is, arguably. Especially NT-based OS'es like 2000, XP, and Vista. On the software side, at least. -
Your profile says you're 27.

Well, it's almost time for the big one man. What are you gonna do? I wanna go paintballing for my 21st, and then we can all drink our bruises away at the pub afterwards, and then start a fight club when we're sufficiently un-lucid. Arg I wanna sleep so bad but can't fall asleep because there's this chronic dull stabbing pain in my chest near my left rib... ribs. I think it's from hunger (damn stimulant medications makes you forget you need to eat for a good 6 hours or so) so I am trying to eat until I explode.

Why, because they're the most expensive? -
Somehow this place makes me feel like a toddler at times. To confirm my suspicion about the age distribution in this place, please take part in the poll. Oh, and I'm 20 for the record. Turned 20 ten days ago.

This device has been around for years. They're close to banning it because it doesn't discriminate (i.e. attacks nearby babies as well as rowdy 14 year olds equally).

In his defence, he was accidentally omitted initially.
