  1. Sorry about your dog.
  2. Hey, does it ever, like, bother you that every second word out of your mouth is a shameless lie? Oh snap.
  3. Is this article true? http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1645 Did Bioware really one-up even Microsoft in terms of idiotic DRM? Boycott time if so. To quote a Slashdot comment on the issues: http://games.slashdot.org/games/08/05/07/1523242.shtml
  4. Eek I forgot one: 8 - 11
  5. lol
  6. It's not "my approach," it's my interpretation of the evidence (see my various posts with extensive quoting from the GI article). If you would like to counter my evidence or interpretation thereof, go right ahead. 'Evidence' hey? Well if you don't mind I'll wait till we have something more tangible than speculation before I lament the distribution of weapons.
  7. Maybe! 90 minutes of Basketball would certainly tire me out and I am used to running for much longer. Remember basketball exercises the whole body, not just cardio, though. Gromnir is basically correct but overstating things. Most studies I've reviewed suggest that the benefits of exercise only taper or have prohibitive risk of injury and such at very high cardio levels. We're talking more things like more than 90 minutes of very intensive cardio. The point is to stay always stay just slightly above your comfort zone and not to push yourself too far at first. So if you're used to 2 hours of non-stop jogging then it isn't going to be a problem, but for somebody not used to it, they may well be doing themselves more harm than good. They should instead build up to it through lighter and less intensive exercises. But it is important to remember in exercising that most of the benefits tend to be garnered when your muscular and vascular systems are stressed; staying within your comfort zone doesn't really do this.
  8. Jackie Chan's family live in Australia though, don't they? Last night I had a dream that Bioware got a new forum but hadn't told anybody yet and I found it through Google and then at the sign-up you also had the option to apply as a Moderator so I did so and apparently used my real-life Curriculum Vitae. And then Krookie commented on it with, "That explains a few things." And I was the 25th member. Then it transformed into me serenading Bioware employees outside a building and I got the job and went on a tour of the facility but it was actually a high-school with hot babes.
  9. That's actually a tautology for Archie. More like "I only drink."

  10. I can take comfort in the knowledge that few if any RPGs to date have really bothered with Cycloneman's approach, likely due mostly to the reasons I explained above. Heck I recall a few Fallout devs once discussing how they should have merged throwing and melee to make the two skills a contender for a ranged skill (as throwing on its own was all but useless). Give me the Fallout/SS2/DX system of weapon groupings any day. And I lol'd even harder at Cycloneman's comment about crossbows being primitive and useless. I know many people who use and own crossbows these days (for sport, hunting, and show), not to mention the various designs from fast-reload, mini-crossbows, bowguns, multi-shot, scoped, long-range, explosive bolts, tranq bolts, cyanide bolts... They are as illegal as handguns over here because they are just as deadly (which I presume you are aware since these days nobody wears plate armour). A crossbow makes for an effective early-game weapon for the small arms weapon skill, but also maintains use later as a sniper weapon, a stealth weapon, and a deadly back-up where faster weapons may fail. Indian special forces use crossbows with cyanide-tipped bolts since they are quieter than silenced handguns.
  11. I tend to agree. Achievements are generally implemented in a way that is both boring and arbitrary. They (generally) don't "push your skills to the limit"; they are just there because that's the 'in thing' on consoles these days. Perhaps if developers could learn to implement them more smoothly and less grindingly, like sporadic minigames, it wouldn't be so bad.
  12. I badly want an EEE. Perfect for coding baby. Still, my old Toshiba Tablet PC had a certain coating or something that made it anti-glare, Wals. I used it outside a lot. Point is, the technology is old and should be readily available.
  13. It should obviously be mentioned that only wussies use that "fix" and those that do won't recieve their copies of DNF when they reach the state of bliss that is gained when one transcends gaming and becomes one with the gamesource. Yeah, I reckon the respawns have made my game more fun. BG1 has low-xp, high-damage enemies, so it makes the game more of a challenge but keeps the run-away XP rewards minimal. It was OK, but if you've ever played Icewind Dale or even Torment, that tells you how much more awesome IE dungeons can be.
  14. That is a terrible set-up. Most of these are highly distinct weapons. Which of these are similar enough to warrant lumping them together? • A medium-range lightweight weapon that is useful for firing in short bursts and not terribly lethal, but is accurate enough for headshots. • A medium-range archaic weapon that has a long reload time, and is stupid because people should not be using such horribly outdated weaponry. • A short-range blast weapon useful for taking out nearby enemies very quickly, but with a prohibitive reload time. • A long-range accuracy focused weapon useful for taking out enemies from a distance. • A medium-range weapon that deals significant damage to a target over time but cannot really be useful if you hop out from behind cover, shoot, then hop back. • A short-range weapon which will deal continuous damage to anyone hit by it, even after the user stops using it. • A long-range weapon that deals extreme damage to anyone caught in it's blast radius, but can be dodged by simply moving while it slowly closes the distance. • A melee-range weapon useful for dealing damage to nearby foes as well as disarming them. • A long-range weapon which can bounce around corners and deal massive damage in an area, but is extremely difficult to use properly. It's got less to do with similarity and much more to do with arbitrary groupings to ensure variety, balance and fun. Shall we simply omit any weapons that don't fall directly into categories for 'pistol', 'rifle' or 'shotgun'? Or shall we have a different category for every single weapon?
  15. No TuTu. Am using some fan-made professional bug-fixes though (similar to Baldurdash for BG2). Come to think of it, spawns did seems to auto-respawn (with no cooldown) since I installed those. Pope: yeah that's the reason I did it. Fire arrows galore.
  16. Um, as far as I can tell, she really was dead. I believe they expand on this later on.
  17. So I just tackled Firewine Ruins with a level 5 party. Me and Imoen are level 6 but that hardly counts since we're bards/thieves. Still, I think the game thinks it does, since every time I walked down one corridor, I'd run into about 10 kobold commandos with fire arrows. They're harmless by themselves, but 10 of them can knock down then hp of most of your group members by a small amount. That also is harmless. The problem is that whenever you backtrack anywhere, another 10 have instantly respawned, and it gets to the point that everybody is down to 10% hp, no heals left, no magic missiles left, and your party is scattered between three different kobold respawn points, so you can't rest without sending a character into a room full of 10 kobolds that auto-target that one character with fire arrows. Did I mention fire arrows have +2 to hit and do 2 to 12 damage? Anyway, it's over. Phew. The game got a bit laggy there at one point, though, when Xan ended up casting skull trap twice because he cast it and ran the first time, killing about 15 kobolds, only to find that because he retreated for a second, the room respawned and thus needed another skull trap.
  18. Pffft. Helo has always been decent. I think you guys fail to differentiate between "lack of skill" and a passive demeanour. Helo, Dualla... they aren't usually MEANT to be at the forefront of the script. They are all-round nice guys that back-up the rest of the cast (like the explosive Starbuck, two-timing Lee, hedonistic Baltar, insane Roslin, charismatic Adama, etc). Helo was going to be killed off in the miniseries (because of the above) but the fans liked him so much. Although Moore stated that all the cast will develop towards a darker path this series, and I guess that Helo sparking mutiny is one such example (not to mention Tori killing Cally, Tyrol about to blow his brains out, Roslin turning dictator, etc). In fact, Baltar seems the only one so far who has taken a more supportive, uplifting, positive path. But I expect there's much more to that yet to come.
  19. nom nom nom Vote 1) for thumbs! 1 - 3 2 - 4 3 - 5 4 - 6 5 - 16 6 - 13 7 - 2
  20. Moore has said so much conflicting stuff over the past 2 years that I generally ignore any claims like that; they've a 50/50 chance of being true. I.e. they're useless. At this point it wouldn't even surprise me if Roslin were a cylon. Still, that little 'music' comment of Starbuck's was telling. Dualla is hot, but yeah - her acting is a bit stiff and she's not as 'fun' or emotional as she could be. I mean, Helo is probably her male counterpart, but he still manages to be awesome.
  21. I would personally prefer few, but distinct combat skills. E.g. small/simple guns (pistols, crossbows, etc), small 2-handed guns (shotgun, rifle, machine-gun), big guns (plasma rifle, RPG, flamethrower, grenade launcher), melee (including grenades and unarmed).
  22. Why did Starbuck say "the music was so clear there [near the nebula]"? I did a double-take when I heard that.
  23. Is that American for 'skipping ropes'? Does anybody know how good skipping ropes are for cardio? I heard they're good, and they're rather fun I admit, but what about the knees? Do they cause more or less damage than running, would you say? All that jumping.
  24. You just inspired me to spend my free time making maille. By the looks of a google search, it's doable, but time-consuming and rewarding. Sounds fun... I've always wanted a chain mail shirt. I'll use titanium and have super-strong, light-weight armour.
  25. Hey, just a quick question from somebody who soon plans to buy NWN2/MotB: is dialogue scripted? If so, will it trigger on the first party member the script sees, or the party leader? One thing I hated about IWD2 was having my diplomat sorc at the back to avoid death, but having my dumb barbarian activate all dialogues because he's at the front.
