  2. I also want a revolver magnum. It would have 17 chambers (prime numbers are important) and shoot ionised gas.
  3. I can assure you that Aussie coffee is nothing to write home about. Significant amounts of Malt Whiskey and whipped cream are to be considered essential supplements I think that's characteristic of coffee in general. Tea is most certainly where it's at.
  4. Bioware romances in general are tremendously laughable.
  5. Why? I think people are simply paranoid because that's the way big tech companies of the past have acted. There's little evidence Google acts that way and ample evidence they don't. It's always good to be cautious about a company gaining more power, but along with that cautiousness comes the need to eventually determine whether it is actually warranted. Edit: It's good to see Google finally compare the rumours, but I'll stick with Ubuntu for now. I might get a netbook if my current jobs works out well, so I'll try Chrome on that one day. I can't say whether I'll like it or not yet. Especially since Intel and Ubuntu also offer their own netbook operating systems that are supposedly pretty awesome. It's also good to see Google using Linux as the kernel. If nothing else, Google's advertising and brand name strength should at least open people up to the existence of alternate operating systems, so Apple and Ubuntu should see extra uptake from this effort.
  6. New Zealand also comes highly recommended. Although it's like the Eastern Europe of Oceania. Or perhaps more like the Portugal of Oceania. How many mods have I ticked off so far? I count at least two. Anyway in both Aus and NZ, exchange rates are favourable for Europeans atm, and air fares will probably never be this cheap again. Same applies to prices across the tourism industry in general. If Britain and Ireland can be part of Europe I don't see why we can't!
  7. http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showuser=25107 Is this user some kind of elaborate marketing tactic? A poor kid with a comp full of spyware? A 4chan troll? A bot with very sophisticated AI? I can't new york asian escort decide! Help me. Edit: Aww, they deleted all but one of his posts.
  8. AP is doing it properly (compare a Torment romance to a BG 2 romance) and so I have no problem with it, and it's also the Obsidian way to do romances in general: hint at them all you like (e.g. flirting, perhaps random sex, etc), all while avoiding them completely. You could say Obsidian has commitment issues.
  9. Not sure if you're thinking of a different game (Guild Wars?) but CoH has a monthly fee and Champions Online will too. ****, I just lost interest in this game. SAD PANDA. Edit: Oh well, I'll just go buy Guild Wars. It looks fun and is still supported. honestly, if you're buying games quite a bit, and then get into an MMO you'll find you've started saving money because rather than buy 1 60 buck game a month, you're only paying the 15 bucks for the subscription and then maybe getting a game every other month (or at three month intervals). Nah. I'm sorry but that just doesn't really make sense. There's valid reasons to play MMOs (if you're a rich enough bastard) but replacing existing games isn't one of them. The main attraction of Diablo 2 was pretty much what Hurlshot said, and it'd be the main reason I'd play an MMO. I'd certainly still buy other games. It sort of comes down to art again. Something like an MMO isn't really 'art' to me, it's just mindless fun. But something like Planescape: Torment or perhaps Beyond Good & Evil 2 (when it comes out) is far closer to art and something that satisfies me on a higher and deeper level. I wouldn't suddenyl forsake that just because I'm subscribed to an MMO. You also can't own an MMO, or replay an MMO 10 years later. So instead of buying the game you're really just renting it.

  11. I hope it's Grim Fandango or Jedi Knight.
  12. I haven't played the game (CoH), but I've heard good things about it's playability and ability to captivate. I guess it's similar one of those things where you get people swearing Diablo 2 was a shell of game - obviously YMMV. And unlike other MMOs, except arguably D2/D3, CoH and Champions are pay-once, not pay per month, which is a massive selling point for me (assuming the game itself holds up to expectations).

"Another shift"? There hasn't been any shift that I'm aware of. There's this big myth that PC gaming is dying because console gaming is growing. In fact, they're both growing - rapidly. It's not a zero-sum game. Gamers are also some of Microsoft's strongest early adopters. Compare Valve stats to Net Apps states: 33% of gamers have Vista vs 25% of general users. The problem with Vista isn't that gamers avoided it - it's that everyone avoided it. I don't think that game developers are going to suddenly switch to consoles just because gamers don't adopt Windows 7 rapidly. It wouldn't exactly make sense since consoles are even less powerful than PCs, and another generation (that would take advantage of improvements in OpenGL 3.1 and DirectX 11) isn't due out for years to come. I actually wasn't contradicting you - you were right. I was largely just pointing out that while certainly better than Vista, Windows 7 isn't all sunshine and lollipops and that people migrating from XP to Windows 7 will experience similar difficulty to those that migrated from XP to Vista. Windows 7 is 2 operating systems divorced from Windows XP.

Except that it still has a lot of the same problems as Vista for people moving from XP... and just recently two of my friends in my game design course who love Vista (god only knows why) tried Windows 7 and then uninstalled it a week later. Now I don't think Microsoft is getting complacent with Win 7, but I think the media world is. Which could result in a backlash for Microsoft similar to Vista. One year is ridiculous. Windows 7 adoption won't even be at 20% by then. Two years is slightly more believable, but the notion that all developers will be willing to switch to DX11 only-games once Windows 7 comes out is rather faith-based. I know for a fact Blizzard for example will continue to support DX9 (or rather, Windows XP) for ages to come. And considering that publishers like EA are placing a lot more emphasis on Mac OS X these days (and that developers like iD, Epic, and Blizzard always have) and hence OpenGL, I think the future of Windows 7 only games is rather murky. Oh, and Valve - like Blizzard, they pride themselves on their support for the largest number of gamers possible. Can't see them going DX11-only any time soon. Anyway, it's not like OpenGL stood still while Microsoft innovated, after all. For reference, people said the same thing about DX10 and Vista. It didn't happen. Take a look at what Valve sees on Steam. It's a pretty interesting snapshot of all gamers: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/
  16. I really doubt that Obsidian would make the assumption of "All PC Gamers pirate" especially considering that many, if not most of them started out on the PC. All of the versions are essentially the same. Same engine, same story. The only difference would be graphics and controls. That's no reason not to include some bonus items. I somehow just can't bring myself to consider downloading the Bonus Content as violating copyright, but I guess I can see how it technically would be. It won't stop me though downloading it, though. Anyway, that doesn't justify it being omitted from the PC CE. In fact that would be ridiculous. I'll still buy a CE if I can, though.

Stick with XP. Especially because of your games. Games won't stop supporting XP for a long time to come. Take a look - desktop operating system market share - as of June 2009 (actually, the June Net Apps figures are wonky apparently, so I'll round slightly from May based on trend): Windows XP - 60% Windows Vista - 25% Mac OS X - 10% Linux - 1% Windows 7 - 1% So as you can see, XP still occupies about 70% of the Windows market, and probably will continue to hold majority share for a long time. It's not something publishers can afford to ignore. Windows 7 will be probably be 'half-price' again in a year anyway, because it's starting to look less successful than the hope and hype suggested (though still outdoing Vista, which isn't hard). Just give it a wait and see.
  19. I agree with most of the other people in this thread: that box art is mediocre at best. I'm not sure I know how to improve it, but then that's what your marketing guys are paid to do. Gorth seems especially insightful on this issue.

I stumbled across this game on Kotaku and since there was a demo available I figured "why not?". After all, the comments were all pretty positive. http://trine.gamesplanet.com/trine-game-nobilis.html It's a really fun 3D sidescroller (i.e. you only play across one 2D cross-section, but the graphics are in 3D) with realistic physics, fun characters (you use 3 like Lost Vikings), nice humour, a seemingly intricate storyline, and fun platforming puzzles. Here's a pretty comprehensive review of the game: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/trine-hands-on If you like sidescrollers or platformers I highly recommend it. Even if you don't, it's really worth trying (after all, a test is as free as your bandwidth is). I wish more companies made demos these days as that's how I discover half my games. Or it's how I used to discover them. This is the first game with a demo I've seen in a long time.
  21. I heard October but i'm happy eitheway as long as i get to play it this year Same. There's been a paucity of RPGs this year.

  23. Just as I suspected. So you just read that news item and took it as gospel - your certainty isn't born from an intimate knowledge of the US Constitution, but from a possibility raised by your fave news site. Lemme guess... Slashdot? I guess it was too much to ask that you had, for once, shown some hint of independent thought. A quick note. The people who wrote that (obviously better acquainted with US Constitutional law than you) were cautious enough to leave the door open to the possibility that judges and courts may not agree with their interpretation. Never one to disappoint, you, once again show that you have as much sense as you do humility. Sigh. The EFF makes it pretty clear that those excessive damages are unconstitutional. The only doubt is whether or not the Supreme Court will overrule those damages, not whether or not they are constitutional. Thanks for the ad hominem. Style over substance, Krezzy? How predictable. The thing is, I have reworded that argument at least twice and explained the reasons behind the retard allusion (if, after reading the FAQ, people still don't know they are getting the files from other private computers, one can only question their intelligence). But you'd much rather ignore that and attack my lack of PC... because, unless they do the work for you at Slashdot, you have nothing to work with. You've had it explained to you by at least 3 different people in this thread why it's not 'stupidity' or 'retardedness' to not understand how computers work yet you persist on that point. You're a pretty arrogant person. You've also brought up Slashdot twice, yet I've not mentioned it or linked to it once. How about you quit attacking me personally and not post in this thread if you have no actual input of substance.
