  1. I wonder if the Amnesia series inspired their decision with regards to the naming scheme for a spiritual series. There you have three games based around the struggles of a person with amnesia trying to recover their memory while avoiding the problems they created during the time they've forgotten.
  2. They made an entirely separate thread for the Steam discussion, IN THIS SUB-FORUM. Go THERE if you want to talk about Steam! Deadalic Entertainment reveals new game: The Night of the Rabbit
  3. Oh for the love of... *grabs a shovel and start burying the dead horse, which got so bloated it filled up the last thread* So, in NEWS: Legend of Grimrock sequel in the works The developers were planning to make some DLC for the first game, but came to the conclusion that it was both too limiting and too strange to just tag it onto a completed game. So all the resources developed for the the DLC have now been claimed for the sequel.
  4. In actual videa game news... Kojima would be willing to make more Metal Gear spin-offs
  5. No native support, cloud support possible
  6. First quarter 2012, EA sales: Xbox 360: $292 million PS3: $267 million PC: $276 million There have been other results from other companies in various genres, all showing the same thing: PCs, given the chance, can generally sell about the same as a console. It is not the dominant force it once was, true, but it is. Not. DEAD. --- A console sits with a TV, and is obvious to see. Many games emphasize co-op, so it's not uncommon for people to discuss it with others because they can sit next to each other and play. Consoles have widened their markets to target people outside of the old definition of core gaming markets. Consoles are often perceived as immature but mainstream entertainment, so there is little stigma. A gaming computer can be mistaken for a regular computer and is generally not obvious to see. With LAN games being replaced by internet multiplayer, it's less likely to be discussed openly. PCs have maintained a similar market, so they have not grown as much as consoles did. PC games are often perceived as nerdy and pretentious with a hint of living-in-basement, so there is some stigma to mentioning it.
  7. Human interest story: Newtown residents open free arcade to give families a stress-free place to relax
  8. *prepares to be pelted with rotten fruit* Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC detailed Final single-player DLC for the game, roughly a year after the launch. This may be trying to carry over more of the consequences from previous games so players can get a bit more closure. It's also good to know that, even with the fate of the galaxy on the line, Shepard still has time to decorate both his personal quarters and an apartment.
  9. Omega Exploration-based platformer with some very nice artwork. Might be interesting - it reminds me a bit of Ecco. It never caught the eyes of the staff or early-funders, so it's rather difficult to locate.
  10. The fact that you're willing to restart after losing all that work tells me that you find it a game well worth playing. For me, still playing the original Dead Space on and off. Not finding much time for it, and every time I do start up I need to kill at least three Necromorphs before I stop jumping at every sound and settle into the gameplay.
  11. Banner Saga: Factions released to backers, non-backers wait a week
  12. Wait, I... but that... what? You got what amounts to an early-bird special; unless they're an extremely shady company, they're not going to abruptly cancel the pre-order, having already collected the money, and demand you donate on Kickstarter to get the same reward. You got a better deal than those on Kickstarter will; live with the shame of being an early funder with extra perks. Live with it.
  13. But they are putting up recent titles that didn't make it to Steam - Mass Effect 3, Crysis 3, Dead Space 3... lots of 3s the last two years...
  14. Sounds like even more of a tangled mess than I thought. In any case, gonna try and clean up the mess I made with a different topic: Trailer released/leaked for Murdered: Soul Suspect Short and nothing in-game, but it does confirm the suspicion that the detective you play is trying to solve his own murder. The comment that he's after a "freak" makes me wonder if there's going to be more supernatural overtones to this than just a dead protagonist.
  15. Would that it had remained so. The story of how the game was made is scarier than the game itself. --- Anodyne makes money thanks to people pirating the game Rather than whining about the game being pirated, they held a 72-hour promotional sale in response. The promo broke sales out of a slump, raking in an additional $24,000. If it's anything like Steam sales, they'll probably continue to see increased purchases for a while, even at the regular price.
  16. Competition is a good thing in any service. Steam has enjoyed a near-monopoly of digital distribution to this point; hopefully having other big-name publishers becoming viable alternatives will force them all to develop better practices to lure customers to their own service. EA and Uplay are the publishers with enough content and money to host their own distribution systems, so it's logical they'd be the next ones to jump to this level. It wouldn't surprise me if Squeenix follows eventually. Anyway, I don't know what the exact details of their client verification system crossovers are. Hopefully their deal will allow each publisher to act as the sole client for the other publisher; otherwise, we may end up buying via Origin and then installing Uplay to verify anyway.
  17. Mage's Initiation An Adventure/RPG inspired by the golden years of Sierra's adventure games. The game is apparently well into production, so there's a lot of material to look at. Most impressive about their post is a concise breakdown on what the money they're asking for will be used for; it seems like they have a fairly good idea of what they're getting into.
  18. Ubisoft, EA, and others teaming up to challenge Steam's dominance Uplay and Origin will apparently now be selling games from both major publishers, while Uplay is also opening the door to a wide range of other publishers. It looks like EA and Ubi are making a concerted effort to get a bigger piece of the digital distribution pie.
  19. Destiny info leaks yet again After a large leak back in November revealed the basic premise and setting of Bungie's new game, Destiny, it was scheduled for an official unveiling on Feb. 17... only for somebody, likely employees at gameshops, to leak photos of promotional pre-order materials two days early. Honestly, it's not revealing too much, aside from some nice artwork, a repeat of the premise, and mentions of what sounds like Halo's multiplayer system.
  20. Apparently this game is getting made due to Minecraft. To clarify, one of the quotes that can appear on the Minecraft title screen referenced the series, and one of the developers ended up calling Notch about it. One thing led to another, and Notch's Minecraft money ended up backing AoW3.
  21. Wait... why's Colin Mockery doing his raptor-walk in a xenomorph costume? --- Dead Space's creator calls the increase in action elements a necessary evil And the commentors completely ignore his comments in favor of bashing EA.
  22. GPG doesn't agree; Taylor pulled the plug after they passed the half-million dollar mark. They're apparently focusing their remaining resources on courting publishers in hope of finding a good backer.
  23. A round of updates from Kickstarter: --- GPG has pulled the plug on Wildman and are seeking any remaining options for keeping the company viable. --- Much more optimistically: Unwritten is just $6,000 from being Kickstarted Imagine King of Dragon Pass 2.0; a rogue-like, strategy-like, story-telling game Pretty massive surge in the last few days; roughly 10% of their target every day for the past four days. Nine hours to go; hopefully it has the momentum needed to reach the finish line. --- Cryamore is $10,000 from Linux support An ode to classics like Zelda, Metroid, and more They decided to bump Linux support down to a lower level, so it'll easily be reached either before or during the last-minute surge. They also claim there's some interest from the main consoles in getting the game, but they're not dropping support for them to a lower tier. --- At The Gates funded in the first week A Civ clone with an emphasis on logistics, where you play as the Barbarians conquering Rome The initial surge wore off quickly, but their initial target was low enough that they already made their target. It wouldn't surprise me if they reached their modding stretch goals with ease. --- Dreamfall heading for its target with ease The third installment in the series. They're at slightly over 80% of their initial goal in less than a week.
