  1. A few details off the top of my head: The aim is somewhere between the new XCOM and a digital version of the boardgame. They do not want this to be an FPS. Asynchronous MP will exist; some abilities, like rolling back the enemy's movement, will not work there. Synchronous MP is possible, but still a ways off. Expect to die 3 out of every 4 runs, if not more. PC is primary platform, with any ports produced being downscaled from the PC version. Cross-platform play is an aim.
  2. EA lives in a reality where the economy is down, the industry is struggling, and the traditional retail system is under siege by digital distribution. Big publishers collapse or report large losses, indie games are front-page news rather than back-shelf tripe, and games can be funded not by publishers, but by the will and support of thousands of people who will never meet the developers face-to-face. EA lives in a reality where big-name publishers need to adapt or die, but nobody knows what sort of change is needed to survive. So, like a noob in Minecraft, they stumble around blindly, changing patterns in blocks and slots in hopes something will click and show them the way before the next Creeper appears. They're changing their payment models to find what makes them money and what doesn't, offering new incentives, creating their own digital distribution system and even allowing sales on it despite initially claiming they never would. They lean heavily on established franchises because new ones are risky, and risk when you're struggling to survive can be deadly. EA lives in a reality where the entire industry is speculated to be on the edge of collapse and the vocal fans seem to scream for its collapse. Truly, theirs is a grim reality... Oh, wait...
  3. Speaking of WH40K: Details emerge on Space Hulk turn-based tactical game
  4. So far as I know, no exact details have been released at the moment. We may find out sooner, but I'd imagine we'll get the main info-dump when the Kickstarter goes live.
  5. Indeed, it's not an ideal solution, but it's the nature of being an independent game studio. Attempting to launch two dream-project Kickstarters back-to-back is pretty ambitious and may scare some people, so hopefully they explain it well or funding could take a hit from the "you already Kickstarted" crowd. This is one of the projects where hearing more in-depth details about the studio's challenges will probably help. Personally, I hope it's either a smashing hit or a failure. If they get a middling success due to skepticism, it'll limit their available budget, whereas a failure will let them return later and leverage the results of WL2 for another chance at a big return. PS: I just realized that Kickstarter made me learn more about the game industry than anything else. I'm quite relieved I skipped on my childhood dream of being a game designer and went with engineering instead.
  6. P:E is their PC baby; to keep the outside jobs rolling in, they need to broaden their horizons a bit, as more platforms means more sales and more funding.
  7. No, they took opinions on possible rewards and tiers and assembled that list. When the campaign does go live, those will be the base rewards and add-ons.
  8. That's largely a joke regarding Alan's interest after seeing the trailer. --- Creators of the Game of Throne RPG and Of Orcs and Men are at it again - Announce Bound By Fire Honestly not sure what to think of it. At least the Light/Dark Side mechanic has a somewhat more interesting story than usual. Ouya shipping to backers on March 28 Almost time to see how it does in the real world. Torment: Tides of Numenara pledge tiers hashed out Lowest tier is $25 for the game and manual. Interestingly, there's mention of the "Tides" left by past characters for the future, so the name may have more meaning than I thought.
  9. Well, not backing to the level required, but something caught my eye on the $5,000 tier: "Tides represented by this monument" is what caught my eye. I guess there's a bit more of a story to the name than it might have seemed. --- Cloth maps are most likely mass-produced based off a digital design. The digital copy will have all the art and character of the physical copy, without the wear and tear or the additional cost of a physical good to ship. And if you're going to claim it's not worth the extra $15, keep in mind that's just the additional final reward, and everyone values such things differently.
  10. If it's anything like 3, there will six editions with three or more "exclusives" randomly distributed amongst them. --- Capcom to announce two new titles at PAX East
  11. Grump's Quest Reminds me a bit of the Golem pitch in that they seem to be leveraging art before detailing the actual gameplay. Fathom Steampunk Ecco?
  12. The fact of the matter is that they don't need many people willing to use the service for it to be worth the investment of development time. Most F2P games have a large player base, but only a small core of users who actually make purchases... but their purchases are in large volume. If the same holds true in EA's other games, they can still make money off it. This is also a major factor in why a lot of games are pushed to have multiplayer. It's a bigger P2W cash-cow than single-player and a good multi-player will keep players engaged and paying longer.
  13. Considering how much vitriol this game has managed to inspire in gamers just by existing as a title and a handful of pre-pre-production interviews, I can only imagine any actual material shown for Kickstarter will ignite riots, and the actual game will result in the collapse of the entire industry.
  14. The actual comment: "Well, the game is in development and I guess that some teams will have a look at the game, but for sure we’ve just acquired the development of the game, so we’re going to work with the development studio on that and the plan is to publish the game." So at most, the other studios will likely review it for any flaws or potential improvements, but it'll stay with Obsidian. Considering Ubi went into this deal blind on any issues with the game, it's not too odd they'd want to test the game before publishing it. Obsidian's history of bugs may result in slightly more intense reviews. As for Prom's comments about the release date getting pushed back, those are predictions made by a third-party retailer to pump or pre-orders; until the publisher announces a release date, that's just smoke and mirrors.
  15. Remember Me releasing June 4/7 in NA/EU This one's kinda just sunk to the back of my mind.
  16. Final IPs from THQ set for Auction April 1st to 15th The fate of Homeworld and others will be decided then.
  17. Please, do NOT turn this into another pro/anti-Steam discussion: Fifth Greenlight batch announced by Steam
  18. Projects get delayed for any number of reasons, much like any normal game studio. The difference here is that the release date set on their KS is seen as a promise to the funder, despite it only being an estimate. RPS did an article looking at how $100k+ successes on Kickstarter were doing with regards to release dates. Their biggest criticism was developers who didn't give themselves enough time to develop a game once the KS ended. Problems during development only compound the issue.
  19. And the moment you figure it out, you'll laugh happily and refuse to admit which puzzle it was if anyone asks, because in hindsight it will look ridiculously simple. That was a game where I didn't mind beating my head against the wall for a while, though getting the timing right on some of the speed runs did get a bit tedious. Friggin' Couch Surfing...
  20. A short playthough of Mew-Genics helps to describe gameplay facets To me, it sounds like the unholy off-spring of Viva Pinata, Pokemon, and the Black and White Creature system. Everyone else has their own comparisons to make to it, which is one of the comments the devs make: It's unique enough, it's hard to accurately compare it.
  21. Just launched: XING: The Land Beyond First-person puzzle game, looks like it's fairly well-developed at this point. The sticking point for me is that the money raised will be spent on software licenses and... attending game covnentions? --- About to close out: Cryamore Last day if you want in (yes, I'm still pimping for this). They've hit stretch goals for Linux, Ouya, Android, and iOS support; the last goal is for the main consoles, and could realistically be hit before the final hour hits. --- In post-project news: Kickstarted documentary wins an Oscar!
  22. Until Ubisoft announces it, no; any release date until an actual announcement is made will be an estimate.
  23. The fact that you know more about the Reapers' origin doesn't change much about the fact that there's still a massive fleet of them invading. That's one of the things that made me snicker every time I read somebody with a high military score saying they should have been able to refuse the options and just win with their awesome military. With everything you scraped together, you're barely getting the advantage in the battle over ONE PLANET. Every other homeworld in the galaxy has just as many Reapers there, if not more, and there are even more wandering around the galaxy to pick off stragglers. The Reapers are a literally unstoppable armada; anybody who really thought the militaries of the Citadel races, which had purposefully crippled themselves, could stop the Reapers were smoking something. Which is kinda why Bioware had a problem; they wrote themselves into a corner there where they didn't really have any legitimate excuse for how you could wipe out an entire armada of Reapers.
