  1. Odin has his own day as well, although its hard to gather when you hear it in English, "Wednesday". ("Onsdag" in Danish) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought most of them were named after Norse figures? And the months named after the Roman pantheon.
  2. No hard feelings Shinto is another one I'm quite fond of.
  3. You really should stop editing things after the fact it makes it very difficult to follow the coherence of the thread. CoE are big on baptism and thats about as far from catholosism as you can get since Henry besically told the pope to shove it and made his own state relgion. But you have contradiced the concept of orginal sin. If they are not judged as sinners, then original sin is a worthless concept is it not ?
  4. I'm celtic but I'd still have a beer with Odin.
  5. Seems to be a lot of love, or at least respect for Odin around here dosnt there.
  6. Well Steve may have done those things, but a baby is incapable of any of them. Which means if your alredy a sinner just by being born dosnt really matter what you do afterwards anyway. So your ok with a god that chucks newborns into hell because they happened to die before they could be baptised. I'm with Hades on this I'd give such a being a good kick in the jimmies.
  7. You do realise that the idea of humans hanging out with god would be akin to you hanging out with a bunch of ants for eternity... Nice to see you can pick and choose whatever interpretation suits you , just like all the other creators of their own religions. In some circles what you just said would be considered a heresy and thats a fast track trip to hell if ever there was one.
  8. That not why they came up with the original sin thing. Original sin is a way to guilt good people into joining the cult. Like you said if you have never done anything wrong then you should have nothing to fear, but that leaves a lot of people who can then blisfully ignore you. If on the other hand you convince them they were born guilty then they have no choice but to join up. This is especially true in the days of high infant mortality where people were very eager to get their kids baptised just in case they died. That still leaves the ones who are born but die before they can be "forgiven". Take a pretty heartless bastard to send those to hell wouldnt it.
  9. Or at least incapacitate everyone
  10. If Nintendo decide to sell at a loss (the cube sold at a profit) then there is nothing that MS or Sony can do to match it. Nintendo could sell the revolution for $49.99 and still lose less money than the other two selling at their actual price point. The important thing is that they get some high profile stuff out early on. And they follow that up with none of the dry spells that plagued the gamecube. But if the games designers are upto the task , then the only place you will be able to play those games desinged for the rev will be on the rev. You wont even be able to emulate since the controller is integrel to the system itself. Which makes me wonder about things like third party controllers and piracy in general..
  11. I'm not, not only is it a logical fallacy it's also dangerous since you could just lock everyone up from birth. Or go the Dark Judge route and kill everyone since they are all guilty. If god punishes sin with death then why are the prisons bursting with all manner of criminals ? Why dont people keel over after commiting a crime ? Do wonders for the crime figures wouldnt it. Want to hear a fun anology :D christians are people who live in their parents basement and bother them every time they have a problem.
  12. One of my favourites that :D Heaven and Hell is just a ripoff of Hades and Eulysium. Gods suprisingly similiar to Zeus in how he's portrayed and with the whole tossing of lightning thing. Zeus can be traced back to an earlier religion too, although the name of the culture dosnt come to mind at the moment. Religions that were created in isolation bear little resemblence to each other (even if the source is the same such as ancestor worship). The only reason that christianity jadaism and islam do ,is that christianity and islam basically nicked the main character from someone elses book and wrote it in a way that made them happy. This took less effort and gave the religion more credence (just like using a brand name) than starting from scratch. Then they proceeded to kill anyone who didnt agree, since a healthy dose of fear does wonders for spreading your message.
  13. Science is superior since it offers tangible benifits to a wider audience. In the context of 7000 ish years the bible is probably quite believable, in the context of the true age of the earth it's not. Symbolism is an excuse used when reality starts to contradict your "evidence" if part of it is symbolic, then why not the whole lot. Which leaves you with making up your own religion or following one that was created by another man and not a god at all.
  14. May as well, it's what Humans have been doing since prehistory.
  15. nice one Hades now I have to clean tea off the screen.
  16. But you have nothing to back that up. There is no evidence for that except for the smaller areas, which were really not that small anyway (compared to say Fable). Can we say ancient history. GTA wasnt even in 3d. Ah so it's envy Depends on what PC it's created for. On a PC which cost the same as a PS2 or an Xbox , not in a million years.
  17. A couple of things. What stopped third party and cross platform was the space issue. The mini disks didnt have anywhere near the capacity of a regular old DvD. Now without HD DvD will probably just about do it for the next gen. Thats why I'm less concerned about DvD on the rev than on the 360. It also makes cross platforming that much easier. Just because the TV remote is central to the revolutions own games, your still going to be able to use a regular pad for third party. But after experiencing the revolution controller, well you may not want to
  18. But unlike the other two the GC hardware sold at profit. Numbers wise the GC isnt far behind the Xbox.
  19. He obviously thought differently. Notice he's not saying he's dumbing down the game because it's on the Xbox. All your doing is looking for a scapegoat because you just cant accept the reality which is the designers just did something different. You will find console RPGs on the PS2 which make the original DX look like simplicity itself. The idea that console gamers somehow cant cope with number crunching is ridiculous given the evidence.
  20. Spot the functionalist.
  21. I've seen a couple on the list but I only watch it if I happen to be board and it's on.
  22. More like a revised version. Actually the Revan in KOTOR is pretty much a fake identity to make the game playable. Thats why it makes me laugh when people say the KOTOR II revan was nothing like theirs. Thats why once he gets all his memories back he buggers off. Dosnt need a pupetmaster anymore.
  23. If anyone knows how old does the bible say the Earth is ?
  24. Can't say I have. I know what sort of character Bender is though so imagine it's pretty funny.
  25. Oh well you can blame me I guess Any chance you can take the micro back ? Swap it for a DS ? 'Cause unless you have some aversion to carrying a DS around (or if your Micro is famicom version) there isnt much point having both.
