But how would you keep them in there for the long time? You would have to close the exits once they enter, all enemies would have to be at the same difficulty since you can never leave, it would get more difficult to motivate players because they would not be able to take much loot with them anyway... its unpractical. Not a challenge, but tedious.

Not having been there I can't really say anything about that. I guess he women at Obsidian should have the final word about a Green Shirt Girl Easteregg then, seeing as they are the ones who know how much they would have been annoyed by the remarks. (Knowing the internet and gamers I am aware that their opinions about "it was a joke" differ from other people's, especially women)

Project Eternity: Wiki
Chabneruk replied to Tigranes's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The Wiki Rule :D But it seems only appropriate that a fanbase this dedicated would start one. I am going to read it quite often, I guess -
As soon as the female employees of Obsidian were visible in the webcam, the chat exploded with sexist remarks. "Green Shirt" was apparently the favorite of most male virgins. But Obsidian handled it well and everyone seemed to have fun nevertheless. I see. And that is something you want to be remembered of in the game? I mean, its great that it didn't completely escalated, but I personally wouldn't celebrate sexist remarks, whatever the reaction to them was...

So... it is peoples choice now? Why don't give them exits then? It is their choice whether they use it or not, right? You are still argueing for a "right" kind of gaming. And it is still a subjective thing. What if someone has fun lootgrabbing? What if someone likes to save often? This is neither right nor wrong, its another style of playing. But there is one thing wrong here: You, when you think "I am right" is a natural way of thinking. It is - for people without self reflection. Calling others stupid and wrong just because they don't agree with them is either trolling or thickheadedness. I think you made your point for a complete crawl, others made theirs. You can stop acting as if you knew it all now.

To say "it could become tedious because it has 15 levels" is the same as to say "the outdoor areas could become tedious as there are 15+ of them". A dungeon can have many forms - and not all of them are caves/prisons. Lorfean has put up a nice list, for example. There should be a theme that connects them, though. For example: "archaeological expedition in old nua tries to get deeper and you help them." Which would be a pretty standard theme, but I'm sure the guys at Obsidian will come up with something!

Well, I don't find your arguments convincing either, Piccolo. But at least I don't tell you that you are wrong or that games do it "wrong". I simply think you prefer a different approach to games and that is quite well. What bugs me is that you seem to think it is the only "right" approach. Because it isn't. Its subjective. Edit: Nice profile Pic, Jotra :D

Chris Avellone playing Arcanum
Chabneruk replied to Starker's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I wonder whether he will play through just the main quests... or go for the whole package, including all sidequests, shrines to the old gods and the likes. That might take a while :D -
You are not telling us that Diablo is one of the "new games" that are too easy, are you? And as I recall, BG and Icewind Dale also used the "3 levels, one shortcut"-approach. Your argument is: "Games get too easy." I agree, there are a lot of very easy games out there, for casual gamers. And there should at least be features in PE to avoid that if you want. Thus: additional difficulty modes. But I do not see shortcuts and "Game gets too easy" in the same category. You can have a hard game with Diablo-Style-Shortcuts. You can have an easy game without.

My personal favorite is still the Transcendent One from Planescape Torment. But he only worked well, because the whole game was a deeply philosophical journey into the depts of the human soul. His true nature was the most interesting solution of the "BigBad"-Dilemma I have ever seen. And when I got the "good" ending on my second playthrough it felt complete and utterly satisfying. If PE can combine the sense of exploration and fantasy of BG with the unique approach of Planescape, we will have a villain to fear. Because the game defines the villain.

I LOVE ALL OF YOU

PayPal numbers (about 140k) will be added and count, we cracked the 4 million last night and it was celebrated. I see! All the more reason to be happy So far, I only read the updates. But then, after today, I kinda wanted to join the forums as well. Too bad I didn't do it earlier. I would have become a member of the order, i guess. -
Well, I would prefer a Diablo-like approach. Not an exit on every level, but some old and forgotten secret passages, teleporters etc. every 3-5 levels or so. They should take some mini-quest to find or activate, though. If you want to play it your way you can still choose not to use them - and leave as much loot behind as you wish But seriously, the "only-my-way-is-the-true-and-hardcore-way"-approach? I don't think you'll get it. There are a lot of players out there who supported PE and want to play the eternal dungeon. You should not judge them if they don't like your personal dream of a 14-level-in-a-row-dungeon. edit: And I totally support Potemkins idea of the dungeon getting harder. Maybe it should even have Minibosses, after which you need to play the rest of the game for a while because the enemies become far too difficult after them.

It was a great run. Kept me on the edge. Too bad we missed the 4.000.000. Is there a statement by the developers regarding "we will make it better anyway" already? :D -
I would love to meet some old, mysterious, Gandalf-styled wizard (probably clad in red) in the beginning of the game, giving some cryptic advice and then vanishing for the rest of your playthrough. Only to leave BG-players giggling and newcomers totally confused. Newcomer after meeting Melinster (name as a work in progress): "What was THAT all about?" He could then appear again in PE 2...

Which tier did you choose?
Chabneruk replied to Althernai's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The 140$ tier + 20$ for international shipping. I kinda hope that there will be another Kickstarter for the expansion - at least for a boxed version. And by then I'll know whether PE is a good game or not. So - if it is and no second KS, well, I'll just buy it in other ways. If PE disappoints (but I keep my fingers crossed that it won't) I'll simply refrain from buying the expansion. Anyway, its good news for my brother who has been a BG-fanatic for a loooong time and will get my digital version now
