  1. I like the idea of a stash and all. Just don't see why adding a stash means character inventory gets thrown in the garbage. Would prefer both.
  2. Me, I'd be happy with a release that allows me to more reliably load save games, and squashes some of the more prominent known bugs. I just don't have enough time to get through the entire beta in a single sitting. I'd happy wait for the next release for the attribute changes. It seemed like they were still spitballing on this as of last Friday. I'd rather see Josh and team finalize what they want, and release that when it's really ready for release. Just my two copper. Of course, this seems to be one of those weeks where OE isn't "in the mood" to talk about releases, so we'll either get a nice surprise, or nothing.
  3. This definitely shouldn't be a mod. Should be the standard configuration.
  4. 56 votes so far and still no love for the ranger. Ouch.
  5. I wouldn't expect them to have the attribute changes in so quickly. Not sure they've had sufficient time to implement and properly unit test yet, much less push to the official build. But otherwise I agree that we wouldn't want something that's rushed with lots of regressions. But I'm hopeful that they can keep to their preferred schedule of a release every 1 - 2 weeks without having to rush anything.
  6. I was thinking of 5 barbarians except swap Resolve for Might so they don't get interrupted. The 6th would be a rogue to deal out the damage while the barbarians interrupted all of the incoming damage. That sounds truly painful. 4 hour battles all around!
  7. Now that's some serious nostalgia talking.
  8. That's a nice synopsis. At this point I do feel that a priest is largely essential. Your party is very similar to my most recently proposed party. I too have excluded the usually indispensable wizard and rogue. Cipher can basically take over for the wizard. Chanter can take over for the rogue, and do a whole lot more. Like you, I like the idea of having 3 "tanks" though I proposed a single fighter, a pally and a barbarian for that front line. A second fighter to replace the barbarian could certainly work too. And the priest, because I don't really think you want to go without a healer.
  9. An expansion in the "old school" sense of the word is likely to contain as much content as 4 or 5 DLCs in today's world, or in other words, perhaps all the DLC that gets released for a game these days might have all been bundled into a single expansion pack. You would usually have several significant new quests, perhaps a new class/race, lots of new items, enemies, and monsters in an expansion. DLCs tend to give you new weapons in one DLC, new armors in another, and a new quest in yet another. They are small bites, rather than a full meal.
  10. The attorney sure sounds like a fun class! - NOT! In general, the quality of my day seems to be inversely proportional to the number of attorneys I'm dealing with. I sure as hell don't need them in my gaming environment.
  11. Oops. I went ahead and put my information into spoilers, so it would take up less screen real-estate. What a bizarre class progression. I wonder what happened when you hit level 9 as a fighter? Would you just stop gaining experience, while your wizard and druid buddies went on to become gods?
  12. Thanks for posting that. Trying to make slightly easier to read:
  13. 1st edition had a separate name for each level, vs. level 1, 2, 3, etc? I didn't know that. Odd. Even if so, the progression seems random. Why is a conjurer (level 3 ) better than an evoker (level 2 ), or an enchanter (level 8 ) better than a magician (level 7). Most of these concepts simply represent different schools of magic that are generally considered equal.
  14. I'm mostly interested in "old school" expansion packs, but I'm not opposed to an occasional DLC if it's high quality and well-worth the price being charged. It would depend on what it included.
  15. I'm wondering what the inspiration behind the forum titles were. It seems to be a random list of different names for mages, with no particular sense of progression. I just went from a magician to an enchanter when I made my 800th post. I think I was a theurgist or something prior to that. I've seen someone with a much higher post count than me who was a "Mage" (mage/magician are effectively the same thing, aren't they?) It doesn't seem particularly inspired. Perhaps with the release of PoE these could be changed to something that reflects that world? Perhaps increasing military ranks for one of the world's great armies, or something similar? Just some idle musings here.
  16. That's why I'm asking the question. Would like to hear a peep, one way or the other.
  17. My first character will be a class not already represented by one of the 8 companions. I think that covers fighter, rogue, chanter, cipher, paladin, priest, ranger and wizard? So that leaves me with Barbarian, Druid, and Monk? Hmm... tough choice. Would probably pick barbarian or druid out of those.
  18. I'm not totally sure, but I think one view is counted per person. There also seems to be a delay in when the new views are displayed. Either when a new person posts in a thread and/or at some fixed interval. I believe guests and registered users are both counted. As to how guests are differentiated, I'm not totally sure, but I assume their IP address is a key factor.
  19. Bonus spells! I didn't even know that I missed them until just now. The game should totally implement bonus spells for having a high score in a relevant attribute. That was a great feature of D&D.
  20. I always loved Baldur's Gate 2 Chapters 2 and 3 immensely. And found chapters 4 - 7 (or however many there were) to be far less interesting. Why? 2 - 3 were so open ended. You could play them a million different ways. I generally always tried to complete every quest possible before going to Spellhold. From that point forward, the game became very linear, and that extended into the expansion. Due to the story, it made sense, since you were literally fighting from your life from that point forward. That said, I can sort of see Josh's point. It would probably be better to have few side quests in a single area, and make it so there is a fair amount of exploration possible during the later stages of the game as well -- of course, as long as the game isn't giving you this take care of the main quest right away or the world is going to explode sort of pressure. If the game is going to give you things to explore, it should make sense in the context of the narrative that you would be willing to take that time.
  21. Obsidian has mentioned its intent to release a new version every week or two. As of Wednesday 09/17 (two days) it will be two weeks since v278 was made public. So, can we expect a new release this week? Inquiring minds want to know.
  22. I have played the WL2 beta for many hours, and completed it a couple of times. Even in beta, it has the makings of a truly excellent game. I'm enjoying exploring the world and looking at the visuals. I'm enjoying combat, and the party mechanics are first rate. I'm enjoying the story and the amazing level of immersion. With every new release the game has taken huge leaps forward in in quality and content. I can't wait for the final release, which is this Friday if I'm not mistaken. I may need to arrange a long weekend for myself. I'm sure I'm going to be playing/replaying this one for many, many years to come.
